I am looking at leasing/possibly buying a building to open a daycare center. I found a building that would be perfect BUT there is no yard whatsoever for an outdoor playground. I would have enough room inside to make a room into a playground/climber/slide room. Is an outdoor playground mandatory? Also, parking for this building would be on the street. The street is extra wide. Do I have to have a parking lot? Thanks in advance!

An outdoor playground is preferred, but whether or not it's required is going to depend on your state. Check your state's regulations.

In my state, Kentucky, centers are not required to have an outdoor playground as long as there is an indoor space (with at least 60 square feet per child) separate from the children's regular play area/classroom.

Again, check your regulations on parking. Although I don't think not having a parking lot would be an issue for licensing, just not ideal.

I don't know for sure about centers, but in Kansas home-based day cares are required to have a minimum of 1 hour outside every day.

And in Michigan we also need so much square footage per child. Both indoor and out. I know it's 35 per child indoor, I can't remember outdoor.

I believe if you have a playground within walking distance you are covered, though.

In WI we have minimum space requirements indoors and out also. I personally wouldn't consider any building that wouldn't accommodate an outdoor playground. Children (and adults) NEED to be outdoors in nature regularly!
