When I first introduced the kids to them I had a couple 2 year olds that tried to put them in their mouth, so I only let my 3 year olds play with them.

I keep them in a plastic storage container with enough water in them to cover the beads. When I store them like that they normally last about a month because I keep adding fresh water to them to keep them hydrated.

I've used them but I read somewhere that they are highly toxic so I maintained constant supervision throughout. Just in case.

They enjoyed using them but I was a little stressed so probably won't use them again. I saw Pinterest pin once where someone used the tapioca balls used in bubble drinks but I can't find it. They have a similar texture but not as much variety in the colors.

Here are a couple other threads about these. I love them! I make glow in the dark ones and the kids LOVE them! I use them for all ages (supervised of course) and we use them outside in the splash pool. I've even used them in discovery bottles.

We use them a lot! I get mine at the dollar tree and walmart and store them in an old coffee container that I keep refreshing the water for a few weeks until they start to deteriorate and we have a squishing party The kids love them. My younger kids use them at 18mos or so but I keep a close eye and by 2 they are pros,

I have a friend who LOVES these edible ones for her daughter but I've never tried them http://www.funathomewithkids.com/201...ini-water.html

Mouthers will eat them. They will not harm them in small amounts, but you will want to watch carefully.

We do not save them beyond a week or so; they just get yucky.

The kids will "squash" them. They will also throw them around if you let them (they bounce.)

Other than that, we have a good time with them, but throw them away when they begin to stink/get dirty/kids get bored...etc.

My kids love them. I don't usually save them more than a week or two because they start to smell.

That's what I meant! Chia seeds used in bubble tea. Sorry my brain wasn't working.

I use them sometimes. My problem wasn't the mouther-with close supervision, I was able to control that. However, the darn things are slippery and they bounce, and then they are almost impossible to find--except for my mouther, who can find them after I've crawled around for 20 minutes searching.

But, they love them so much that I have decreed them an outside toy. Now, if they bounce they get lost in the grass and I don't have to worry about it.

I don't use the water beads because I only have infants and toddlers but I do use the tapioca balls. I got them at an Asian market for really cheap. Had to look up instructions for hydrating them online since the directions were not in English but the kids love them just as much as they probably would the water beads and they are edible so I don't have to worry about them eating them.

In the alternative you could always just go to Cherry Berry or Tutti Fruitti and just get those without the frozen yogurt. LOL.
