We do not pass out candy. Our church puts on a harvest party and we donate candy to it. We live in the country and don't have sidewalks, a neighborhood, nor are we typically home to answer door. We don't buy candy.
I've had five parents tell me they would bring the costume and begin trick or treat here. At pickup.
Or that they would stop by shortly after picking up to trick or treat.
They were shocked when I told them we weren't passing out candy and seemed put out that I would suggest stopping by our church to attend the party. Had one mom ask, "dont you want to see her all dressed up?" I smiled, said yes. I'd love to see a picture. Please send one.
She didn't seem satisfied.
this is the first year for this kind of reaction from anyone. I'm wondering if it's a continuation of the snowflake treatment or a new trend?

I'm part of the Teal Pumpkin project; non food treats & bottled water being given out tonight, but I don't expect as many kids as last year because it is a Monday. Half the towns around here did TrT last Friday... I'm not a traditional Halloween decorator either... more Day of the dead themed than creepy lol

Our Church does trunk or treat so we go to that, not that we get any trick or treaters anyways. We have a few kids around us but trunk or treats are what "everyone" does here so that's become our tradition too. I wish they could do the more traditional door to door but, most don't seem to do it around here. As for dck's...I do treat bags for our Halloween party but went with no candy/food items this year. They'll get plenty tonight as both families are going to our Church anyways lol.

I did have one a few years ago who had me get them into their costumes and everything so I could "see them" before they went out Yeah aka deal with the hard part for me...but other then that I've gotten pretty lucky with Halloween so far.

Thankfully I'm busy with my own kiddo, so no one bugs me about theirs. BUT...I do have a pesky parent that sends me random pictures about everything dck does. How about sending me a picture when his almost 4 year old butt uses the potty? That I would appreciate...

Our driveway is too lobg forntrick or treaters, so no passing out candy for us.

We live in the middle of town and get 2 trick-or-treaters at most. Of course, the trick-or-treating is from 4-6 and most people go downtown to the businesses. It sounds like the schools get out at 4 and most parents are working until 5, so I'm thinking there may not be many trick or treaters out and about this year.

I love passing out candy! I'm so glad my neighborhood has a good group of kids I am bummed my DH has to work. Last year he walked our kids around and I sat on the porch with a glass of wine and passed out candy. I was in heaven This year I will take my kiddos around the block and then we will hang out in the front and hand out candy and pass out cider to parents. I painted a pumpkin teal last night and then it rained lol...now I have a white pumpkin again But we are handing out clementines with jack o lantern faces, fake halloween tattoos and candy. Kids can pick a bucket to grab from.

We don't celebrate Halloween. I've become more and more convicted about it as time has gone by, for religious reasons, and so we just don't. We do a Fall Festival in my program but it's fall themed and there's no candy.

However, all of my students do. I've had MANY say they're coming by here and I just tell them/my child tells them we don't celebrate Halloween so our lights will be off. I just smile and leave it at that.

I'm going to be really honest here. I don't think about these children's costumes for one second because I see these children play dress up daily during center time. It's all the same to me! I think your response of a picture is great is wonderful.

We usually get about 15-20 trick or treaters plus daycare family. I pass out candy while DW takes kiddos trick or treating. Their "last stop" is always home where I pretend not to recognize them. It's always the silly little things that stick with you.

Downtown, which is just up the street, has trick or treating, and the churches across the street have trunk or treat. Kids come in from all of the rural areas around here. We usually run between 500 and 800 kids. Last year I was broke and bought less candy. Had to close before 8 pm. No more!

This year hubby declared that everyone get 2 pieces of candy, so I have 1992 pieces of candy. Of course, right after I bought the candy, downtown announced that they were trick or treating on Friday, and one church wasn't doing anything.

So, tonight os going to be a complete surprise.

We're taking my 9yr old daughter and her BFF trick or treating. Pretty much closing in on the last years we can do this so might as well enjoy it. I give it an hour before they both complain of being bored/tired/sore/cold/bags too heavy.....

My only motivation....MOMMY CANDY TAX!
(give me dem Reeses!!)

My husband and I have never celebrated Halloween. Instead we are in the midst of our annual "Chinese and movie night". Our kids invite any of their friends over who also don't celebrate the holiday, we place a big order of Chinese take out; and watch movies in the family room downstairs. Some years I have up to twenty extra people!
This year it is a bit smaller being it's a school night, but still sounds like everyone is having fun downstairs.
As my last daycare child didn't leave till closing at 5:30, we just put a sign on the door that we don't participate in trick or treating in order to keep the daycare kids safe. I can't keep running back and forth from 3pm on and keep an eye on the little ones.

I love giving out treats, but the last few years I've lived in the country where we get nobody. In the last few years we had about a half dozen in 2013, 3 in 2014, and none last year, so this year, lights are out.

