Do any of you purchase things for convenience for a specific child. 3 month old that takes a pacifier but his mom (first time mom) purchased a one that is too big for him and he can not keep it in his mouth on his own. She also has 4oz bottles but he takes 5oz to 6oz, so I have to use 2 bottles per feeding.
I have told her about the pacifier and the bottles but she has yet to bring them.

I am thinking about buying bigger bottles and the right size pacifier for him to have while he is here. Am I crazy.

Are there any convenience items that you all purchase that are just for you but parents should probably bring?

I replaced a pacifier when I accidentally dropped the other one into the toilet.
I buy my own wipes because I don't like the generic brand ones.
I buy my own sunscreen if the parents don't provide the spray on type I prefer.

I have purchased my own pacifiers and bottles, mainly because if I lose them, or they get damaged I don't have to worry about replacing it. Or if they forget it at home, I have one already here.

1.
Either insist the parent brings what you need to care of the child or refuse service.

Or 2.
Buy what is needed and add the cost (plus an inconvenience fee) to the next payment due from the parent.

Or 3.
Make it part of your business to supply everything, but charge for the convenience.

I love it so much! At the park I can reapply so easily and not end up with hands that are coated in sand and cream.

I request it every year but I still have a few parents who end up bringing me some Coppertone baby cream or something. I usually just use that for initial applications and then bring a spray with me to the park.

I ask parents for supplies n they bring in bag fills of useless things. I have an itemized list for them to follow but they bring extra stuff they think kids need. Instead of having a debate over the need for each item I just store away.
I do end up supplying sippy cups, bottles, pacifiers, clothing n hats n gloves. Parents love to bring in the newest cup that can tranform into a space rocket (jk) n clothing, hats n gloves that no longer fit. For a few extra dollars I rather have my own supply here n not to hound the parents for the proper supplys. Sad but convenient .

This!

If you have requested that mom bring some additional or different supplies and she has not, then INSIST that she does. It is YOUR business.....sometimes parents need to be TOLD not asked.

I don't buy anything extra.

My parents bring wet wipes, tissues, sunscreen and bug spray. I give them a list of acceptable brands and they can choose which ones to buy.

I don't make it hard....just don't bring the really crappy kind. kwim? There are some really good generic brands out there so they have lots to choose from.

Perhaps the parents don't buy the spray because of the dangers associated with that type of sunscreen. I wouldn't want spray used on my child and if I provided the sunscreen I would want what I provided to be used.

We are not allowed to use ANY spray on children in MO and specifically the sunscreen If a prent brings it I can't use it. It gets into the lungs.

I supply everything except diapers and formula. I don't have time to pick thru the pile for each specific kid. when I change a diaper I want to grab one box of wipes not 5 packages and 5 diapers to change a bum. I don't have room to carry 5 different types of sunscreen to the park. I've never heard of the spray and the lungs, I'd be more affraid of the cream stuff as the kids would lick it off because it does take a bit to dry.

The stuff I use is non-aerosol and I don't spray it onto their faces. There is no vapour to breathe in.

I would supply the stuff and use it as a tax write off.

I'm not sure if we can use the spray type or not but in CA anything that is given to or applied on the child (such as vicks, aloe vera, and sun screen- I heard even baby/boogie wipes if you supply it) the parent needs to sign a paper that says it is okay for you to use these on their child if needed

I don't understand the spray on stuff I guess-how can it be non-aerosol if its spray on?

That is why for my state-big no,no! Its even in my reg. books.

Yes, anything you supply needs to be signed off by the parents.

If it goes in the air we can not use it. Any droplet that is airborn can be inhaled. no powders of any kind either.

The only thing we can spray is the bleach sanitizer and we have to use test strips 200ppm which is less than 1/4 t per quart.

And yes anything besides soap and water has to have a parent permission. They do allow us to get a waiver to apply diaper ointment, sunscreen etc as needed But we have to do that for each child every year.

Pump spray bottles. I MUCH prefer the aerosol for me, but they do make pump sunscreen in a variety of brands.

I'd be more worried about the ingredients of a sun screen vs how it is applied or how it comes out of the container.

Sun screens (even the rub on kinds) that have chemicals in them can be super harmful as the chemicals in them can seep into the skin and be harsh and irritating to some.

I would be far more concerned with that aspect of sun screen then I would about whether it is a pump, a continuous spray or lotion application.

OH, yes! In fact someone I know who is deligent because of skin fairness, has been told that its a screen BUT not a quarentee of not developing cancer because of use. There is still as many cases of people getting cancer even after using sunscreen.

I am blonde with green eyes as are my kids (one son has blue eyes) we are very moley and fair. Both boys are lifeguards who work outside all summer. I am so worried about what may happen to them as far as sunscreen/skin cancer goes.

I really love the summer and the sun but I go outside from 8-930 and from 4-430 in the summer months because I don't want to fry any kids.

I bought a bunch of snowpants that I keep at my house. It seems I can never get every parent to bring snowpants on the same day and we were always skipping out on going outside. I bought cheap ones from our church garage sale.

I also supply all wipes. I don't like the cheap thin ones so I buy them by the case @ Sam's. Now that I only have 2 in diapers they last forever!

I dont use sunscreen. Because of neighboring houses, Our play yard is only sunny from noon to 3. Nap time. I double wipes. So if they buy cheap, it's not a worry. I supply bottles.

I keep a supply of leather Keds in every even size all the way up to a size 9. If a parent forgets to bring a child's shoes or they're way too big or small I dont want to be stuck inside all day.

I also have "loaner" DC clothes. If they take them home I add a fee to their next invoice which they must pay or "no pay, no stay". Once they bring them back they get the amount credited to their next invoice.

I also have extra bibs and burp cloths. Parents never seem to supply enough of those.

I have a 7mo that is still breast fed at home and so I bottle feed here but I think the nipple it made for infants (it's wide and breast/nipple shaped) and the nipple keeps getting sucked in. The baby also sucks down a lot of air. I was just thinking about investing in my own bottles but my cousin offered to donate her DD's Dr. Browns bottles to me (which I was thinking of buying) so that's even better. Now all I have to do is buy new nipples.

I agree. When Ds was a baby we were camping and I applied sunscreen to him and he broke out immediately! I had to give him a bath and still to this day his arms have tiny bumps on them that won't go away. They are more bothersome to me than him though. I just think he should have smooth skin and he doesn't since the sunscreen! Granted, he may have been too young but, we were going to be in the sun all day and a hat can only protect so much. live and learn.

I supply everything except diapers. Wipes, bottles, pacis, snowclothes, spare clothing, food, formula, baby food, sunscreen, etc... in fact do not bring any toys or extras to daycare.

If I can afford it, I buy it - for things like bottles, binkies, etc. I buy sunscreen, but make the parents chips in for it because we use several bottles per week.
