The Montessori Method of education, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood.

It CAN be used within a daycare or family home or in a school setting.

There are lots of options for teachers to become certified in Montessori teaching but being certified isn't always necessary or required. Depending on where you are working. Many daycare's, schools and home schooling families are "inspired" or "influenced" by this method but don't always use or apply it fully as it's not always possible.

I don't know if you need to be certified to call your program a Montessori school (I would assume you would ...I'd call the state to be sure) but many programs advertise as Montessori based or inspired.

Here is a great link to what Montessori is http://www.montessori.edu/

You can incorporate Montessori principles in your daycare without doing all of them. When you have an understanding of the principles yourself, it helps in interviews to be able to talk about your program and let families know that you are educated--even if it's self-educated.
