My neighbours are so awesome and understanding. They all know I do daycare and comment all the time on how they love when we are out and they can hear the dcks playing. Even the crying and transitioning ones. My direct neighbour always asks me if it's ok to cut the lawn while we are out (I would never say no but I think it's a nice gesture). Bless their hearts. They are all older (retired) and their children have long grown and left home so I know that they are being honest.

Playcare, I hope your day goes smoothly and quickly!

Is it just me, or is daycare the only place these kids have ever SEEN a vegetable? Every time a new kid starts, it takes months before they'll touch ANY veggie.

yep. I have a daycare mom that said these words:

"Since me and dad hate vegetables I am glad you serve them. At least I know they are getting them somewhere."

I questioned another family member and yep...daycare mom and dad do not serve ANY type of vegetable at all. period.

Okay, they finally settled down.
The little ones are napping.
Older kiddos are watching a movie (yes, they are and I don't care! )

On a side note, I think it's odd when dcp's make it seem to their kids that they are going to do different/fun things at daycare now that it's summer. Then the kids are disappointed because it's not like DisneyWorld Day Care.
Sorry, the calendar may say summer, but I still have littles ones who need diaper changes, routines, etc.
another reason I'm not doing SA care this summer.

I grew up a VERY picky eater. I go out of my way to encourage my son to eat EVERYTHING (and he does). I wasn't following that advice about bland foods for babies or anything like that. I exposed him to everything I could. He eats any meat (deer, goose, duck, fish, chicken, beef, pork), and he LOVES veggies (but, so does his mom). He doesn't care for peas, and rarely eats them. I can deal with that, but I don't stop serving them. We have peas once a week here-I know that SOMEDAY, he'll probably start to like them to, due to constant exposure to them.

Because of my history of picky eating, I try extra hard to make sure that my son isn't picky (because it's hard on a kid who won't eat anything). I have a lot of food allergies, too, and know what I'm missing (I miss strawberries so much sometimes that it hurts!).

I'm not doing SA care now, either....we are having a wonderful summer! Can't believe the difference it has made.

Right! Younger kiddos are mostly content to play outside, take walks, do some backyard water play, etc.
Once they hit SA, they are "bored" and keep asking to do other things and usually things I can't allow per licensing. I especially won't miss being asked during nap time "when are the kids going to get up?" A thousand times or "when are we going to have snack?" Even though we just finished lunch, etc.

I'm probably being a total witch, but I'm super annoyed.
I have been telling DH all week I was going running today. I'm signed up for a half marathon and I *need* to get training. I hear you can't just pull a half out of your a$$.

So what does he do? Makes plans to go golfing this morning and schedules the driveway sealer to come as well as make up lessons for the girls piano/uke. Guess I'm putting off my run, again. Then when I'm witchy this morning he has the nerve to ask if I slept well. I slept fine, you're a big jerk.

And if he thinks this week is going to be me doing all the running while he plays, he's got another thing coming.

My kids downloaded over 100 worth of games on xbox while at the cottage with the grandparents today! They're non refundable, I'm livid and they will be working their tails off all summer to pay me back-

oh, and NO.XBOX.ALL.SUMMER.

I'm the worst Mom ever.

That is all.

Ooh, you need one of these:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-18-...Q&gclsrc=aw.ds

My DH redid our roof at daycare a couple years ago. He was afraid he had dropped a few nails and didn't want the DCK's to accidentally find one by stepping on them so he bought one of those and my oldest DCK at the time, probably spent an entire week rolling it around the yard.

He had a blast and he cleaned up too! Win-win!

Daycare baby is on week 2 of teething, and he is the most awful teething ba y have ever cared for. I have to admit, he is no peach when feeling totally well either, but never this bad. Then, to top it off. I accidentally pinched him arm between the highchair and tray while buckling him in for lunch. Needless to say, he was beyon d angry, and I feel awful about the small bruise on his arm. Today can get better any time now!

"My mom says I'm not supposed to take a nap".

