SO ANNOYING!!! Uhg. I have this one young dcm who is really very nice. He son has only been with me about 5-6 weeks now. She generally stays at pick up and drop off for at least 15 minutes just kind of playing around with her son. Not really talking about his day or anything. Just making him giggle and stuff. Today she met us while we were playing outside and when we got inside she was VERY obvious about recognizing his bug bites. Pointed out new ones and old ones and where ones had been but weren't any more. I don't think she really means any thing by it but its just annoying. I had every one sign a sun screen and bug spray form about a month ago and mentioned that they should still expect bug bites (mosquito's are HORRIBLE in MD and this year they're HUGE.) but I just don't know what else to say. I think I said "tis the season!". We go outside at least twice a day. I felt like saying "If you would like to buy him a bubble he might be able to get through the season bite free"

I spray my kids every time we go out and sometimes while we're out and all of them have been going home bitten up. If you don't want your kid to have bug bites keep him home on the days we're going outside... which is every day!

Exactly!!!! I spray everyone EVERY time we go out and while it helps, its realistically unavoidable. This is MD. Its been wet. We're already in marsh land... Its just ridiculous to have an issue with it.

So interesting that it depends on where you live. I never spray my kids with bug spray and they are NEVER bitten.

That would be really, really irritating. I'd likely ignore it completely.

I wish! We used that at a cookout on the 4th and the mosquitos just laughed at it. I'm making a trip this weekend to get some 100% deet. (98.11% to be exact) I really wish the state would continue to spray for bugs at night like they do in Florida. Summers were so much more enjoyable when they did that.

OP, I know this is a spin off question of your main point so just ignore it if you'd like. But, why do you let the mom hang around so long??? That seems like way too long to me. I would expect parents to want to get home right away, not hang around at the daycare house. And if she picked up outside, why would she follow you into the house? That's the perfect time to give her the slip, not invite her in! lol

I was counting bug bites of my princess dcg per dcm's request until she came here COVERED in bites after a baseball game.

It's HUMID and rainy and has been for a month, there is standing water EVERYWHERE. How am I supposed to stop BUGS? What's next, no acts of God on my watch either?

I got so sick of the bugs this year, my yard is awful, so I went on amazon and found this stuff called talstar pro, it is an insecticide so not for the environmentalist, I tried the cutter backyard spray which did good for 4 days, but so far the talstar has been working for 2 straight weeks, In 2 weeks I have gone from emptying bottles of bug spray, to not using any, it has been so nice, online it says one application lasts 3 months, but most people wrote the did it 1 per month, so If I can get another 2 weeks out of this stuff, well I love it.

Hi I'm new here I am located in NC we have bugs too. But I'll bet some of the bites are from home outdoor play. I had one little girl and the mosquitos bit her everyday no one else but her. Anyway I guess she attracted them. So I started putting long sleeves and pants on her for the same reason you are annoyed. They still bit her face an hands! *** but her legs and arms healed completely and one Monday morning she came in covered in bites on legs and arms and daddy had to fess up because I knew they were not coming from my house.

All his stuff was in the house and I use Checkinkids.com so she needed to sign him out on my laptop which was outside. She had picked him up a half hour early so I wasn't expecting to still be outside when she got there. So strange though, its like she doesn't know what to do at pick up or drop off. She will literally just sit there and try to make him laugh, or make weird comments about his attitude for the day ( this is my infant that always yells NO because its his mom's favorite word). She also commented yesterday that he has been a lot "mouthier" since he started here and he must be picking up bad habits. Then she proceeded to tease him when he was clearly upset and she thought it was funny. Very strange. All I could say was " aww, say momma no picking on me!" Yea, clearly he's expressing frustration because he's here, and not because she taunts him

Check out Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard plus Picaridin. It works great and is safe for babies. Mosquitos are drawn to me for some reason. My husband and kids can be out with me and I'm the only one that ends up covered in bites, even though we all have on bug spray with deet. It's not cheap, so I'd ask the mom to buy it for the baby. Hey, it's worth a try. I usually buy it on Amazon, but if you know an Avon rep you could order it that way.
