Why does everyone think I have no life and want to watch their kids on weekends
I watch them for 12 hrs a day 5 days a week I spend enough time with your kid
The weekend is your time with your kid have fun!
Ps this means no I am not watching your kid Saturday night

I had a mom ask me to watch her kids on a Saturday afternoon so that she and her husband could go golfing. I said "that sounds like fun! I'll watch yours (3) on Saturday, and you can watch mine (3) on Sunday so that I can go golfing, too!".

She said ALL THREE OF THEM?! I couldn't do that. Riiiight. Hasn't asked for a Saturday again.

I offer parent's night out every so often for 4 hrs. on a Sat. night. It is nice to have a little extra $$$. But, a minimum number of kids must sign up or it isn't worth it for me.

With the exception of a few ballgames, church events, etc...my weekends are spent at home which I enjoy with my boys! BUT with a large family, staying home means certain members feel this is a license for them to leave their kids....many of us live close together which doubles the problem....You just have to learn to say "NO" when you do NOT want to keep their kids....Same thing for me when we are at church/family get-togethers....If I had a quarter for every time someone said let xxxx handle the kids she knows how to do that cause she does it everyday???? GRRRRR!!!!! This used to make me so angry....I learned to say "NO"....I still get the wanting advice about children but parents really DO NOT want to hear what I have to say about "co-sleeping, setting boundaries, or just plain be the parent" so they only ask once.....guess I have gotten tough in my old age

Yep, been there done that. Last year I only provided part time care. One week near Christmas I closed Thursday, Friday and Monday so DH and I could go on vacation in Florida. I was due to return to my state late Saturday night and had a DCF text me in the middle of my vacation when I was 2000 miles away from home to ask:
1) when I returned from my vacation (they had know for about 3 months) and 2) if I could watch their child on Sunday so they could clean their windows and carpets before their Christmas company arrived.

I think they forget that we're human, have our own families and our own lives outside of day care.

I agreed to watch one of my dc kids on a Saturday once so his parents could attend a family wedding where no children were invited. Since she was my husband's co-worker, I didn't even charge her - just did it as a favor. I didn't mind until the following month when I had to close a one half hour early to bring my child to the doctor. She deducted $2.50 from the tuition check she owed me for the week. My policy is that I don't get paid when I'm the one who closes the day care so fair enough but you can be sure I never agreed to watch her kid (or anyone else's) on a weekend again!

And I'm thinking to myself how inconsiderate some people are.....like my dcm that is having issues with her boyfriend, he is the one who picks up her son from dc, Dad is not in the picture. Who asks me "would it be okay if he stays an hour or so later each day while I figure things out ??!!" Umm NO, I have kids here at 630am until 5pm, what makes you think I want to cut into the only 3 hours of family time in my evenings I have because of your home issues?? Sorry but that's not happening!!

I had the same thought. How unbelievably cheap considering you have her a free night out- the nerve!

I do Saturdays for double my daily rate and a max of 6 hours. Plus, I take their kids with me if I need to go out. I also require two weeks notice. I have a couple of families that use it a few times per year. I charge enough that I really don't mind here and there.

I don't do weekends under any conditions. I've thought about doing a "date night" for parents some weekend my wife's on call, but it's not a line I want to cross.

It happened several years ago and I'm still laughing about it! Like I said, based on our contract, she had every right to do what she did and $2.50 didn't make or break me but....yeah...just a tad cheap.
