I don't have this in my contract, although I will definitely be adding this when I update my contract next time. I have told all of the parents that I prefer them to not pick up during nap time because other kids will wake up.

Dcm will be picking up dcb tmrw at 1:30 during nap time for a Dr's appt. All of the daycare kids sleep in the same room, but if I let this particular dcb sleep in the room tmrw and then go in to wake him up for his appt, then all the other kids will wake up.

But there's not really another room for him to sleep. I could bring the crib in the living room, but it's really bright in there even with the curtains shut.

Should I keep him up or try to put him to sleep in the living room? He will not be a happy camper when I wake him up early. He's mad even when he gets a full nap!!

What time do naps start? Will he return after or stay home?

Generally if pick up is more than halfway through nap I lay them down but if not I keep them up. I also have them ready to go by the door when Mom/Dad come in, and greet Mom/Dad with "Shhh, everyone else is still sleeping."

I would insist on pickup before nap.

Nap time is 12:30-2:30 and she's not sure if she is bringing him back or not, but she will have to come back to pick up other dck. Since she's picking up right in the middle, I will probably just try to keep him up. I kinda hope he's cranky for her at the appointment so she won't pick up during nap time again hahaha! (Kidding, kinda )

I wish I would have thought about this when she told me because I think she gets off work every Friday at 12:00. Maybe I should mention it to her at drop off tmrw! They never pick up their kids before they have to, though. They pay me, so it's none of my business, but it's true!

I stopped allowing it unless it was something that is 100%avoidable.

Doc appointments nope get here before we lay down or wait until nap time is over. Of course if you show up I have to give you your child but I will also give you your walking papers.

I work 10.5 hour days and nap time is my break and the children's break too. We all deserve it.

I do not allow for nap time pick up.

If for some reason it has to occur. I require the parent to text me when they are out front, I carry their child out the back door so not to wake the other kids.

I would absolutely say since the child isn't being picked up within the first 15 minutes of nap you cannot keep him up and waking him up that far into nap time will cause all the other children to wake up. He will need to be picked up no later than 15 minutes into the nap period and will be waiting for her by his cubby with his shoes on ready to go.

Then, text her 5 minutes before nap that the child is ready to roll, is reading a book, and already has their belongings together and their shoes on.

In my case so far whenever a parent says they're picking up early it never happens. I would put him down for his nap as usual and if she shows up quietly grab him out of the room.

I would have mom pick up before everyone lies down. And I would give a buffer because she might be late. Our nap time starts at 12:30 so I would have her pick up at 12.

Also, I only allow 1 pick up/drop off per family per day so she would be taking both of the children and they would not be returning.

I find even mid-day pick ups can be disruptive so I would have the kids dressed and ready for 12 and meet dcm outside when she comes.

I would just tell dcm at drop off that after thinking about it, in order to minimize disruptions, this is what you need to do and tell her ..... whatever it is.

Mom should pick up after she is off work BEFORE nap time and that's that.

No issues for DCB and no issues for you or the other kids.

I am not understanding why mom is making any of this your problem?

Why is DCB going to the Dr?

Why does she need to bring him back after if she's off work?

I have one kiddo who gets picked up during nap time (after he has been sleeping for about an hour). I don't want other kids waking up, but for moms schedule, waiting to pick him up doesn't work. We worked it out to where she texts me when she pulls up, I go grab him out of his porta crib and walk him straight to the door where she is waiting outside. No knocking. No ringing the door bell. And dcb is still half asleep so isn't making any noise. I haven't had one issue so far and we've been doing it for months.

I try to work with parents as much as possible. If mom would have insisted something like no naps for him or asked me to keep him up on those specific days, I would have said no (because nap time is ME time lol). This works for us though

I prefer not to have kids picked up at nap time, but sometimes it cannot be helped.

So I have the parent text me when they are in the driveway and I take the child out to the car. It's the quickest and quietest way.

That's what I was thinking! If mom is off at noon, she can pick both kids up at 12:15 and begin their weekend early. Then their is no issue or disruption to you and all your other kids.

Dcb is just going for a checkup today. I have no idea why she wants to bring him back or why she wouldn't just pick up her other kid at the same time. (Well her other kid is a handful, so I guess I understand that part haha!) I'm not trying to judge, and they pay me so I shouldn't complain, but these kids spend more time with me and with grandma than with the parents. When my kid was is daycare, if I ever got off work early, I couldn't get to him fast enough. I drove straight to the daycare to pick him up. If I got off work at 12 every Friday like she does, I would absolutely come pick my kids up early because I would miss them like crazy. But having my own daycare has made me realize that not all parents are like that :-(

I can never understand why parents don't want to spend time with their kids either, but then, as a kid, I always got the impression that my parents had other things that were more important, so it's very common I guess. Fine with me. The less time parents want to spend with their kids, the more daycare work there is for those who want to spend time with them.

I posted on another thread about one family I babysat for long ago. When the father got home from work, they would have supper and immediately send the kids to me if I was available so they could go out for the night. I was pretty much always available. I didn't even think of it as work. I would work all day, then go home to spend the evening with 3 kids that I loved. For about 4 years. I usually had them on weekends and brought them to church with me too.

If they have a dr appointment or emergency I pick child up off cot, and deliver to parent on my front step. I put children down for nap regardless. Even if its just 15min. I don't change my routine at all.

I have a new DCF who is really great, but wanted to pick up during nap yesterday. Luckily they were understanding when I explained how waking up 8 kiddos early makes for 16 grumpy parents

Oh, don't get me wrong... I don't care if parents use care when they aren't working. It's not my journey to make so I never judge for that....

I was just wondering why this parent didn't put two and two together and realize that picking up in the middle of nap would be disruptive to the other kids' rest time....

I assumed she made the appointment at the time she did because she knew she was off work and could manage it so it just seemed odd to me that she would even want to bring him back and that the nap time pickup would work for you...

I guess I shouldnt be surprised though as it's a rare parent that realizes we accommodate multiple families/kids/schedules every day and an even rarer parent that understand it.

Oh, and I asked about why he had a Dr appointment because I don't allow multiple pick ups and drop offs but I especially don't allow kids to see a Dr for illness or immunizations and then return right back to care.

I'm so sorry if my response came off rude! I didn't mean it like that at all. I 100% agree with you and I was wondering the exact same things! I'm just irritated with the parents for not respecting my time and the other kids' naps. These parents are kinda "out there" and definitely don't put 2 and 2 together haha!

I go over this at interview- schedule appts later in the day. You can pick up early, and it doesn't disrupt rest time (or the general flow of the day) in addition, I only allow one pickup and one drop off per day, per FAMILY. So she would be taking BOTH kids with her BEFORE rest time. If they say "I am picking up Jr tomorrow at 1:30" I say "That doesn't work for me. you may pick up Jr and Susie right after lunch at 12:30."
