put a hole or a slice in the top, depending on what your going to use, and have them push stuff through it. make the hole a little smaller then the object. you can even cut a hole out of the bottom on the side for the younger ones to retrieve the item from.
stuff with newspaper and cover them in contact paper to help them last a little longer and put them in the block area.
Cut the bottoms out of a few, and tape them together to make tubes out of. they love to roll stuff through them
Put them in the art area to paint on
Cover them in contact paper, sticky side OUT, for them to cover in paper bits, or whatever you have on hand, to make a 3 D art project.
Decorate each one different and stack together to make a todem pole
They also make great storage for things....like pipe cleaners, hot glue sticks, etc.

Looking at my messy craft area... I like the last idea of storage. I make a lot of granola, so I'll have more tubs later.