Your mom will be thrilled when she shows up at 5:30 and finds you sleeping on the couch then because you were unable to make it through the day without one. But, at least I followed Mom's orders!

I just hate the interview process, makes me think I may just keep a low enrollment for the summer!

Had a family sign on in the end of May (around there at least I can't remember exactly) to start in the last week of June or first week of July. Had an older child at another daycare but was pretty sure they wouldn't have an opening until at least august and even then wouldn't plan to switch. Well after putting off the start date here, guess what daycare has an opening in August?! Yup, siblings daycare so the baby won't be coming here after all. I charged a 160/holding fee that I'm keeping which I suppose is good but I definitely learned a lesson here. Never holding a spot for more then 2 weeks without full payment. That 160$ doesn't hold up to the weeks of income I lost by not taking anyone else. *Sigh* back to the interview process...

I will try for 90 minutes to get an infant to sleep under those circumstances (parents doing something at home we can't do in care) and then I call for pick up.

I refuse to deal with the fall out of someone's unhealthy decisions. Parents created the issue so parents can fix/deal with it.

DCD who trys to linger at pickup asked me if I was in a bad mood today, after trying to hand me back 6 month old DCBaby joking saying he "wanted to stay here". I smiled at DCBaby and said "You don't want to stay here all night, and Miss A doesn't want to keep you. She has too much to do, you would be bored" DCD translated that to Miss A was being a big old B, and had a rough day. No DCD, I just hate when you hang out here while I push you out the door every single night, and you NEVER get the hint to pick up and leave!

We signed up our kids for our towns arts and crafts morning program for SA kids. Older DD especially seems to hate it.

I keep trying to find out if there's a legit reason for not wanting to go, but it seems it's just boring. Admittedly I didn't think the programming would be spectacular but figured it would be a chance to socialize and get away from daycare. She just keeps saying it's boring and she she doesn't want to go.

OMG - to all of the above!!

I'm on vacation this week and I've been spending my time off cleaning -- I mean CLEANING! - my house because it's been so long since I've had the time and energy to give it a good, deep cleaning and it needs it.

Just cleaned my kitchen yesterday: wiped down the walls, cabinets, appliances, washed the floor...I even took my microwave apart and cleaned all the vents on it.

A few minutes ago, my son decided to get himself a glass of Coke and as he opened it, the cap blew off. Now I have Coke literally dripping from those same walls, cabinets, appliances, microwave vents and...oh yeah...the ceiling! It's all over the floor as well. I came here to vent because I was close to tears and I didn't want him to feel any worse than he already does. Although he is cleaning up the mess as I type, I know I'm going to have to go over it all again if I don't want sticky Coke residue all over the kitchen.

Anyway....when I saw what everyone else was venting about, it gave me a much needed laugh (sorry!). I feel much better about my own situation now. I don't have a sarcastic/oblivious dcd to deal with. I don't have poop in my mouth and although I do have a dd with a major case of poison ivy all over her legs and it's been a little hellish for her, is she's at least coping with it as best she can. So, thank you all for helping me put things in perspective.

I work at a center. How do you handle undiagnosed developmental delays? This little girl is three and a half, says about 15 words (I'm probably being generous there) and can be challenging in other ways. She walks, climbs, and bikes fine, no obvious gross motor issues. Fine motor is okay. Verbally and socially she seems like she is not even two. She hits, cannot keep hands to herself, has a notably more limited attention span for her age. She does smile at you, give hugs, etc. She has trouble following directions. I'm mostly frustrated because I have no real info on how best to respond to her. A common scenario is asking her to wash hands and it becomes a battle where even if I said "okay skip hand washing, let's sit for lunch" she would cry and scream. Do I treat it like any other tantrum or is there something else I could be doing to help her? Her parents have to know this is not normal, and since we are caring for her at least six hours a day five days a week its hard to not know what's going on. Not looking for answers, just frustrated and wishing I could do more.

Oh, that's too bad! I hope the weather there improves so you can enjoy a day or two at least. They're predicting storms for tomorrow for this area but they were predicting the same for this past weekend and nothing happened. We'll see; we could really use some rain.

