Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>Questions about 2 week notice
MKW10 05:31 AM 07-09-2012
Hello! I am a daycare provider and have a quick question. I ask my families to give me 2 weeks notice when pulling their child out of daycare. Last week, I had one family give me 2 weeks notice on a Tuesday. They are a full time family. So they obviously have to pay for care this week, but my question is about next week. I don't do a daily rate with them, it's weekly only. So because they gave me notice on a Tuesday, do I do a daily rate for the Monday and Tuesday of next week, or do the regular weekly rate because thats what our contract says.

Go by what your contract states. They pay by the week.

Are they going to be there for all of next week, or are they really leaving in the middle of a week?

Something to think about in the future, but add a clause to your contract stating that two week notices to leave care should be turned in on Fridays.

If you charge a weekly rate, it will eliminate the issue you are currently having.

As far as this situation, I would be inclined to break down their weekly rate into a daily rate so they are still charge two FULL weeks (10 business days) of care since their "weeks" will technically be Tues to Tues....kwim?

You could also talk with them to see if this can worked out together with a compromise so everyone is happy....depending on whether or not they are leaving on good terms or not.

You should require that notice be given on Fridays only. I am paid monthly, on the first of each month - thusly, I require one calendar month's notice. For example, a parent may only give ntoice to terminate for May on the last day of March; to terminate for January, notice must be given the last day of November.

I guess they wanted Tuesday to be there last day. But my thoughts are, the contract states weekly rate, not daily rate. And we have never done a daily rate. So I just don't know what to do.

just give them one daily rate....its just one day and they are out the door soon anyway. then revise your contract to say that two weeks notice can only be given on a Friday....so the last two weeks are a full two weeks pay, monday to friday

they'd pay for the week here. Payments here are due on Friday, weekly, don't do daily rates. So if I have it right - client pays for the following week on say Fri. 7/6 (no clue they are leaving at this point). Then comes in on Tues. 7/10 and says they are giving 2 weeks notice, last day Tues. 7/24. So on 7/13 they pay for following week, and on 7/20 they pay for the week after that. I don't care if they are going to leave on the 24th or the 27th (fri). They gave me 2 weeks notice - they therefore then pay for TWO more weeks.
