Ah the down and dirty fun stuff of caring for wee little ones.
I wrap a diaper in a plastic grocery bag, twist it, wrap it back over itself and twist it again, then throw it in the trash. But with 4 little ones in diapers I go through A LOT of plastic bags. I only bag the poopy ones but still...I've been asking for donations of plastic grocery bags from dcps; is that cheesy? I just cannot see buying plastic bags to wrap diapers in.
How do you all do it?

I do diaper changes all at once, unless one individual needs it at a particular time.....but when I change them, I put ALL the diapers in one plastic garbage bag, twist, tie and toss.

No need to wrap individually.

2 out of 4 of my kids in diapers use cloth so their diapers go in wet bags and go home with their family.

Asking for parents to help donate their plastic garbage bags is a good idea if you are needing a good supply. I have also bought a roll of bathroom sized garbage bags and used them too...plus they are usually scented so that's nice.

Rubber gloves! Been using them for about 5yrs now, and I cannot imagine changing a poopy diaper without them.....that barrier is nice.
When I'm done, I hold the diaper in my hand, and pull the rubber glove inside out around the diaper from one hand, and then the other, completely enclosing it. It helps keep the smell contained too!

I have one parent who keeps me supplied in all the plastic bags I can use. She saves everything for me (and I do, too): shopping bags, chip bags, the plastic wrappers clothes are shipped in, etc, etc, etc. I think it's great to ask parents to save "junk" for you to reuse. :-)

I have a diaper genie. And, I have found that I can MacGyver it to use plastic grocery bags instead of the expensive refills.

DH is home today and he just asked me in amazement "how many diapers do you change a day?". He couldn't believe the amount of poop I deal with every day.

I do what NothingWithoutJoy does. I save EVERY SINGLE BAG...food packaging bags (like chip or cookie or bread), used sandwich baggies, shipping bags, tp or paper towel packages (open carefully), anything even remotely bag-like, and my favorites-the newspaper bags. I use them all to wrap up a poopy diaper.

Then, I use one of the bigger bags to put them all in at each changing time and put it out after.

I also ask my DCFs to bring me their unwanted newspaper or grocery bags, but other than one family that aged out 2 years ago they never do.

My DH totally makes fun of my bag hoarding.

When supplies have run dangerously low, I've wondered if I could help myself to the bag recycling bins at Wal-Mart and other stores. Would that be kosher or no?

I MAY have done that very thing last weekend and I MAY have wound up for 1 useless bag filled with shredded bags (?!?) and 1 useless bag filled with cigar smoke yellowed plastic bags (?!?). Ugh. Maybe God didn't want me to do that.

My sister, that always says she's broke, keeps me supplied in plastic bags. Just when I'm getting low she seems to show up with the next month or two supply. I hardly ever shop and when I do I use reusable ones so I'm glad she's out spending money.

That's my problem, too. I'm not a shopper, and my grocery store gives me 5 cents for every reusable bag I use instead of their plastic ones.

My MIL does save all their newspaper bags for me though, and some store ones. I am quite proud of my newspaper bag stockpile and will not share them with anyone. Hence the husband teasing.

I buy "poop bags" at the dollar store. They're $1 for 75 bags. I bag individual poopy diapers and then put them in my Munchkin diaper pail-works great. I get them in either the baby section (scented bags) or the pet section.

I do this as well. I am always amazed at how full the bag is when I empty my diaper pail every evening.

I guess I need to do this too. I just hate spending extra money. And to answer your question, that sounds like a good deal to me.

I picked up a Diaper Champ from a yard sale after years of simply tossing poopy diapers into my bathroom garbage can. I was so sick of the poop smell in my bathroom and sometimes throughout my house. Not to mention the garbage can retained the smell even when there were no diapers in it. The Diaper Champ has made a HUGE difference. Sometimes I do bag the diaper in a grocery bag before disposing of it in the Diaper Champ, sometimes I do not. Either way, no more poop smell. Wish I had bought one sooner. Worth the price for brand new but I scored mine for $2. P.S. We call it the Diaper Chimp just to be funny!

