I'm thinking of in the future going from 10 to 6 children. In my interviews I always stress how wonderful it is to have 2 providers ..in case of an emergency, sickness etc. how do providers interview if you work alone when a parent asks do you have a back up person etc etc

Cover it in your policies: Parents are responsible for finding alternate care in case of illness or vacation.

Yup, parents are responsible for finding alternate care.

Technically, parents are responsible for having back up childcare. However, in my area, licensed daycare providers are required to have a substitute who we can use as a back up if something happens. But, I tell my parents that I cannot guarantee that my substitute is available every time I am unable to work and that especially if I am truly ill, I won't want the noise of the daycare in my home that day. So, even though I do have a substitute, the parents are still responsible for having back up child care if needed.

Yeah, PARENTS need to have the back up provder, not me.

I work alone (10-12kids daily) and all my parents know if I cant be at work for some reason, its their job to figure out the rest.

Yep, I make a big deal about it being the parent's responsibility during the interview. I have a lot of parents with good grandparent support and even a few SAHMs. They know what they are getting into.

Ditto - my policies state parents must have back up care. Even if I had an assistant I wouldn't want her working in my home without me being here. And if I were here and she was working it wouldn't be much of a vacation, LOL!
