Hey ladies! So Thursday I had to take the day off to get my 1st root canal. I had given parents 3 weeks notice and everything was fine. Well, come Thursday afternoon, while I'm getting my root canal done, my dentist stops in the middle of it to take an Xray. Turns out the drill bit broke off inside the canal and I had to immediately drive an hour away to a specialist to get it surgically removed . So my '45 minute basic procedure' turned into a 5 hour nightmare of getting this thing out. I was a wreck. I already have a dentist phobia and I was on sedatives and I was all around just emotional and scared. So I called my parents and asked if it was OK to take Friday off, also (unpaid). They said oh no! No problem.

SO It turns out I had an infection and have to go get the root canal finished (after antibiotics) in 2 weeks and am going to have to close early to go get it done.

I'm also closed on Labor Day and I also took the 14th off to take my son to a theme park while family is in town. I feel like I'm getting a bunch of time off lately and feel guilty. I mean, really, only one day is personal and the others are medical/holiday. In my HB it states I get 5 personal paid days a year and will give as much notice as possible. SO tell me its OK ladies! I love your reassurance

It's OK!!! Take the time you need! Your parents sound very understanding, and even if they weren't, everyone needs time off for different things, it's ok! Also, it's ok to not ask for permission to take a day off....tell them when you need time off. Hope you're feeling better!

In my contract/handbook...on top of the normal holidays, professional days, personal days, vacation days, ....I have "xxxxx will close during all emergencies.....electric/water outage, funerals or sickness, etc..."...I do not put a number on those days. Your dentist issue is emergency related. Some years I have NO emergencies but I have had years it seemed I closed for so many funerals or my brother's two heart attacks he had in 4 weeks time....Bottom line, providers can't control emergencies so don't let your clients make you feel bad. By the way, I get paid 52 weeks a year REGARDLESS! Sometimes I might get a snarky remark or look, and I look right backat them with a "right back at ya"

I'm so sorry! Your poor mouth! Try not to worry and remember you need personal time in order to be a good provider. Hang in there.

Um. You're human!!? Things happen to everyone. I'm sorry all that happened with your mouth. Especially with a dentist phobia to being with.
Good parents will understand. You probably don't need the other parents anyways. I stress in my policies to have back-up, it's extremely important because life happens.
In all my years of doing daycare, I only remember 1 parent saying anything even remotely like 'what am *I* going to do now?' type of response. I felt like saying not my problem lady. My mom was dying and I told myself I only have one mom. I'll get more dcparents. All my other parents always ask me 'are you sure you don't need more time?'

So please!! Take the time you need!! They will survive.
