I have people coming to my house tomorrow to do an assessment on one of my dck. It's the first time I've done this, and I wondered if they would think I was over-reacting or out of line if I asked for ID before they came in. I will only have 2 kids tomorrow, siblings.

I would absolutely ask for ID. I require ID anytime I have not met an adult, no matter what their reason for being on my property. Plumbers, electricians, even the dad of one set of kids that I didn't meet for the first 6 months they were here.

I ask for ID, write down a drivers license # and full name, and have them sign it for that child's file

They should also be wearing I.D. for whoever they work for our infant toddler program is run be health and welfare and are always supposed to wear them.

Great information. My brain told me to do it-I don't ever let anyone in without checking ID, even emergency pick-ups. But, I think I let the idea intimidate me into over ruling my confidence.

Thanks for the back up.

Absolutely not out of line, you are doing what is right for your safety and the children. Even when someone from state, Health inspectors or maintenance comes, they must always provide ID. The same is true for someone other than the authorizes individuals on our forms to pick up the child, parent must inform us and said individual must provide ID and sign the copy we keep for our files.

You're doing your job and most would understand and comply!

I would and did once! Years ago I had a girl who was a foster in the process of being adopted. DYFS came and we knew she was coming. the street in front of our house was closed so she had to walk around the block. we made her go back and get her ID. she was annoyed, but should have known to bring it! We at her when she walked back to get it! With my luck, she was testing me!

Don't just ask for ID, make a copy of it, or take a photo of it for your records.
