I think I am going to pursue my QRIS portfolio for my 3 star, that's the furthest I am willing to go. Has anyone on here done their portfolio before or working on it? I am so not good in things like this, writing stuff, wording ect. It just seems so overwhelming and there doesn't seem to be really any support/examples or anything on this. I know it is very specific to each program but just having some guidance.
Thanks

Do you have a coaching or mentorship program?

I would look into this (finding a coach or mentorship) as my coach was invaluable in assisting in completing all the required paperwork including the portfolio.

I know each state does things differently so I don't know how much help I can be but if you have any specific questions, post away and I'll do my best.

Our ratings are good for 2 years and this is the 3rd time I rated/participated so I've been QRIS star rated since 2014 (?) and am good now until 2020 before having to re-rate.

In Colorado, we have county early childhood education councils that provide coaching (their funding is through government grants). There is no cost to the provider for this coaching. I was able to get some funding for quality improvements. I wouldn't have gone through the process without coaching. I just completed the process - in Colorado, the rating process is optional. I forsee it being mandatory eventually. It is a lengthy process, so coaching is very helpful. Your local human resources licensing person or your local daycare association should be able to give you enough information to get started. Good luck and give yourself plenty of time for the process, it can get overwhelming.

Thank you. I have a call into my local cc&r as that is where I was referred to see who my coaching specialist would be. So how dog you renew when it expires? Do you have to do the portfolio again?

Marinavanessa, yes that would be awesome, I actually did my orientation classnlike 2 years ago and decided it was too overwhelming at the time but now I decided to do it.

When it's time to renew, my coach calls me and I also get an e-mail from my state's QRIS program asking me if I would like to renew.

If I say yes, it starts the process as if I am doing it from the beginning again but it's all super easy the next time around as you've done it before so you know what they are looking for etc.

Essentially you're still ahead of the game

For those of you who have done this. Do you have to give your Family survey to each family or to just a few chosen?

We choose which ones ourselves

Great thanks, I'm assuming that's how it is for us because it doesn't really have directions just that it needs a family survey

So I have a question about the part where I need to write a description for support in childrens development in cognitive, language, motor, social and emotional skills.
For those who have done this, how did you send pictures to prove these since a lot of them are reading, listening to music, singing ect. Did you just have someone take a photo of when you are actively doing this with the kids?

I have to send in a lesson plan for each of these areas from a curriculum that is aligned with the QRIS program. I just took a page from my Mother Goose lesson plan book to include.

Also for our family surveys, I have to give one to all the families because they are all involved in your program and you have to have 50% return rate and then figure your score on the answers and amount returned.

I had to turn in written lesson plans for each age group in care (infant, toddler, preschool) and show how each activity met the learning goals for that domain.

Most of what we are required to turn in here (MN) are samples or two weeks worth of plans to show how you incorporate everything into those 2 weeks. We could use photo examples or include actual samples of children's work as well as our own observation/recording notes.