I am not a center employee, but what is your relationship like with the parents? Have you brought up your concerns before? Sometimes dropping hints helps.

"Sue has been struggling with hitting here. How do you handle it at home?" (let parent talk or deny) "I would like to give her the words to use instead of hitting, but she is isn't speaking sentences quite yet which makes it challenging for her."

"Sue has tantrums during transition times, how do you handle those at home?"

"She is really trying to interact with her peers, but her limited verbal ability hinders her social progress. How well does she talk with you at home?"

They are probably in denial, or truly do NOT understand typical child development.

I would also bring your concerns to your boss immediately. A child with that level of aggression is a huge liability.

Sharing "positive" for the last day of the work week, lol...
The week started off so sloooooow.... and yet here it is...Friday! I always get excited for Fridays...it means "grown-up" and "me" time! it also means focusing on my family and not giving them leftovers or half of my attention. My favourite part is "Friday Night Date Night!" This is when my husband plans a date night for us once a week.
Back when we decided this was important to us, I told him it was "his" responsibility to organize or think up of because I am always the one that organizes all family events (we have 6 boys, lol..youngest is 14), appointments, financial tasks, meal planning, grocery and errand shopping, etc etc... This was going to be his opportunity to express his gratitude by thinking of a date for Fridays. I know we both win on these dates, and they are by far not expensive dinner dates...sometimes just a ride in the country with the windows down with one on one chats as best friends. It's something I really crave after a week of little people, lol.
However Sunday night...I get homesick for my little ones all over again and the week starts over, lol..
Enjoy your weekend ladies and men!
Have a blessed one and be safe!

Daycare mom needs to learn about something called "personal responsibility"

I'd make a point of going out of my way to give her the silent treatment at drop offs. (~just 'cuz I can be shallow like that sometimes )

Bad enough I still have to fix the car from when i was runoff the road last Saturday in Macon, GA

Yikes! I hope you and your family are okay after being run off the road!

As for DCP banging on your door, I hope they got an earful or atleast put their tail between their legs and humbly left once they realized you were closed.

Hope your vacation was nice otherwise...

Awww....do you get to talk with them at all? They'll probably be kept so busy they won't give you a 2nd thought. JK It's usually the anticipation of something new and different but I'll bet they're having a great time!

My son has gone to church camp the past two years....first year I was nervous, but this year....not so much....he loved it....he is a picky eater which worried me the most but I firmly believe NOW that if a child gets hungry....they will eat ANYTHING!

I'm sure they are having a great time, but I would be so much more relaxed if I got some confirmation of that.

A friend of mine lost her husband in a motorcycle accident a month ago. In a couple of weeks they are having a pig roast benefit with proceeds going to the family. This is a family that probably needs all the help they can get...
Anyway, another friend shared it on their Facebook page and some woman is complaining about the pig roast as she's a vegetarian and she thinks it's awful, etc.

I get having ethical issues with meat consumption, but a BENEFIT page is not the place to make your opinion known.
At most a "I don't eat meat, how can I donate?" Would be the limit.

I take more offense at her rudeness than I do the animal being killed.

We live in a yuppie area, and dh always plays spot the vegetarian/vegan when we go out (which is hilarious, because dh is a vegetarian), and I kid you NOT someone ALWAYS mentions it during a meal and tries to shame the meat eaters.

They had an entire conversation about "would you eat your dog/cat" at our last couples dinner, and dh wonders why I just tell them to leave the bottle of wine on the table.

I'm obnoxious and just go back to whatever delicious animal I'm eating and talk about how wonderful rare beef is.

Backstory: last fall I took a medically fragile child for a mom who NEEDED daycare. It went OK. I never really cared for mom because she always seemed evasive and a little weird. After about 12 weeks, she suddenly pulled without notice. Said child was going to be cared for by a relative. OK, whatever. Next week, I see posts on Facebook about how lucky she was to have FINALLY gotten into the daycare that she's been on the wait list for, and how WONDERFUL it was there, and how GRATEFUL she is to know her child is safe and well cared for. Ok, double whatever.

