Angry Did I Do The Right Thing?

My daughter is currently 3 years old. She turns 4 on 7/21/14. She recently told me that her friends moved up into other classrooms. She is currently in the Monkey room which is the younger 3 year olds. The barnyard is for older 3's and the Kangaroos are for pre-k 4. I recently had to fill out a form if she was going to be there in August for Pre-K 4. I had to let them know that she no longer would be there since we are putting her in an actual Pre-K 4 head start type of program. So basically right now, since all of her friends moved up, she is in a room with 2 year olds. I love her two teachers, but I want my daughter to be ready for pre-k and kindergarten. Back up to August of last year, her friends again moved up and they left her in the Monkey room. She has been stuck twice so far. I talked with the assistant director this morning and she explained that they didn't want her to have to become adjusted twice (new teacher now and two months from now a new teacher at a new school) I completely understand this. I worked in a daycare center for 5 years previously and I know the ins and outs. She did apologize and stated that maybe they should have spoken with us first and we made a collective decision. I think this would have been best. I want my daughter to be with her friends but more than that, I want her to be taught on the correct level for her age. I also spoke with the teacher this morning to find out more details before I spoke with the director and she explained that my daughter was doing very well and finally being the leader they always wanted her to be. I think that is GREAT however, I want her to want to be a leader and not be forced to be one, if that makes sense. The director did admit that she should be in the kangaroos, and that they would move her to either the Barnyard or the Kangaroos, I told them to let my daughter pick where she wanted to go. I hate confrontation but I just wanted to see what some other opinions where...did I do the right thing? I know it’s only for 2 and half months but I have seen some regression at home in her behavior and I just want what is best for her, but twice becoming acclimated to certain children and then twice them being taken away from her is kind of defeating the purpose of he "getting readjusted". I just hope that I did the right thing for her......

Sounds to me like you did. Since she is in a center with age divided rooms then she should have been moved with her age.

I agree, they should have moved her with everyone else and you did the right things advocating for your daughter. Is it a ratio thing? Like maybe they know you're leaving in August so they filled her spot for the summer in the class for next Fall instead of keeping her spot through the summer in that class?

I think you did the right thing. As you well know, there is no perfect ideal situations with daycare and schooling all the time. The best we can do as parents is to stay informed and sometimes we end up just choosing the "lesser of two evils". I am sure your daughter will be just fine. Kids are very resilient.

I was going to say that op did the right decision and kids are resilient. I would want my child with peers of her own age.

Thanks Guys, She was moved to the kangeroo room this morning and the director called me back, she was very short with me but said that my daughter was doing great. I hope the next 2 and a half months are not awkward. I hate confrotation but I had to do what was best for her. I kind of felt like they were punishing her for my decision to put her in a different/better pre-k program. Hopefully all will be fine and I will certaintly miss her old teachers, I think that is the worst part, and the fact that I am stuck at work and I can’t talk to my daughter right away….

i believe you did! This age is very important in getting children to learn appropriate behavior and your daughter shouldn't stay in a classroom with younger children, she needs to progress forward
