Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>I Charged A Late Fee......Now I Feel Terrible!
LaLa1923 01:52 PM 02-14-2013
Yesterday DCGs mom told me she was being picked up by her gmom. I said that's fine, as long as she was here by 5:30. She assured me she would be.. Her gmom wasn't here until 546, we had plans and were ready to walk out the door. She was very apologetic and asked if she owed anything. I said yes, $16.

This morning her mom drops dcg off and had a flower with a balloon and a card for me. She also had cards and candy for my kids. She then called at 4 today to let me know her husband was taking her to dinner, she didn't want to be late, and she'd be coming to get dcg early. I still feel terrible for charging her....

Another dcg (4mo) had a card and an olive Garden gift card for me today.

Michael, you are killing me today! Funny stuff!

LaLa, you did the right thing. It is so hard, but sometimes you have to be tough. Well done, and you know they aren't mad at you, because they came bearing gifts! Go You!

You did the right thing ... I know once I get my license I will be struggling very hard to get my backbone when it comes to things like that. I will have to keep this story in mind, to remind myself that sticking to my policy doesn't necessarily mean I will be hated.

If you continue to allow yourself to feel bad due to someone else's actions you will be walked on alot.

DCM has a late fee because of HER actions. I know that it was her mother but she was the one who arranged the pick up and she was the one who assured you that her mother wouldn't be late.

Stop feeling bad for enforcing your policy.

As a parent, I felt bad every time I had to discipline my child but I also knew it was necessary for my child to learn the difference between right and wrong.

You just taught your DCM a valuable lesson. Feel proud NOT guilty!

I agree you did the right thing. Parents respect you when YOU respect yourself and stick to your policies.

I agree, the policy is in place for a reason. Good for you for sticking to it. You cannot allow yourself to feel bad that dcm/dc grandma inconvenienced you.
