Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>Pregnancy and Daycare...How Do You Do It?

I am currently 5 weeks pregnant so barely getting started and am already finding myself feeling many, many pregnancy symptoms. I have been super emotional and feeling down in the dumps for about 2 weeks now. I am super fatigued to the point that I feel the need to rest within an hour of getting out of bed. For the last 5 days I have been super nauseated and have had really bad diarrhea. I am just having an over all hard time trying to keep up with the daycare and all of it’s demands, the cleaning around my home and my own family. How do you balance being ill with a pregnancy and the daycare/your own family?

I was pregnant twice while running my daycare and fortunately I was just very tired in the beginning, but never had the nausea. That would be very rough. Hopefully the nausea will subside soon! Do you have a helper or someone who can come help you out for the time being?

I sipped on lemonade all day to curb the nausea. And held my breath whenever I went near something that smelled. Like garbage, food, diapers, etc. Luckily I had infants when I was pregnant so they stayed where I put them and didn't make a mess. We could cuddle up on the couch

Vitamin B6 and ginger will help with the nausea. I'd also suck on lemonheads. I get extremely nauseous every time I am pregnant. The world feels like it won't stand still and those are the only things that slightly helped.

At this time I don't have anyone to come in that could help me. I'm also not planning on telling any of my families until February when my next quarterly newsletter goes out. That's hard too though because I have been getting a little behind on my cleaning lately and I'm sure I look slightly run down and I wonder what parent's might be thinking? I am going to try the lemonade idea and I have heard of ginger also but how do you take/eat ginger?

Although I never really had the nausea I did have the fatigue for the first tri-mester and of course the roller coaster of emotions during the whole thing (I cried when I dropped a pancake once ). For the fatigue I would open up windows in the house to keep it nice and crisp inside to keep me energized and awake, I would also keep moving. The moment I sat down to relax I would start feeling super tired so I kept myself busy with little things here and there. Make sure you eat enough so that you don't make the fatugue worse.

The prenatals should help with your diarhea but for now drink lots of water to stay hydrated.

For the nausea I there was a few things that worked for me... sucking on frozen grapes, snacking on grapes (unfrozen), snacking on crackers, sipping on sprite.

Hang in there.

I had extremely bad morning sickness to the point where I would be hospitalized for a week at a time for dehydration. I tried a variety of prescribed meds: Diclectin, Gravol, Zantac, and only Zofran (a drug normally given to cancer patients) helped - however it's about $40/pill!

I was seen by a specialist and told:
Prenatal vitamins can make it worse (I'm not saying to stop them! just preparing you that if you get really bad your doc might), try salty food, eat what appeals to you, don't let yourself get hungry, ginger, citrus & watermelon might help, drink lots, fatigue will make the nausea much worse.

You have to rest even if it means cutting back on housework/work otherwise you could end up unable to work at all.

I was fine the minute I delivered

If you belong to a church/ladies group see if people can make meals for you/your family.

And congratulations!!

Oh that's the other thing. If you're taking your prenatals in the morning try taking them in the eveninf before bed. Worked wonders for me

I am five months in, and thankfully I have experienced no morning sickness - no vomitting anyhow - occasional nausea but gingerale or ginger tea cures it immediately! Diarhea... that's another story! I am also on a few different medications (high risk pregnancy) which adds to the tummy troubles.

I was completely and utterly exhausted from day one until about 12 weeks. Aside from the usual exhaustion from carrying/growing a baby I haven't been sleeping well at all since the beginning.

My energy has been back up since week 12-13, but between having to get up and pee at LEAST 5 times a night (yes, even early on), crazy lucid pregnancy dreams and just not being able to get comfortable... it can be tough. I have no troubles sleeping during the day though, of course! Today I am totally wiped - I slept for manybe a total of 1.5 hours lastnight. I have been washing walls and disinfecting toys all day to keep myself going - I am going to have to have a little nap after work though for sure.

On weekends I cat nap throughout the day and once, sometimes twice a week my hubby is home during naptime and I can have a nice quiet 2 hour siesta while the kiddos are napping!

My husband has been an incredible help. He's always helped around the house, helped run the daycare, etc - but since I've been pregnant he's been doing probably 85% of the household chores and almost all the laundry. I still do the brunt of the cooking (even though he's also a great cook!) and do do more in/for the daycare right now - but after baby comes, he will be home running the daycare for at least 6 months. Having him help without me even having to ask is just awesome. As soon as he gets home from work he checks to see what needs to be done before he settles in and relaxes for the night. He's a real blessing!

I'd enlist hubby in helping out around the house to keep on top of chores. Also, maybe a friend, sister or mom could come by and help out once in awhile? If not with daycare, at least just to help tidy/keep you company while tidying. If I didn't have my amazing hubby, I know I could count on my best friend to help out when she's available!

Congrats on your pregnancy

Congratulations!! How exciting!

I'm 16 weeks and found that weeks 6-14 were the worst. I had horrible nausea and some vomiting, feeling EXHAUSTED and bad headaches. Ugh!

I tried taking my prenatal vitamins in the evening (although I was nauseous in the evening too) but it helped me to not actual vomit. I really didn't want to tell my daycare parents until after Christmas so I really had to pull myself together which was supper hard! I even threw up 2 times and nearly got caught- once as a DCD was shutting the door after drop off and another time as a DCM was opening door to drop off (threw up in the kitchen sink..YUCK!).
It's hard but you WILL get through it and you will start to feel better soon!

I have some headaches now but I'm not nearly as tired through the day (although at night I hit the sack pretty early) and nausea has seemed to disappear.

I was in the same boat - cleaning and keeping organized became sparse but don't worry, the parents don't know! They are probably so used to their kid coming to you that they don't even really look around anymore.
I thought the same thing but then when I finally told my DCP because I was starting to show sooner then I thought they said they didn't notice a thing, lol.
I was nervous telling my daycare parents because I didn't want them to leave too early. I am unable to get mat leave until January so feared they would take off. My DCP have been great and have all made comments that they won't look for another daycare until the new year so I'm safe

Hang in there. It does get easier. You will still be tired at the end of the day but you will at least be able to pull through.

Good luck and congrats again

I bought ginger candy from Kroger in the natural aisle. There's a lot of different options out there!

I wrote an identical post around this time last year!

My nausea got to the point where I asked my Dr. for some medication. I ended up on Zofran. That stuff works wonders!!!

Some other tips:

Eat saltines and drink ginger ale in small amounts all day long.

Open the windows, or at least one window (yes, even if it's cold) and breathe in the fresh air. It really does help.

Preggie drops or preggie pops candy

Motion sickness bands

Take Flintstones vitamins instead of prenatals

Let some things go. Take it easy in the DC for a few weeks, until the worst of the early fatigue passes. Ease up on the house cleaning or get your family members to help, and take a 30 minute nap every evening after the DC closes.

Congratulations to you!!!!