Here's the vent: This bio has invited me to her wedding! AND her child's birthday party. I ignored the invites. I don't have a relationship with these people, I don't even like them. Now, I get demands for gifts! I'm supposed to attend her bridal home party (with a jewelry company) to help her finance her wedding jewelry, it's OK if I don't come, but she really NEEDS me to buy something. She send me a wish list for her daughter's birthday party, and twice I've received messages from her with her with links to her bridal registry. I'm also invited to the bridal shower and the wedding reception.

How stupid are people? Does she really think that I'm going to show up for these events, or even send a gift? She left me owing $40. She hasn't directly bad mouthed me, but she has gushed and gushed about her new daycare, which rubbed me the wrong way (her new daycare, BTW, tries to poach my clients on a regular basis, straight out asking them to come to her place because she's cheaper). Our relationship was probably the most superficial daycare relationship I've ever had. There was no implication of friendship or even that we liked one another.

I can't believe that she can't take a hint. I've thought of just blocking her messages on FB, but I'm not threatened by them, just in utter awe of her sense of entitlement.

I have thought that I should send them a card with a note saying that their gift is the $40 they owe. I didn't go after the money because honestly, I was glad to be rid of the family and have them gone without terming, and didn't think it was worth it to chase after $40. I WOULD go after the money had it been someone who had truly crossed me, though.

Thankfully it was just me in the car... daughter & grands were in Florida waiting for me ... got there 24 hrs later than planned which made me miss seeing my other DD (my youngest who is in the Navy) because she had a very short leave & they were trying to surprise me. Life happens

The storms changed some of my other plans as well, but all in all I had fun and got a great tan; today the DCP that woke me Monday actually has to go in later today and others won't arrive 'til at least 8am, so I went to Panera and got my free coffee and am sitting here in peace & quiet lol

Well I may have had a nice quiet day to start, but lunch & nap will be all messed up because the same DCP let little man sleep until 9:30 and is now feeding him (knowing full well I do lunch at 11am and nap at Noon)... it's going to be a long day now

It's in the Policies that all children 12 months and older are on a schedule here for meals; just thankful the other 2 older babes are on vacation, so I won't be wasting too much food. It's just been me and the 5 month old for just over an hr & he's still sleeping lol

It happens... at least she got to see her sister and her niece & nephews. Who knows when her next leave will be, she went to boot camp 11 months ago, then directly into training /classes in Monterey and this was her first leave (her Birthday is next Friday)

cut off from work went to go enroll my daughter in to the school district in which the daycare was located she attended the same school last year and rode the bus to and from school from the daycare after the enrollment I went to the daycare to pick her up and was handed a letter that states I am no longer going to be able to care for your daughter at the daycare anymore effective August 1st I am no longer going to be able to care for children who do not have younger siblings currently enrolled here at the daycare we have truly enjoyed caring for your daughter over the years but I have such a huge number of new kindergarten children going to school that have younger siblings here in preschool that I am having to change her after school policy she has been at the stake here for the past three years can they legally do this or would it be discriminating

That does stink! What is the day care's written policy regarding school aged children? My policy is very similar (I do not keep school aged kids unless they have a younger, full time sibling here) but it's in my contract and explained to parents as well as a verbal reminder when the time starts getting close. No one can say they are surprised when I remind them it's time to "graduate" from my day care...
That said, At the end of the day the provider can chose what type of care she's willing to offer, and that's not discrimination. However this all should have been in writing and discussed beforehand, IMO.
Hopefully you will be able to find an new care situation that better suits your needs.

Yes it is the provider's business and she can enroll whichever age group she sees fit.

I have the same policy- only school age children who have a younger full time sibling enrolled in care.

I find it makes the transition easier to 'school' on most kids when they move daycare to SA care and school at/near the same time.

I loved the suggestion about the $40 owing being the wedding gift. But maybe it would also be helpful to suddenly adopt a policy of not having daycare families be facebook friends. I made the mistake of having my first family be a facebook friend, but never, ever again.

