I have a 2.5 yr old DCG who drops words while she is talking. So for example instead of saying “the cat is on the chair” she will say “a cat a chair” or “go to the window” she says “go a window”. She uses “a” to replace words she either can’t say or won’t say. At first I just repeated it back to her filling in the word. Sometimes I would get her to repeat it back to me. Nothing is really working though and I do not get any help from parents.

Is this something that any of you have seen before? Is it cause for concern at all or totally normal? I have never seen a kid do this before.

There are some TAGS that I placed at the bottom left of your post that may be helpful. Here is one for Speech Delayed:

It really does not sound too far off to me.

30 Months (2.5 Years)

Expressive Language / What the Child Says
Spoken Vocabulary Size: about 546 words

Names common objects

Names familiar actions (kiss, hug, hold, tickle)

Names familiar basic concepts (hot, cold, up, down)

Says "WHERE?"

Asks "WHY?"

Says "big", "little"

Sentences are simple declarations or descriptions of events. Child can't tell a story/narrative yet (24-36 months)

MLU (Mean Length of Utterance/Average Sentence Length)

= 2.5 words

Thank you! I wasn’t sure if it should be looked at or not because my own kids did not do this.
