Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>Average In-Home Child Care Prices Per Zip Code?
Sergio 08:34 PM 06-25-2016
My wife & I are thinking about buying our own house. As of today, every zip code in the United States is on the table, but the most important criteria for us is how much my wife can charge for child care. We are currently renting a house in 94040, where the average in-home daycare prices are around $350/week, and she doesn't want to experience a substantial decline in her revenue.

Unfortunately, the only reliable information about average in-home child care prices per zip code I could find is:
http://www.ymca.org/crs/child-care/c...hild-care.html
which just covers the San Diego County.

Do you happen to know where I can find similar data for other states/counties?

I don't have a chart for you. But, something else you need to consider is cost of living. I know that I make a lot less per hour in Kansas than I would in California. But, my $ goes a lot further here than it would there. Just a thought.

KSDC, thanks about reminding me about the cost of living!
I decided to use http://www.bestplaces.net/ to get that information, because it appears to be the most recent.

As for daycare related stats, I found this: http://usa.childcareaware.org/member...data-services/
Has anyone ever used it?

I would first narrow it down to WHERE you want to move and then research prices by zipcode. My state has market rates. I am in NY (not city) and charge $200/week but the cost of living is substantially less. Eg. my 5b/2.5b home with a good sized yard is assessed at around 200k. I could NOT get anything near that in so cal. In my area there is a HUGE range of rates, from $10-15/day-65/day.

Good news, folks!
I found out that a 2014 federal law requires states to do a child care market rate study every two years:
http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/occ/...%20METHODOLOGY

I think my state is doing one right now:

Here is a good example of how a finished study is supposed to look like:

Market rates were already brought up, in my previous post.
