I have been checking threads on here but haven't posted in a while because I have a 6mo old in care now.
She has been a handful, literally....happy most of the time (if she's being held).
She came from a very well known center and she must have been held constantly and never put down awake after a bottle. It has been so hard for me to manage to be honest, but I'm doing it. On top of all that she's teething....of course!
On Tuesday the DCM of my 18mo old informed me that DCG would be out Thursday and Friday and I thought GREAT I could really use a break from one of the littles as it would give me a chance to give attention to the baby.
10pm yesterday I get a text from DCM "Do you mind if I bring DCG tomorrow morning, I have a DRs apt and I think she wouldn't get through it very well. I'll pick her up around 12?" I thought to myself HMMM, a stroller? I said no problem of course see you tomorrow.
She stayed for lunch and I get a text at 11:30 "Can you go ahead put her down for a nap too and I'll pick her up after she gets up?"
Sure I cant possibly be busier than you with 6 kids and a screaming teething 6mo old and cleaning up after lunch!!!!! Especially someone who wasn't supposed to bring their 18mo old to daycare anyway!!!
Thank goodness its Thursday!!!!
Vent over!!
Almost Friday, girl! Almost Friday!

always assume that if you have a child in care, they will be there the whole day. no matter what the parents tell me, if a kid is dropped off in the morning, I am prepared for them to stay the whole day. if they get picked up early, great. if not, i was prepared for that anyway. especially older kids. seems like the older they get, the less likely a parent will actually keep them out of daycare

Yup seems to be that way cheerfuldom. I just don't get it really. I have done things sooo differently with my own kids than some of the parents I see today.
I went to a birthday party a few weekends ago and it was about 100 out and a parent stated that the kids should stay outside and the adults can relax inside. I thought to myself aren't the kids hot too? Seems like every chance parents get they want to be away from three kids.

Not only what cheerful said, but also if a parent says they are picking up early I always say in my head "yeah right
". I think picking up early in parent lingo means picking up right at closing time......

I never allow myself to get excited at the thought of a child being picked up early or being absent for a day until it actually happens. Nine times out of 10, the child ends up being here for the entire day - which is fine - but like anyone else, I appreciate a break once in a while. It's disappointing when it doesn't happen.

They pay us. They'll use us.
Even if it means sacrificing time with their children.

Once someone tells me their child will be absent, I don't allow them to change their minds.
Might seem a little extreme but I do it for the VERY reason that Oneluckymom had happen....they ALWAYS change their minds.
We all know how having one child absent changes the entire group dynamics as well as making our day a bit lighter so I hate having to go through the whole
"yah, I am one kid lighter on Tues..." only to have the parent change their minds.
The let down is worse than the excitement...
I only require one week's schedule at a time so honestly if parents can't plan for only a couple days without changing things, then they have bigger issues.
Once you tell me your child has the day off, then I won't take the child.
*Under certain circumstances I will....HAD to work, meregency etc....but I certainly would never agree to take a child because a parent simply changed their mind about brining a child to an appt or on an errand.
If they thought they could manage when they scheduled the day off, then they are just going to have to manage it.
