I require all kids to remove their shoes upon arrival. There is a bench right inside the door with shoe bins under it. DCB is 4...good and obedient 90% of the time. Little sis is 2 next month. Different story. They came through the door this morning and this is the conversation between mother and daughter.
DCG: NO shoes off!
DCM: OK...I'll help brother (she does)
DCG: (scowls)
DCM: Can Mommy help you take your shoes off now?
DCG: NO!
DCM: But you need to take them off so you can go play
DCG: NO!
DCM: Pleeeeese sweetheart?????
I was trying not to gag.......
DCM: Why don't YOU be a big girl and take off your shoes?
DCG: NO!
DCM (to me) Oh she's so cute when she's a sassy pants!
Me: Just go...I'll take care of it.
DCM: Oh OK then...but she sure is sassy this morning! I couldn't get her to do anything at home!
Mom leaves.
Me: DCG...take your shoes off now and go play.
DCG: K.
Takes off shoes, jumps off bench and runs off.
DCG: NO shoes off!
DCM: OK...I'll help brother (she does)

Yep. They save their worst behavior for their moms. And this mom sure wasn't helping the situation.

I love to do this in front of the parent. Then they're mad because we can get them to do what they can't.

I almost barfed at her saying it was cute. What is WRONG with people? 
Cracks me up when parents have these massive power struggles and we say one word and they not only do it but they do it happily. I have one child that won't "LET" his parents put him in short sleeves or shorts (it gets to be high 90's here and we still go outside). I always have him change before outdoor time and I receive no struggle. If they force shorts on him before coming here he is still crying and fussing that he doesn't want them on as they walk through the door and bargain with him.

I have a set of parents that ask their child's permission for everything. Then complain when dcg refuses. I totally in my head and for real after they leave.
Yesterday 5 min after they walked out my door dad was still waiting for her permission to put her in the car
When I realized they were still out there I wanted to go pick up dcg and stick her in her car seat, buckle her up and walk away

Yes, to me that is not being "responsive" to the child. It's more like abdicating your parental role to a three year old.
