I have mentioned my 1.5 yr old DCB before who walks on his tippy toes. He has been to a specialist and there is nothing wrong with him...just tight muscles. The dr told DCM to massage his feet before bed and thats all that can be done right now.
Here is my problem: his shoes wont stay on his feet while we are outside. Because he is on his tippy toes (like barely on the ball of this foot at all) his heel pops out of the shoes after a couple steps and the shoe falls off. I cannot keep putting his shoes on every 5 steps...DCM is frustrated and doesn't know what to do. I tried goggle but all it came up with was shoes that prevent/help tip toe walking...
The issues is that we have a large cement patio. He is fine without shoes on the grass but not on the cement. He kinda drags one big toe and it scrapes raw and starts bleeding. Im about to resort back to the superyard to keep him on the grass but then that means crying/screaming the entire time we are outside

I'm hoping someone here has ideas. We have tried strapy sandals, boots, the converse that go up the ankles, no shoes with multiple pairs of socks (he will have holes in them within minutes and then his toe starts bleeding)..nothing stays on.

Wow. One of my former dck's did this. I asked dcm to mention it to the doctor, but doc said no worries. A year later, doc said they needed to cast him repeatedly to fix the muscles. One got lengthened, and one shortened by the tiptoe walking. Casting didn't work either, and they ended up using botox in his muscles, which sounded scary but it did work.

I've had several kids who walk on the ball of their feet.

I've never had shoes that fall off.
I wonder if the shoes are just really ill-fitting?

I require shoes with laces (no Velcro or slip on shoes).

I'm just not understanding how a properly fitted shoe that is tied securely can fall off...kwim?

It sounds like the shoes are too big for him..

He walks almost completely on his toes.. Like if he is barefoot and steps in water and then leaves footprints, it's all toes and barely a sliver of the ball of his feet.. Almost ballerina style.

He has those converse that go up the ankle and tie. The toe of the shoes are hard. I can't get his feet flat enough to get his toes under the hard tip of his shoes. His feet basically don't go flat at all. He doesn't stand flat on his feet. I can't make his feet flat. The Dr can but no one else seems to be able to do it.
Even regular shoes with laces that I think fit him properly are very hard to get on because his feet are always in a very pointed position and as soon as he stands up and starts walking, he is so far up on his toes that his heel pops out of the shoes.
His boots are a little big because you can't get his feet all the way in them with his toes pointed.

I hope this makes sense.

Geez, I think mom needs to get a second opinion. That does not sound right..

Some kids absolutely are toe walkers but don't have issues actually straightening out their feet...that seems like some sort of muscular issue.

I would really suggest to mom to get a second opinion.

Either that or buy these kinds of shoes....

My DH wears them and they literally fit like second skin. they are soft and flexible so they would mold to the child's foot.

Here for toe walkers we use the hard soled walking shoes... The old style type.. They work perfectly and do NOT come off... And actually correct a lot of the toe walking also... Not sure why he dr didn't recommend those???

Like these...http://www.amazon.com/Childrens-Whit...+walking+shoes

Special dcg had to wear them due to tip toe walking and it fixed her up in months... And they come in tiny sizes.. She still wears a newborn size 2