I have almost 17 currently enrolled families as my "friends" on Facebook and I have almost all of my past clients. Even termed ones who haven't un-friended me.

I like it. I know many don't on this forum but I enjoy it. I don't go out socially with the families while they're enrolled here and I always enforce my policies. There aren't any blurred lines.

Least favorite DCBaby is being a terror again today. Was awake at 4:30am at home, and has only napped 30 minutes for me since arriving 4 hours ago. Screaming and angry spitting and keeping all my other kids awake, even while I hold him. Little does he know, I will this battle.

What a day. I've had no voice for the last two days from being sick, it's been much better today but still could be better!

Around 10am I cut my head removing a support bar for some closet shelving in my service porch. DH had to come home and I ended up at urgent care. Fortunately it only needed to be glued. Day has been pretty shot with the kids watching a movie for the second time this week (the first being Monday when I was still pretty sick).

To top it off DCG3 had two accidents right next to each other. She's been potty trained like a year so back to pull-ups again I guess

You all know how hectic my life has been with these moves past few weeks. Today we did the uhaul after kids left and Im calling it quits. I am so stressed, tired, beyond exhausted, and I am getting snappy with DH. I just want to cry honestly. I can't wait for this all to be over. Taking it easy with the kids tomorrow and looking forward to my massage Sat. Sorry just needed to vent.

They're paying you late because you are allowing them to do so without penalty.

Dear dcp's,

Effective 8/5/2016 all payments are due on Friday by 6pm (or whenever you close). Late fees in the amount of $X will be charged for each day late. Your child will not be admitted back into care until payment, including late fees are paid in full.

Thank you,
Dcp

Most of my parents pay me monthly (no later than child's drop off time the first of month); My weekly pay clients owe me the next weeks fee by pick up time the last day their child attends each week. I do not accept payments on the weekend either - You don't pay on time your contract automatically gets changed to Drop-in status & I start calling people on the waitlist. Only had one issue in 6 years

ANY time a parent says they are picking up early, I hand them a Post-it note. I have them write down the time they are coming. That (the post it note) becomes their newly adjusted written schedule.

In other words, if they don't pick up early (the time they wrote down) they are late. .....and subject to my regular late fee ($1 per minute)

Also if I KNOW a parent isn't working I don't care if they use daycare for the day but I make sure they know their child canNOT be the last pick up or the first drop off of the day.

I operate on contracted hours so I don't usually have issues with not knowing when a parent will be here to drop off or pick up but the above strategies are useful when "I'll pick up early" is as real as the Toothfairy.

Excellent idea! What do you do when the other parent is picking up and the dropping off parent says the picking up parent *may* pick up early if they can?

Thank you DH for just now telling me the friend is coming over for dinner. Nap time is over, and i have zero time to get things cleaned. Or shower. Or cook anything because like I told him this MORNING we do not have enough of anything and need to go to the store. So now he's stopping at the store after work, i have to throw it together at an awful time of day for my own kids and try not to completely loose it on him in front of company.
Seriously, all week, you have had ALL week to plan this with several reminders. So not impressed right now.

Less than one month before my current dcks leave. One will go to 4k and the other turns 2 in a few weeks and is going to a center. The 4 yo dcb is so sassy and disrespectful and he just laughs about it. The almost 2 yo dcg won't give me eye contact and has not shown any affection to me since starting at 6 weeks old. And has cried when i lay her down for naps for what seems like everyday sinice she's started here. She never has cared that dad leaves her here and very rarely plays. She'll watch others play or just chew on toys. September can't come soon enough.

that's why set hours are great, it helps us to have a life and schedule things. I had one once, that I was closed for the day and made arrangements with mom to find alternate care. 7am there's knocking on the door. The parent's sent the kids to grandma and did not tell grandma I was closed for the day. I felt bad saying no to grandma, who had to go to work. Wondering if they were hoping that I wouldn't say no to grandma or that grandma would just eventually keep them.
