Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>What Are Your GO TO Infant Toys?
Lilbutterflie 07:02 AM 05-26-2011
I'm getting to ready to add infants to my mix of all preschoolers, and it's been a while since I've had to entertain an infant!

What are your "Go to" no fail infant toys that all your babies seem to love? I'm talking any toys, activity mats, exersaucers, sensory items, etc...

Are there any that you have made? A lot of the cloth activity mats and cloth blanket, dolls and such I see in the expensive catalogs seem to be easy to make if you can sew. Have any of you done that?

I LOVE LOVE the clear blocks that Fisher Price makes. Each block has a different thing inside and each does a different thing and most have different textures on the surfaces as well. My littles (well, and my big ones) LOVE them!! I think they are called Peek-a-blocks

We like shaky toys. I take plastic containers, with screw on lids. Creamer, Pb jars, water bottles etc. I put things in them and liquid nail them shut. I have a creamer jar with a plastic spoon in it, a few waterbottles with feathers and pompoms, birdseed, matchbox car in a Pb jar. They like blankets, just recording blankets, they roll and chew, they like cloth books. I have made some with different textures on each page. We don't do battery toys here. I feel it limits their imagination. And they get enough power items at home. Here I want them using their minds. I don't do swings, saucers, or anything like that.

http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-I...uct/B001HTJS60 This Rocker chair has been my most valuable possession.

http://www.amazon.com/Vulli-Sophie-t..._bxgy_ba_img_c Sophie is wonderful too, but I wouldn't pay for it myself (for daycare) Ours was a hand me down. It's a favorite, but not worth almost $20 when other kids are going to chew on it too.

http://www.amazon.com/Earlyears-E009...6427976&sr=1-2 These are also a favorite... although we only have a few left... now that I think about it, I don't know where the others went. I'll have to look for them.

I loved my exersaucers and bouncers, but they're no longer legal here.

I found most soft and chewable toys the best. Especially things that could be easily washed in the washer or dishwasher.

Same here. I also only purchase submersible toys for disease control.

I debated buying this toy for a year or two. Someone finally offered me one for free so I snatched it up. It is one of my favorite items. Tummy time babies to preschoolers enjoy using it and it's variety of activities teach the basic preschool concepts of colours, shapes, numbers, etc. I would pay full price to replace this item if it ever breaks down.

This just made my day! A long time ago I made my husband go through boxes and boxes of junk from years ago. He has this exact giraffe from when he was a baby! OMG, I'm so excited now I'll have to buy one new now that I know what it is for our own child and make it a tradition of something special. Thanks Yourtooloud for posting this link!