I'm surprised at the number of people who don't celebrate it, but pleasantly surprised. I've been wanting to make that switch for awhile.

It's my favorite holiday and I'm disappointed at how many neighbors keep their lights off, discouraging kids from coming down the side streets.

Since we're at the end of a side street, I dressed up and sat at the neighbors' house at a busy corner while they took my kid out along with theirs.

Our street gets 200-300 kids every year so we don't pass out candy, we pass out Freezies - cheaper and the kiddos love them!

I do but I live smack dab in the middle of town. Trick or treating is from 5-7 here and I close at 6 so any kids still here at 5 get to help pass out candy.

We've lived in this house for about 18 years and I can count on one hand the number of trick-or-treaters we've had in all that time. We live on a fairly dark, country road and the houses aren't all that close to each other. Every year, I buy a bag of candy just in case... but we always end up eating it instead.

We don't get many, but I keep a bowl of candy just in case. I also help get rid of it if we have leftovers

We just got back from taking our kids out to an awesome neighborhood! We only went to a few bc it's rainy and cold, but I loved that the weather didn't stop anyone and it was so fun! There were more houses with lights on than off, so it was great and the kids had a blast! Happy Halloween everyone!

We used to, but haven't since we moved to this house.

We still go back to our old neighborhood where dd lives. The HOA provides hot dogs, chips, candy, and soda/water. It's a small tract, less than 175 houses. People were coming in by the truck loads tonight. There were a lot of teenagers and adults trick or treating.

Some of the local churches used to have big Harvest Festivals. Someone wrote an article in the paper that they were still celebrating Halloween regardless of what they called it. That put a stop to the churches celebrating.

I don't "not" celebrate. We just do everything at the church. We live in the country and dont have trick or treaters.
That's why I don't have candy here. We aren't here.

I have always passed out candy, but after this year I don't think I will any more. We had a handful of younger kids in the first 20 minutes, after that it was mostly older (I'm talking probably high school into college ) people, most not even dressed up. Couldn't even be bothered to say Trick or Treat or even Thank You.

I'll be known hereafter as The Crochety Old Lady on the block after I began answering the door with "Seriously?"

Our neighborhood was hopping tonight! It was so fun! There were several houses that had set up haunted walks in their backyards, fog machines, music, lights. It was crazy! There were tons of young children, and even the older kids were dressed up and polite. It was just lovely. Super busy 6-8:30, and then quiet. Just perfect. And my cider with a touch of whiskey kept me cozy and warm I hope everyone had a great night too

We are on a side street and it's hit or miss whether we have kids or not. Some years we get a lot and others, well, this year we only had 5.

My sister told me last night that as soon as her kids got a certain age (not sure if they asked their age or guessed it) they were turned away at the door and not given candy.

We get no trick or treaters, our church does trunk or treat, which is the only place we ever take dd. this year we did a trunk and dd passed out candy, it was the highlight of her night, she did not want to leave.

As for Dck, I got miniature pumpkins and had dd decorate them (since dck are too young) sent one home with each dck.

I only live 5 miles out of town but my driveway is over 3/4ths of a mile long and is in a heavily wooded area on a dead end road so needless to say we get very few Trick or Treaters at my house.

Most years, I took my kids to my MIL's house to ToT and my DH would hand out candy while my MIL and I walked the kids around her neighborhood. After we got back, my MIL would watch the kids so my DH and I go out and celebrate my birthday.

Now that my kids are older and we don't participate much in any type of Halloween activities. It's NOT my favorite holiday so..

I do buy a bag of candy "just in case" we get a ToT'er but the last few years have not produced any so...I bring the candy to daycare and give it to the kids.

Trunk or Treating at churches, the local mall and area community centers are popular around here. It's usually cold and/or snowy so indoor celebrations are usually preferred.

I'm jealous of you that don't get trick or treaters! I bought $200 worth of candy and it was 85%-90% gone by the end of the night. I couldn't even count the number of kids that went through here last night. Kids tend to travel to our neighborhood to trick or treat, plus there are kids in most homes in our development. Parents use it as a social night (they roam in packs with their kids with giant mixed drinks in their hand). I'm not a fan of Halloween, personally, but the neighbors certainly are!

Our town does it like this too. And I like it
But I'd be annoyed with dc families insisting I needed to see their kids. Um, no. Who are they to tell you where you have to be on Halloween? Weird!

That's how I feel. I feel like the Halloween Scrooge, though, and do a Fall Festival so my business isn't the only business of this nature doing nothing. I can't figure out a way around it beyond doing it AFTER Halloween and not having anything Halloween related with it (no candy, no trick or treating, etc.). Hmmm. I'm still working on it so next year feels far more comfortable for me. It's causing me a lot of stress and anxiety.
