(Please refrain from commenting unless its supportive of the actual vent at hand. i am not judging or being rude simply venting in a place where even those who call out the vents, vent themselves from time to time.)

With that said i had a DCM drop her kid off today and say, "there is a sock situation. He didnt come home with the socks on yesterday that i sent him with. That cant happen again, i cant keep going out and buying socks."
Um okay im pretty sure they are around here somewhere though i cannot find them. But seriously he did go home with socks either way. The problem is that his shoes are way to small for his feet, how expensive are socks anyway, i have had this boy since May and as far as i know he has never gone home without socks, you never have any late fees, and you save 100$ a month on childcare for using my daycare in the first place.... but of course im not going to say any of that, ill probably just give her a extra pair of our socks we have here. Cause we actually have a lot.

totally going through the same thing, I tell them that Jr. probably stashed them somewhere and Jr. will be helping me find them tomorrow.
Somedays I just take all their shoes and socks, place them in their cubbies in the morning so I don't have to deal with them.

I hate socks so much!

In my perfect world, they would all wear crocs every day. Because looking for socks and shoes at the end of the day is a pain in the neck.

What I DO, do that helps a little, but not completely. Is, I have a plastic bin. WHen the kids get here, they can take their shoes and socks off, (socks go inside shoes) and they stay in the bin all day unless we need them. The bin stays on my kitchen counter, so the toddlers can't just rifle through it.

But, since it's cold there, maybe you could buy a bunch of inexpensive matching socks to put on the kids when they get there, and pull them off at 4:00 to put their own socks back on them.

I find socks in weird places all the time.... even years later.

BTW, jackets drive me nuts too.... it's cold in the morning, so they'll come over in a sweatshirt, then it's hot in the afternoon, so nobody remembers it on the way out, so in March, I have a box of random sweaters and jackets that I try to pawn off on the parents. "Is this hers?" "I've never seen that". I donate a lot of sweaters in the spring.

I take shoes and socks off and put them in their cubbies where they stay until it's time to get ready for home.

I have a 3 yo who's ALWAYS taking her socks off and losing them. I'll be buying her a cheap pair of slippers this weekend.

I have the same problem. Today I sent a kid home with his shoes on, but only one foot had a sock on it. Surprise when they get home! The kids DO stash them in places!

check the under/between the couch cushions.... I find them there all the time!

Sorry you had to go through that, Dave. People suck sometimes...

Sorry she had to be such a jerk about it! That stinks.

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one with problems finding socks at the end of the day! I felt really bad about that for awhile but have the lost sock issue mostly solved right now.

I even lost a dcg's shoes once...sent her home with an outgrown pair of DD's. Found the shoes over the weekend...under DD's bed dcg is not allowed *in* DD's room and everyone was mystified about how they got there.

I hate socks.

Not sure how old your dcb is, but my response to lost socks is (smiling sweetly) "Well if Johnny *looking directly at Johnny* had put them in his shoes/in the basket/on the counter (whatever your solution is) when he took them off like he is asked EVERY SINGLE DAY we would know where they are"

I hate when parents are condescending like that, I would simply suggest to mom that she keep a pair of slippers at your house to change dcb into when she arrives (socks go in the cubby) That way socks are her responsibility.

I have one dcm (who I love so much!) brought a 10 pack of socks last week. All white. She said don't worry about socks this winter, at least if she looses one, she will always have a pair!

Don't you wish all parents could think that way.

Hang in there!

I found about five socks behind my TV cabinet last year...and I had all SA's! It doesn't go away when they get older!

I would be crabby too if someone treated me like a child. I hate socks. A few of the kids are getting better about putting there socks with there shoes when they take them off. I have 2 year olds now that when they deside to take there socks off they go put them with there shoes in cubbies. It is the real little ones that I have a problem with. They just seem to fall off of there feet. I send them home in some of ours, but most never bring them back. Then the next time I can't find there socks I put on the last pair that I couldn't find before pick up. I know I've appologized about not being able to find socks and most parents could careless. Most feel I have better things to do than search for missing socks. My time spent doing trival things takes away from the group. Not that I don't look or try to find them, but really sometimes they could be anywhere. If he is 3 I'd start teaching him to put his socks away if he is the one pulling them off.

Good advice and what a sweet DCM. I have some families that make sure to send everything there kid needs with out asking and other that you have to hound to get the bare essentals.

My daughter loses socks constantly in our house. I do the laundry and half her socks don't have a mate! I am sorry that this mom is giving you grief about socks. Kid stash socks in the wierdest places when they take them off and they seem to do it the moment you turn your back. You would think a mom would know that. Maybe you can just confiscate this child's socks as soon as mom leaves just to avoid being irritated by her condescending attitude.

On an opposite note, I have noticed that one family I have does not have any concerns about socks. Dcb's socks never match and usually one is on inside out.

He had a bad case of diaper rash too (she said nothing about at all), of obviously i know where her real concern is

Wow, rude.

I would make DCB take off his socks in front of Mom every morning. If she says anything let her know that this is the only way you can ensure that the child's socks are never, ever misplaced. That's what she wants, afterall.

I hate the sock issue! My little ones will not keep them on. I have to search and find them then I just place them in their shoes until pick up time. With winter here I have no idea how I am going to keep their little feet warm since the hate socks! lol

I've lost socks too. Usually we can find them after several minutes if we check all the common hot spots behind furniture, inside the play kitchen etc. One day though we spent 10 minutes looking for a sock at the end of the day and never found it, I even checked the garbage can. Gross I know, but at leaset we could stop looking if we found it there. The next day the child went directly to the tissue box and pulled out the sock with a big grin. Seriously? The tissue box????? I had been pulling out tissues and still never noticed.

Ooh, I would have such a hard time keeping my mouth shut. How rude and condescending of that DCM! These people are my FAVE people to give a hard time. But I have a tongue and cheek attitude, so most people who come to work with me know that going in...

After hearing her vent this is what I would say:
"Oh man, you are right! This is serious business. So...where are the socks that didn't belong to him? (Hold your hand out for them). I KNOW he went home with socks. You don't HAVE them? Why didn't you realize that you were taking your son home with socks that didn't belong to him? I can't afford for you to keep taking socks that don't belong to your son! This is a major sock situation lady! You gotta get a handle on it!"

If you are not tongue and cheek like me, you could also say.... "I am sure you didn't mean that as rudely as you put it..." with a long, awkward silence not breaking eye contact.

I hate when clients try to pull rank on me. I take awesome care of their kids and yes, occasionally a sock does get lost in the course of a day. I would have no problem spelling it out to them and it usually nips these situations in the bud quickly. Some people just need that line spelled out for them when they cross it. I would not be cool with a lecture on toddler socks. Sorry you are dealing with that.

Sharpie Marker - write his name on the bottom of the socks. Problem solved.

When oh when will parents get it and mark their kids' stuff? Little socks can be a nightmare.

BTW - in a center they aren't allowed to remove their shoes and socks so that may be the solution to your problem. Address the too small shoes immediately.

I hate socks and sock "situations!" And it happens every stinkin day too! I buy kid socks at garage sales and keep a big sack of them. If someone loses their socks I just put a pair of my extra socks on because I KNOW the lost socks will turn up but I am not wasting another minute of my life looking for them!

None of the parents have ever said anything though.
