Interview that had me going

1. Potential dcf comes by for an interview. Both teachers in the local school system. It was awkward from the get go.

Pdcf quotes:

"Well if you take our 2 we can get you another 2 kids from another family. But if you don't, well, you're out 4 kids."

"I can make our oldest disappear when the state comes by......they'll have no idea that you have to many kids!"

"You need to have our oldest writing his name before kindergarten - we don't want the school to think we don't work with him."

"Are you going to upgrade to a better house soon? We really don't want to tell people they go to dc in a mobile home."

"Oh you take the kids out on walks? Do you wear...*looks at my outfit which was jeans and a t-shirt-what I wear every day* THAT? Maybe you could put something nicer on...and a little make up."

When I told them I didn't think I was the right fit for their family they actually asked "why?"

I would have asked them to leave immediately following the mobile home comment, but that's just me.

I would have asked them to leave after the comment about my home

Wow - you should've told them that if they wanted you to dress up more and move to a different home they'd have to pay double your normal rate.

"Well if you take our 2 we can get you another 2 kids from another family. But if you don't, well, you're out 4 kids."

My response: "Wow! That's very generous of you! Especially since finding families to pay my extravagant rates and FREQUENT vacation pay has been really hard."

"I can make our oldest disappear when the state comes by......they'll have no idea that you have to many kids!"

My response: "Oh, that's okay, I'll term a couple kids I already have since the rate I'll get from your family plus the other two kids you are promising me will be more than enough to cover all my monthly expenses."

"You need to have our oldest writing his name before kindergarten - we don't want the school to think we don't work with him."

My response: "That will not be a problem at all. I hope your other child and the other two kids like TV because I plan on having it on all day for them to watch while I teach your oldest to write his name."

"Are you going to upgrade to a better house soon? We really don't want to tell people they go to dc in a mobile home."

My response: "Absolutely! I will be moving soon. With the rates I will be getting from your family as well as the other family you promised, I will be YOUR landlord pretty soon!"

"Oh you take the kids out on walks? Do you wear...*looks at my outfit which was jeans and a t-shirt-what I wear every day* THAT? Maybe you could put something nicer on...and a little make up."

My response: "Oh, I won't be taking them on walks. They'll be far too busy watching TV to go outside so don't worry about that.

As for my wardrobe, I will be needing you to bring me gift cards (for high end clothing boutiques) as a weekly bonus with your extraordinarily high tuition payment each week so that I can upgrade my clothing choices.

Since you feel it is "requirement" for the job, I am sure you can probably write it off on your taxes"

I commented in bold.

its funny but it also makes me sick. they are far more worried about appearance than quality child care.

Cheer nailed it - more concerned about appearance.

Yes, it really did happen. They actually live in ritzville south of here & were looking for dc here bc they work in the local school system.

The first home dc they were at was a ritzy dc on the ritzy lake where all the dr's, lawyers, big business peeps live. She closed down & all her kids went to a new home dc on the other side of the ritzy lake. That home dc is closing down now.

The town I live in is not all about appearance/money (or rather, appearing to have $$$.)

Both of the home dc's they were at were over ratio at all times due to needing $$$ to pay their $2000 mortgages every month. (Before anyone goes "I have a $2000 a month mortgage and I'm not like that!' Relax, it's not directed at you and I really don't care what you pay. Here, a $2000 a month mortgage is massive. Average home price here for 3 bdrm 2 bath is around $100,000.) Hence the "disappear" comment.

Anyways-yeah.....Definately not someone I want to work with.

The part that killed me the most was asking about the child writing his name, so that the teachers won't think the parents didn't work with him. Which appears to be exactly the truth ! Yet, they can recognize they should be doing it and instead of fixing it and working with him - they are asking you to do it. Ahhhhhhhhhh.

...which was bad enough but to then find out that they work for the school system....?! Wow! Please tell us they aren't actually teachers themselves and that they work in some other capacity for the school.

WOW!!!!!!!

I'm quite sure this family did not miss the mobile home as they drove up to your house. If they were concerned about having their kids in a mobile home, then they should have just kept driving.

I'm very passive, but I believe had somebody come at me with those types of demands the interview would not have lasted very long before I kicked them out of my mobile home, laughing all the way....

I certainly hope they teach better than they parent.

What? How rude! How can someone even dare to tell you what to wear? I would be so offended that I would have asked them to leave my house.

Wow!

When they asked why they weren't a good fit, what did you say?

I think I would have said "because we don't share the same values. Thanks for coming by."

I would have said ALL my children write their name before kindergarten. I can give you some ways to practice at home though.

I could not have been mean I hope I could have said no to their face and not emailed them later.

Wow..those parents sound messed up. And they actually had enough of a "set" to ask "why"? Some people..*shakes head*

If it were me in that position, once they started criticizing my home and my appearance, I would've ended the interview and asked them to please leave.
