Do any of you have surveillance cameras or nanny cams in your daycare area? Not for the parents, but to basically cover your own butt.

I had someone in the past that tried to insinuate that my husband was a child molester to a friend because he was busy running errands all day. "You know what they say about busy people ..." That they get a lot accomplished!?!
Yes, it made absolutely no sense. After that (and after they were GONE), I thought long and hard about getting some but it slipped my mind until now.

If you do, can you link me to it please? I would like to seriously look into it now.

Neat! How would you ensure that it was all recorded permanently?

not too sure. I got it because I want to be able to see the kids no mater where I go. I can load this to my phone and it will be portable. I just hired an asst, so I wanted to make sure that this helped me keep an eye on the asst as well...

but how do you hook it up, I think we would need wireless. I was thinking of getting a babymonitor one so when I'm in the kitchen I can still see the kids (even thou everything is on the main floor there are still walls that can be colored)

I've had one ever since I opened 20 years ago. We've been through a few of them, only because my husband is a gadget type of guy and upgrades every chance he gets.

The last one we had was this one...

We no longer have it only because my husband has since upgraded again, and I have no idea what we have now, so I will have to ask.

I will say the one in the link above was wonderful and no issues. I've had full systems as low as $500.00 on up to the thousands, and the cheapest ones did just what I needed.

I could never live without one because we have had one for so long, I would be lost without it. My cameras show the entire perimeter of my home, comings and goings, and the daycare room. Only once in the 20 years that I have had it, did I have to remind a parent that a situation that she caused was recorded.

I highly recommend anyone doing daycare to have a surveillance system if they could.

do you allow for your parents to view previously recorded days if they ask?
I am worried that the parents will want to request this and there is non way I am going to sit and record this stuff for parents. I already wear to many hats, plus I would think that there would be some law against this since there would be other children present in the video???

My question is, what your accused of doing something during diaper changes or a parent says that you must abusing a child out of the range of the camera...ie the restroom? Do you put one in the rest room?

That's a good question! Almost makes me not want to have a door on the restroom.

I have never been asked by the parents to view any recordings. I think just having the cameras in place helps the parents feel at ease with me. However, if a situation occurred that was serious enough for a parent to want to view the tapes, I would only allow them to be viewed with a court order.

No cameras in the bathroom. The daycare room is the only room in my house used by the children, and the bathroom is right off the daycare room. I don't allow my bathroom door to be closed with the children in there, but where my bathroom is, in the corner of the room, no one can see the toileting area. My camera can see who enters and exits the bathroom though.

I don't take children in diapers, but when I did, my changing table was in the daycare room, next to the bathroom door, so that was viewable by the camera too.

Funny how I just read this today! Mine is getting installed right now! I have no idea what it is because is was all my husbands doing. The footage will be recorded and saved and I can back track if I ever need anything. My question is should I tell the parents? Have them sign something? They will know of course because they can see the cameras. I will have one in the front play room; one facing the dramatic play area, front door, and art area; one in the infant nap room catching everything but the changing table; and one facing the dining area but without catching the bathroom. It was all my fiance's idea. I think we paid 200 for 4 cameras? I have no clue how much he is paying his friend to install it. I really like how I can sign into my phone too check out whats going on. So later down the road when I have an assistant I can see whats going on.
