I decided I had enough of a DCB 2.5 years who is very impulsive & shows signs of ADHD. I know I will terminate would like to know how much notice do you give the parent & a great term letter would be appreciated. (It’s my first btw) Tuesday he severely bit another child; yesterday he kicked me extremely hard in the knee as I carried him to time out aggressive behavior. I wrote incident reports on both of them & gave them to DCM to paper trail him out the door. I am secretly counting down for strike 3 (& he’s out).

A little vent now… Any given day he taking toys from others, hoarding, disruptive, pushing, hitting, running, etc. He shows up at 2:30pm with no nap & throws tantrums when placed in time out. Meltdowns are daily. He screams when he gets here, knowing it will wake the napping children so he can play with them. I’m exhausted & have told DCM he gets over 95% of my attention/time. I have been advising her to modify his nutrition to help him focus & make better choices. After the bit incident on Monday, he shows up on Tuesday with a sack of McD’s. At 23 yrs old, she said she doesn’t see how modifying his diet will control his attention seeking behavior. He has been here two months & really no significant improvement to his behavior overall outside of the fact he is capable of taking direction. ie: washing hands, picking up toys , gives back toy he snatches when instructed to, etc. I do not want to count down the minutes until he gets here nor count down time mom will pick him up. I’m done.

ps… I haven't been on here lately because I have to closely watch his behavior to prevent him from hurting another child.

Have you given her any kind of heads up? If it were me, I would send home a notice and have Mom sign it stating that any violent behavior warrants a pick up. 3 pickups and he is terminated effective immediately, no refunds.

I don't allow kids to hurt me/other kids. I can work on a LOT of issues, but not over the top innappropriate for their age violence.

I don't know if it's adhd as much as it is probably poor diet, lack of discipline and sleep.

If he hurts one more time,I wouldn't give a notice..immediate termination.

For two Weeks, just say dcm, this letter will serve as notice of termination of our childcare contract. The last day I will be able to provide care will be (insert date)

I talk to mom daily about his behavior & how dieting can improve it. She makes poor choices for herself & I cannot see her making any effort for his nutritional need either. She is in denial & says he doesn’t act this way at home. Untrue cause she is forever telling me her cute stories of him running all around the laundry mat etc. I told her he is in a one on one situation at home & he isn’t here. This is the first step toward group setting that he will experience throughout his schooling years. His behavior needs to be addressed now. No change.., just more cute stories.

I need to great term letter. Any suggestions?

No letter needed. A simple statement will do, like CedarCreek provided above.

It's often very difficult for parents to recognize and accept the behaviors you see as being the same as the ones they see since the home environment and child care environment are so different.

I personally would just tell mom that you are not able to provide the level of care and supervision that her child needs so you will be terminating care.

I wouldn't tell her you think anything is wrong with her child though and wouldn't suggest ADD/ADHD but just use the concept that your program is just not the type of care environment that works with his behaviors.
