How many of you are licensed?
Blackcat31 11:18 AM 04-18-2012
I am licensed.
You should make a poll. Use the tools in the top right corner of your post to do it.
seebachers 11:26 AM 04-18-2012
I am licensed.
Solandia 11:34 AM 04-18-2012
I was licensed for 10 years...I turned in my licensed in Jan, and now running licensed exempt. Favorite part:being able to bring the kids to my sons' room to play for 5 minutes while I switch out laundry (laundry closet in in the hallway upstairs). I have 2 loads to do each day, otherwise, the kids are not allowed upstairs when I was licensed (not approved for daycare kid use because I do not have a fire escape from the second story). So, so nice not having 12 loads of laundry to do on saturdays. *thumbs up*

Oneluckymom 12:18 PM 04-18-2012

Same here, without a license in California you can only watch one family.
Ariana 12:22 PM 04-18-2012

Where I am at you can have 6 kids, 3 under 2, without a licsense. So I am doing that for now. Not licsensed yet but open to possibility of it in future!
Meeko 01:48 PM 04-18-2012
Licensed for the past 27 years.
MarinaVanessa 01:53 PM 04-18-2012

I am a listed home. I can have 3 kids. I just have to have a background check every 2 years and pay a yearly fee of $25. No inspections, no rules, but also, no subsidy kids and no food program.
I would consider becoming registered if I ever moved from here. Right now, my house is 130+ years old and doesn't have central heat. I have no desire to spend the enormous amount of money it would cost to install it at this point in time. There are a few other structural issues that would need to be addressed. Financially, it would take me years to recoup the money to bring it up to licensing codes.
So, I just keep my 3 and everyone leaves me alone. I said that flippantly, but it isn't that bad. I've studied the minimum standards, and I have adopted many of them, because they are good guidelines and most make sense. But, if something doesn't make sense or doesn't really apply to my kids, I can skip it. For example, I don't post menus or plan a strict meal plan in advance because I rarely know who will be here. For example, I had chicken casserole planned for Tuesday. If I had followed through, it would have been wasted because I had no kids. I don't do fresh muffins on a one child morning. But, I follow what feel important.

Me, too. We may be in the same state.
I never wanted to watch more than 6 children at a time so I was always legally unliscensed.
I'm licensed. My state requires it.
GrannyJ 05:38 PM 04-18-2012
I was licensed for 8 years then went to work at a center for 5 years now I have been licensed for another 7 years.
kendallina 05:50 PM 04-18-2012
Legally unlicensed and can have up to 6 kiddos.
lil angels 06:58 PM 04-18-2012
Licensed for 12 yrs
littlemissmuffet 07:16 PM 04-18-2012
Legally unlicensed here.
Crazy8 07:17 PM 04-18-2012
here only centers are "licenced". home daycares are "registered".
I was registered for years, but let it expire. You don't need to be here and I find the program in my area to be seriously lacking. I will keep the rest of my comments about it to myself.
momofboys 08:11 PM 04-18-2012
legally unlicensed
MyAngels 08:17 PM 04-18-2012
Licensed - coming up on my 20th year
.
I was registered for 5 years, and have been licensed for almost 2. My state got rid of registered care, and you cannot care for more than 1 non related kid without a license.
small_steps 04:45 AM 04-19-2012
I am going into my 3rd year as being licensed. I decided from the start that I wanted to be licensed because where I'm at you can keep 6 kids as registered but I need to keep more than that (single mom) so being licensed I can keep up to 12. Works for me!
There are lots of people in my town that are illegally operating as in texas you can't watch any child (except relatives) on a regular basis and not at least be listed with the state.
Countrygal 08:19 AM 04-19-2012
There are two choices in our state - licensing and state certification. I am state certified and hope to be licensed within the year (at least that's the goal.....
)
mrsp'slilpeeps 10:39 AM 04-19-2012
Legally Un- Licensed. Allowed to have 6 DCK's, not including my own.
3 under 3 yrs.
quietpoet2004 10:56 AM 04-19-2012
I am legally unlicensed.
newtodaycare22 11:36 AM 04-19-2012
I'm licensed. In my state (MD) you have to be licensed to take even 1 kid that's not a relative (for more than 20 hours of care a month).
GoodKarma 11:38 AM 04-19-2012
Another licensed Marylander here!
themoorethemerrier 11:51 AM 04-19-2012
Here in NY you can be a registered fdc for 6 plus 2, and licensed gfdc for 12 plus 2.
I'm gfdc (12 plus 2) since last month.
Mary Poppins 12:09 PM 04-19-2012
Also legally unlicensed for up to 6 and sadly, I exceed the practically non-existent safety standards set by the state for those who are licensed.

I wasn't ever registered. I've been licensed for 3 years. We can't even watch 1 child who isn't related to us if it's on a regular schedule. It has to be less than 20 hours per week and not on a regular basis. They got rid of registered care because we had some children die in daycares and because KS had scored a 0 on the national test/poll (whatever it's called). Now, we have to be licensed and new regulations must be in compliance starting May 1st. We have had a bunch of unlicensed daycares pop up since the state required licensing.