I buy these: http://www.dashmedical.com/Product-L...am-Gloves.html
About the same price as pp. They just raised their price for the first time since I've used them - more than a dozen years, at least. Sometimes I'll sell a box or two from a case to another provider, a friend or a daycare parent.
You have to buy a case, but then they last forever. There is almost always a $5 coupon too. I order one day and receive them a couple of days later.

My hands must be too small - I can't wrap a diaper in my glove But I do use them for anything messy or yucky since I got used to using them And when I have an empty box, I use it to stuff bags in for dirty diapers.

This is me exactly. All at once, a single plastic grocery bag, tie it up when finished. The small trash can bags are a good idea too. They're cheap and smell good.

For my own kids, I was able to get a school cook to save bread bags for me. They go through so many each day and she hated the waste.

I wrap the diaper in the glove I used to change the diaper and toss it in the diaper pail. The pail bag gets changed every day and the pail itself gets sprayed with vinegar water w/lavender oil in it every night then air dries. For exceptionally stinky diapers I do the glove thing then a plastic grocery bag before it goes into the pail.

Not cheesy at all Josie. That is the way I do it, not all separate all in one bag.

I also wrap poopie diapers in the glove trick. They go in a odor block trash bag in garbage can with lid and the trash goes out every day at close. But I do hate spending the money on trash bags.

I use plastic grocery store bags for my bathroom small trash that has pee pee pull ups in it. That also gets tied and tossed every day at close.

I use the most plastic grocery bags for sending home soiled clothes.

When I need more bags, I just bag liberally at the grocery store or take extra. I would never ask people to brunch me bags. JMO.

I bought a little stainless steel trash can with a lid and I keep it on my back porch. I chuck the diapers in that ans at the end of the day, I put them in one plastic bag and off to the trash. Too much plastic the other way. The trash can has a foot opener so no hands!

I buy scented diaper bags from the dollar tree.. If you don't want to purchase bags I would ask the parents of diapered dck to provide one box a month. It would only cost them $1. There are about 25 bags in one box

I buy the scented bags at the dollar tree! They are only $1.00, can count them on your taxes, and smell lovely! They do keep the smell of the poop down

I went to reusable bags at the grocery store so was running out of plastic bags. I ended up buying the sassy brand ones on amazon, $8 for a box of 200 bags. For a while the price on them went crazy high but now it seems to be back down to normal.

I use all reusable bags now. I don't do too many diaper changes anymore ( ) but I buy the blue diaper bags from the dollar store, there are a bunch in a package, they're small, and hold smell well. I place those in my lidded bathroom trash and empty it after meals.

Ask if you can put a box for collecting bags at your church, or if you have a senior center, Elk's Lodge, etc? People bring them to the library in our town so that the library doesn't have to purchase bags for people to use if needed. It is always filled and I've taken some in before too.

I ask for them. All the time! I use the reusable bags now when I go shopping and I just never had enough. I only have 1 DCB potty trained so that's alot of diapers to deal with! I used to do exactly what the OP does but now I try to change everyone at once, put them in the same bag and then into the diaper can that's lined with odor shield trash bags. If I have a random dirty diaper (not during "group change") then I just do the drop, twist, fold over and tie.
One of my DCMs always brings me bags but ive still asked in notes on the bulletin board. Along with tissues, Lysol wipes ect.
The ones at the dollar store ARE great tho! I also grab them when I walk the dogs! Perfect size for poo pickup! Lol

I would totally ask parents for plastic bags if I used them. But I use regular diaper bags that I buy on Amazon. I used my grocery bags for cat litter, heh. Now that everything's going reusable at the grocery store, they make the grocery bags so thin, that they always get holes in them before I can use them, on the rare occasion I forget my reusable bags.

One day a parent said "I don't know how you can stand the poopy diaper smell in here... Why don't you keep the trash can outside?" and I realized I couldn't smell it because I was in the house all day and used to it, but apparently everyone entering my house could smell it and I was embarrassed. Now I keep a lidded step-trash can on my patio and throw the diapers in there. I could never go back to having a diaper pail in the house. When I worked in a daycare center, we had the same problem, everyone entering the room could smell the diaper stench but we were immune to it.
