How do you all baby proof your fireplace? I've just been using a large comforter to put over it and that's been protecting the kids, but wondering if there is another way. I know that there are the bumper guards, but don't you need to have those on all the time? My kids are 20 and 17 so don't need them other than during daycare hours.

A provider friend of mine puts a play yard fence in front of her.

I used a fireplace gate. Required if I use the fireplace.

Mine is gas (turned completely off in summer).
The hearth is covered with a body pillow.

In the winter, I use a screen to keep fingers away like these:

Body pillow still there.

I have tried those sticky bumpers but they never stay on.
Babies love to pick off those things too.
The never care about moving the pillow.

Yes. I often have to during winter. We have almost weekly power outages (down in the holler foothills). Most of the time it is only a couple hours, but can be as much as three weeks each year. I also have to cook outdoors from time to time.

Wow!! You definitely do need that fireplace then. We've only used ours once in 3 years I think.
