DD registered (and received) this for her baby shower. She set it up yesterday and put baby in it. Um, NO WAY. Positional asphyxiation risk much?? The padding moves VERY easily and is a suffocation risk. Also, 25lbs? no way, it's FLIMSY.

I cannot believe that this product is on the market as safe, and fisher price blatantly advertises on the front that it's for overnight sleep!

I agree! And because FP claims that it's great for overnight sleep, it MUST be safe, right? Ask any over tired new parent and they'll try anything;justifying it easily.
I'm not sure what kind of rock and play(are there others) my dcm used but she did use one that she said her dd slept great in. Thankfully her dd is now 12 mo and does great in a flat crib, nothing besides her paci.

There are a bunch on the market, from the basics with no features, to vibration, rocking, music and even smartphone linked.

DD is exchanging for a cosleeper to keep kiddo close for nursing. No actual co sleeping.

I hate these things! Everyone i know has their baby sleeping in it... they also tend to get flat heads because they can't move it side to side

I love having a Rock n Play at daycare-it makes it so easy to bring the baby with me into the kitchen while I cook lunch, or when we go downstairs (I have one on each level). I will never understand the parents who let their child sleep in one, though. I'd have been terrified to have my child sleep in one-he was 5 days old the first time he flipped onto his side!

Another vote for hating the rock and play.

Unfortunately it is suggested in so many groups to parents of children with reflux. DS never slept in one. He was in a pack and play bassinet in our room for a couple of weeks then in his crib in his room after that. His reflux was never worse or better because of sleeping flat.

I also see so many parents asking for advice on how to get their 5/6/7 month old child used to sleeping in their crib because they have always slept in the rock and play.

Daycare Providers/SIUDS specialist hate them.

More than likely we'll begin seeing providers with "No Rock N Play use at home" as a prerequisite for infant enrollment.

Shame on Fisher Price to promote unsafe sleep habits.

My kid hated his swing or any movement for that matter.... he slept in a travel suitcase (as in Samsonite) until he was 4 months old. Wonder if licensing would have approved that? lol!

I was at the hospital when dd had to watch the safe sleep and shaken baby videos. I corrected the video (bumper pads!) and the nurse started laughing and said "daycare?" her mom was a provider! She said she is HORRIFIED about what she hears from parents when they watch the videos, and even from nurses on staff with their OWN children.

Yes... we had a water bed at the time.

Even I knew way back then that co-sleeping in a waterbed wasn't ideal.

However the suitcase came into play because we were young and poor. My Dr told me the babies that had the highest rate of SIDS were male, born in the Fall/Winter months, low birth weight and born early. Everything applied to my son so I was terrified to let him sleep in his own room and we couldn't afford a bassinet just yet and PNP's were still playpens (which again we couldnt afford either) so I had this little gray leather travel suitcase and thought "this makes a perfect bassinet"...

My grandmother was from Finland and she talked alot about babies sleeping in baby boxes the hospital provided with baby supplies...once emptied made great baby beds.

My son was probably about 5.5 months with his feet hanging over the edge of the suitcase before I finally felt comfortable enough to let him sleep in his crib for the night.

Me too! I like the height of them. Sleep...no. but I like them better than the bouncy chairs and whatnot.

Those baby boxes in Finland are no joke. I saw just yesterday some state (I think it was Virginia but I'm not sure) are now giving them to every newborn. I think it's fantastic!
