What are some ridiculous requests you have gotten from parents?

I just received a request to please stop allowing a child to get wet shoes due to him going home with wet shoes 2 days in a row. We play outside twice a day and often times the sprinklers wet the grass at the parks thus getting each child's (and my own!) shoes wet. I responded that the child could be sent in rain boots, crocs, or with another pair of shoes but I will not restrict them to just the sidewalk for play.

Please do not leave dolls and other girl's toys in the reach of my 18 mos son (Termed)

Please allow my son to pee in the playground, he is used to go outside when needed (umm NO)

Please don't give my kid any juice or milk we are trying to watch calories intake, but you can give her pop-tartz she loves them ()

I'm sure I got more

Please let Johnny skip nap today.

Make sure Jane eats ALL her lunch today.

Susie has a cough, she needs to stay inside today.

******************************************************

Those are not necessarily odd requests but they ARE ridiculous.... simply that the parent actually expects that I am able to manage those things WHILE caring for 9 other kids.

My ALL time favorite ridiculous request:

Can you hold this check until next week?

OR

Would it be ok if I just pay you next week?

or some version of the above.

Oh lord. The ever present "just spank them" suggestion for bad behavior.

Keep dcb out of princess dress up clothes. And away from dolls.

Sing and rock and walk 1 year old to sleep everyday.

at interview:
".we bounce dcg in our arms to get her to sleep" (she was 9 months old). ummm, no I can't do although I am sure it would be a good workout. I did not accept them into care.

Or-

DCD has later work hours now (didn't have to be at work until 7:30, used to need to be in office at 6:45) due to a new position but we will still drop off at 6:15 & we will now need to pick up later (at 5). I'm sure you won't mind watching the kiddos an extra 1/2 hr each day for free. NO. Just NO

While this didn't happen to me but a fellow provider a few years ago. It is so out there that it should be told. lol

The day before Thanksgiving one of her dcm's came in with a whole uncooked turkey and asked her to cook it for her because she was going to be too busy to do it herself!!! Sadly she was so shocked by the request she actually cooked the darn thing!

Um..wow?

That's probably the BEST (and saddest) thing I've ever heard in response to this question.

Did the DCM atleast invite the provider to dinner?

I would have ruined that turkey. What's she going to say? I brought this turkey to my kids daycare and she ruined it? lol

Can you make sure to change sons diaper right after he goes? (Because if you don't it will fly right out the sides, he had diarrhea all weekend)

Will you take them if I just have them wear socks and gloves all day? (In reference to active hfmd infection)

Can you just give him a spoonful of honey? (Child was coughing so hard he was near throwing up and his face was turning purple)

Can't we just wait two hours until my husband gets off work to get the spare set? (Parent who's child was locked in their vehicle in my driveway)

From child, as her brother was locked inside the family's vehicle in my driveway for an hour past closing....Miss J, can I play with that? ( my dogs had been locked up for 10 hours, I wasnt waiting any longer, throwing fetch with a chuck it to release some pent up energy) No. My dogs are big and need to run around for awhile over there, I don't want them accidentally knocking you over...... (child turns to mom and demands through a giant pissed off stream of SCREEEEAAAAMS)......MOOOOOOOOOMMMMY, I WANT TO PLAY WITH THOSE DOOOOOGIES....MAKE MISS J LET ME PLAY WITH THOSE DOGGIES RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!! Mom looked at me but the horrified/shocked/disgusted look plastered on my face made her think twice about opening her mouth).

All from the same family. I could unfortunately go on for days

When I worked in a preschool, I had a parent tell me in a stern voice that her child was to wear his snow pants everyday that she packed them. (I got along well with her, but she was a parent that was very intimidating). She was very surprised to find her son, in the sandbox, wearing snow pants on a 70" day. She had packed them, and so I followed the orders. She looked horrified when she picked him up, but I think she learned her lesson

seems like almost all of these requests are form parents that just dont think before they speak and have no concept of group care. thats why i love to work for teachers!

I have teacher dcps and they are far and away the most difficult and demanding parents I have! The mom didn't want me giving her child Cheerios because they contain sugar, so she brought her version of Cheerios...which may contain traces of peanuts, after she signed a notice that I have a child in care with a life threatening peanut allergy. "But yours have sugar in them!"
Nobody here is deathly allergic to sugar, lady.

I'm also wondering what a CFer is?

an interview once

Parent- What do you serve for meals that are healthy?

Me- I went on and on and on

Me- Then I thought maybe I should ask what the child likes, feel the parent out a little bit. So I asked if the child had any allergies and what the child likes to eat at home for meals?

Parent- Raimon noodles, french fries, nuggets, fruit loops and some other off the wall food that you wouldn't feed a six month old. Then parent goes on to tell me and go ahead and let that diaper fill right up because they are expensive and can't afford them

I did have one parent ask me to make sure her son used two fewer diapers a day. I was confused and asked her if she wanted me to leave him in a wet or soiled diaper in order for her to save money. she said no, change him if he needs it, just make sure he goes fewer times during the day. what the what?!?! I guess she thought I was some sort of baby magician and can control their bodily functions. Needless to say, she was strange and got termed down the road. She didnt feel that her son should be reprimanded for aggressive behavior because he was just snuggling in a different way than the other kids. the other kids should learn that he was just trying to snuggle. she was termed when her snuggler jumped on my daughter and close fist punched her in the back until I had to physically rip him off her. He was only a year old!!!

This one always makes me wonder if she was okay with other children "aggressively snuggling" her child... I have one (the one I am always posting about ) whose mom thinks everything he does is excused because "he is only 1.5, now 2, now 3, now 4, now 5 yo" but if another child even "makes him sad" by not talking to him the way he wants to be talked to it is the end of the world

I just thought of this request from a parent I had about 8 years ago. Dad was a real weirdo. Strange ideas. He came in to drop off the boy and told me that I could just cut off the sleeves on the boys shirt instead of the mom always buying new clothes when the season changed. (he was an ultimate cheap skate). I had a young girl working for me at the time and we really had to keep from acting shocked until he left. This is the same parent that asked me not to give him any milk at all because it gives him a beer belly.

DCM never sends what her child needs for the day so one day DCG got soaked after falling in a puddle outside.
Of course DCG had no change of clothes and could not stay inside all muddy and wet so I called DCM to pick her up or send clothes.
DCM says - Well can't you just put some of your son's clothes on her? (He is 2 years older than her)
I could but why should I? Take care of your child and send the things she needs for daycare!
