Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>Still Annoyed About Family With Two NON Working Parents...
Soccermom 05:49 AM 05-07-2014
DCM texted me last night that she will be dropping off DD and DS around 11:30 this morning because they have an activity they are going to as a family at 9h30.......Seriously!? Why can't you just keep your kids at home with you and the baby since you and DCD are both NOT working and haven't been working since last September!!

These kids are the most difficult kids I have...they are so needy and infantile. DCG will be 5 in a few months and DCB will be 3...they must fall down at least 5 times a day because they aren't paying attention to what the are doing, they can't do anything for themselves, DCM brings them 4 course meals that I need to reheat and plate at lunchtime, they are loud and messy and DCB is constantly disrupting everyone's play to start a fight....sigh...

I guess I just answered my own question. I guess that is why they bring me their kids. I am mean but if they were mine, I would likely be tempted to drop them off at the sitter too LOL

End Vent....

I would be frustrated by this as well. I have one that has been dropped off 2 hours late all this week, "oh we've been letting her sleep in". Great for me at nap, right?! And dcm isn't working either. Have you considered finding replacements for these kids?

How do they pay you if they don't work?!

I would insist on cold lunches, everything ready to eat straight from the lunch bag.

I would also start looking for replacements or just term and be done with it. Aren't you the one that said you were going to be homeschooling this year? If there is anyway you can afford it, i would start terming families now so you can have a nice summer before diving into homeschooling.

I have one of those as well! DCM lives with Grandmother who is not working and will often let her sleep in, then come in like a princess and scream that she wants to stay with Grandma.

I don't know what to do with this NON working family anymore. I would love to term but I told DCM a long time ago that I would give them a spot for baby in November when DCMs Mat Leave is over (We are in a small town and there are not many DC options for families so I know she will be really upset with me if I decide not to take the baby...then I have to see her everywhere because they go to every community event and her DD is the same age as my DS) They are really good for paying on time, providing everything I ask for, etc.

I have given them the summer off free of charge just to be rid of them for a few months ...they are due to start back up in September. Being in a small town really makes providing childcare hard.

Yes I am hoping to homeschool....we are in a very small town and terming is so hard because you see these people all over the place afterwards. I want to confirm that we are going to be homeschooling for sure before I let some kids go. I did give this DCF the summer off for free since all my other DCFs are teachers and don't come during summer. We are attending a conference in a few weeks...praying DH gets fully on Board so I can move to the next chapter.

I am so stuck between a rock and a hard place right now.

This boggles my mind daily. DCM is on Mat leave and DCD is on EI...but if I was them, I would be trying to save every penny I could even if it meant risking losing a good sitter.

My door is locked at 8. There is a sign on the door that states "All children not in attendance by 8 will be considered ABSENT for the day".

Wow - am I the only one who doesn't mind when kids come late? If the parents want to let their kid sleep in, or spend more time with them, I think it's great.

Maybe I'm more lenient because I remember having to put my own son in home daycare. I would get so stressed out if I thought I was making his daycare person's life harder in any way. If I was 2 minutes late, I would have a panic attack. If I was early, I felt like I was intruding. I don't want the parents here to feel like they can't spend more time with their kids if they want to.

They do have to let me know, of course.

I want kids to nap when it is naptime. If they come in late it ruins naptime for me not to mention the meal routines.

I don't care when parents drop off either.

Provided it's at the time THEY scheduled or if late, that they let me know they are running late.

I go about my day and don't wait for anyone so if we had a walk planned, we still go either way. Same for everything else.

The ONLY time I refuse drop offs are during nap/rest time.

The naps I can understand - although whether they nap or not doesn't bother me too much, as I make sure they still have rest time. I serve meals at specific times, so if they are not there, they don't eat that meal.

Sorry, I think I'm hijacking the thread!

I tried letting kids come in late years ago, but got tired of parents coming in even after I told them to feed the kid before they come saying "johnny hasn't eaten yet". Setting an arrival time deadline just works for me, but I understand if others do not want to do that. To each their own.

I don't mind mid day drop offs either (other than naptime). I go about my day and they have to find me if we're out. If they miss snack or lunch the parents are expected to feed them before they drop them off. I never change my day for a parent so they can work around my schedule or keep them home.

No, you aren't. I honestly do not care. Notice is appreciated, and I will start texting if you are out of the norm, but kids come and go all day long here.

All of this is here, too.

I actually LIKE that some of them are often late....they are my more challenging children and a couple of hours without them here leads to me having a totally different group.

Update - DCB did not stay. They spent all morning doing a Mommy and Me activity and then she tries to hand him to me while she talks about all the places and things she is going to be doing today while little sister is in the car.... of course he wanted to stay with Mom!

Older DCG whined and clung to her leg like a 2 year old too. She did come around once she realized all the other DCKS her age were looking at her like.
As soon as Mom left she started to cry that DCB did not invite her to his birthday 2 weeks ago!!?????

Every single late or midday drop off I have ever had has turned out this way for some reason. That is likely why I hate it so much, plus let's not forget the whole point that both parents are at home enjoying the one sibling who does not come here all day while the other two kids get dropped off at the sitter.

After 22 plus years of hard knocks, there are things I do in my daycare that seem "silly" to many and, like I have stated in other posts, I am known as the daycare who is "very adamant" about their contract.....BUT anything I can do to make my day/life simpler.....HEY, let's do it!

It is not too late. Decide how you want things to be for YOU. Write them all down, then send out a letter along the lines of "Some things have been happening that are making our day more difficult than it needs to be, so I have decided to make the following changes:" Then lay out exactly what you want to happen. Give it to all parents as "contract or handbook changes" and don't single any one person out.

Same here.

My kids all nap whether they come later or not, for some reason they love sleep...except for the 2 babies.

I don't necessarily get every client who comes to interview but I just want 12 paying kids that follow my contract. One thing is for sure....after my interview there is NO pretense, clients no exactly what the rules are! I don't even mind if they like me or not, just follow my contract.
