My goal for 2014 is to stay on top of my records!
I have a question regarding a trip that we made yesterday.
The intent of the trip was to pick up my son from visitation with his dad. However, while we were there, we went to Walmart (we don't have one in our town) to pick up some things needed for the child care and spent $95. I know I am able to write off the mileage.
Do I use t/s% or can I write it off as 100%?

If the items you purchased are 100% for the childcare then you can deduct the full cost. If you will use the items during non childcare as well, then you use your t/s%

Sorry, but the law says you can only claim a trip as a business trip if the "primary purpose" of the trip was business. You stated that the primary purpose was to pick up your son. If you drove out of your way to get to Walmart, you could claim those miles, but not the trip to and from your home.

Good to know, Tom. Thanks for the clarification.
