Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>Advice: Up high, or down low?

I bought an 8' x 4.5' chalkboard over the weekend at a scrapbook store that closed down. They used it as a huge calendar, so it has the grid already made out using tape. It uses the chalk markers and is magnetic.

Here's my dilemma: Do I post it up high on a wall and use it for a calendar for the kids and parents, or do I hang it up lower on the wall at their level so they can use it too? I have 8' ceilings, I think, in case that matters any.

I vote high.

I'd use it as a parent board if I had it here. Or to teach calendar to the kids.

I prefer low so the kids can play- but if its something you want just for you then put it high- it's all up to how you want to utilize it

who is it for? I have on that I bought from hobby lobby that is for the parents and it is up high. I started it on the sign in out table but the kids would come and swipe the letters off.

I have a different one for the kids......they don't get to use the chalk markers they are super expensive.....

I have had one low, and I LOVED allowing the kids to play on it - however it/they create a TON of chalk dust. And they would always rub up against it and their clothing would be covered in chalk dust.

I experienced the same problems. I'd hang it high.

I have a huge chalkboard from floor to about 3 feet high for my kids to play with. I love it! It does create a little dust, but I have a rug in front of it and that helps.

I love giving kids tons of different mediums to create with, and chalk is a very important one! Great fine motor control learning to hold it steady.

We use chalk all the time ... OUTSIDE on sidewalks. Chalk inside would be for me only.

You can buy dustless chalk.

Yep, this is my experience with chalk boards. Our chalk play now is pretty much strictly outside.
