Do you send bottles home to be washed? If yes, is it a written or verbal policy?

Yes and it is verbal. Didn't think to put it in my policies.

Doh!
This was supposed to be a poll. Seeing if BC can fix it.

Fixed it!

I do not send bottles home to be washed.

I require parents to bring 2 NEW in the package bottles to me to keep and use here. I wash them myself.

No, I require two bottles to be kept at daycare at all times. It is written in my Parent Handbook along with all materials required to be kept in the cubby (change of clothes, diapers/pull ups, wipes, etc.). Some parents request to take them home on Fridays and bring them back on Monday which I'm fine with.

Parents send me some to use here I wash and keep them here.

If they send BM in a bottle I rinse and send home for them to wash and refill.

You are nicer than I am then because I no longer allow them to bring them home since they RARELY return them on Monday's....

I also ask parents to bring two or three if whatever their child uses at home to stay here. I wash them here and they don't leave my house lol

Yes and No

Formula Babies- I have them send 2-3 bottles that stay here at all times. I clean them and have them ready for the next day.

Breastfed Babies- I have them send ready to use bottles each day. I keep them in my fridge. At the end of the day, I send home any unused bottles (usually there are none) and rinsed empty bottles. They clean, refill, and return the next day.

Same here.

I wash them here.

I wouldn't love the idea of them going home and then potentially forgotten everyday!

I don't send sippys or other eating utensils home for parents to wash either. Honestly the concept seems a little strange to me. For those that do send bottles home if you'd be willing to offer your reasons why I'd like to learn the other side of this coin!

Me too! I think sending them home (and hoping they are returned) is just one extra thing I don't want to have to think about.

I voted no but really it depends on whether or not they provide me with bottles to keep here. If they do leave bottles here then I will wash them myself. If they don't leave bottles here then I will rinse them and send them home at the end of the day. I do it this way because I normally do one full dishwasher load in the evening after daycare is done and after we all have dinner so I don't want to have to wash dishes/bottles during the day by hand and there's no way that I could do a full load of dishwasher dishes before the end of the DC day (I wouldn't have enough dishes yet to fill a full load) and have them be ready and dry by the time I closed at 6pm.

Bottles stay here and I wash, that way I know I have some! I did have a couple times where the parent had to stay in town late (they lived 25 min away) and they didn't bring a bottle. Then I did send 1 with them, but they had another one here just in case they forgot to bring it back the next day.

I prefer to just have parents leave me 2 bottles to keep here. If they do that, I wash them myself. If a parent prefers to prepare bottles and bring them daily, then they wash them at home.

I require 4 bottles and a canister of formula to be kept here.

I keep the bottles here, and wash them. But, I have had parents who preferred to take them home each day, and fill them at home as well.

I have also switched bottles here...so, if one bottle isn't working, i'll try another kind, so we don't have the issues here. Occasionally the parents will also switch, but usually they just muddle through.

When I first started out I had multiple infants on bottles. Some had the same brand/nipple sizes. The labels on the bottles wash off, the nipples could easily get mixed up, etc. It also became a storage issue. I DO supply one brand of bottle that I keep here (and would wash myself), but most of the moms have chosen to use their own. Also most of the moms had EBM, so it was easier to send the bottles home for them to wash and refill.
I also have parents supply infant foods because, although I do have some food on hand per the food program rules, the parents prefer to send in their own. Now, I don't allow them to send in food for older children (I might make an exception for an allergy) but again, it's easier than having my cupboards filled with multiple jars of baby foods.
No one has ever questioned it.

Depends. If it is breast milk or if the parents make their bottles then I send them home to wash. If I am making the bottles, then I wash as they stay here.

No because I'm always paranoid they'll forget and I"ll be SOL with no way to feed a baby. Same thing with pacifiers - they need to keep one with me if their child uses them.

That's how I would do things if I took infants.

Oh and if a child walks in with a sippy cup, I put it in their bag unwashed. I guess if it came from home it returns home to be washed. If it is mine or stays here, I wash it.

Yes and no-there wasn't an option for that. I only have one child, besides my own that has bottles. The mom brings it everyday (only 1) sometimes I wash it and sometimes I don't.

We don't use bottles here. I only take children 11-12 months and up. By then, I have them use a sippy cup. I supply and wash all sippys. I could never trust my parents to return anything I sent home and needed back

Mine depends on what kind of bottles.

The small bottles that mom's send breastmilk in (like the medela ones) I send home to be washed, mainly because I found moms were washing them anyway before pumping.

Regular bottles I just keep and wash bottles.

Mine all leave 1 or 2 bottles here. I wash them.

I supply my own bottles and keep them here. If parent choses to send in bottle it will stay here. I do receive BM in bottles containers but with flat tops. Those I rinse and return daily. I have on occasion sent home with bottle and bottles are never returned. I try my hardest to never send home with one.

Any "dishes" that come here are rinsed, but not washed. As for bottles, they must bring enough for the whole day... I won't wash and reuse. (But I don't take infants anymore, so it's a moot point.)

It took me a minute to realize, that in this case, BM stood for 'breast milk'. I thought it stood for something else for a minute.

My parent already has the breastmilk in the bottles for me each day. I wash them and send them home. I don't know if they rewash or not but I don't feel right not washing them plus I don't mind.

Our center sends them home and the parents bring them back already made. For a long time we were not allowed to make the bottles (per regulations), so it had to be done that way. We just never changed after the regulations did.

I HATE dishes! Especially bottles and sippy cups (which I also send home daily). I have a few extra, just in case. The only things I wash are the things I provide: Plates, bowls, spoons, forks, and regular cups. I wash mine, they wash theirs

I require them to bring bottles to stay here and put it in my handbook after one of the parents forgot the bottles at home and I argued me down that they put the insulated bag with the diaper bag. I had to pack everyone up and go to the store and buy bottles and formula because baby was hungry and not happy. Now they have to bring bottles and formula to leave here. And yes I made the parents pay me back.
