We both work full time jobs and keep our kids in a daycare with family to love on them. But it always seems like my wife is feeling left out when all the other moms at our daugthers school seem to have such amazing wonderful lives and can afford to keep their kids at home with them. I work as hard as i can, but we both have to work to make things work. So i came here to vent a little even though i will probably get bashed more so than anything. I know there are a lot of hard working women on this forum who work as homedaycares or in daycare buildings. Just dont know why they have to always pick on her, making comments about how tired she looks when she comes to after school activities. Anyway im done venting.

maybe they are just trying to make conversation. maybe she does look tired. maybe treat her to a spa day.

Maybe it is just the area you live in. I know that there are many stay at home moms, who's family is so much in debt that they are just showing off so to say...

My family tends to live very frugal on one income until I was able to get my dc started again. This means that we both sacrifice to do so.. we do without.

Now, I know many families that both parents have to work.. you should not let that bother you or what those ladies are doing to your wife... who knows the mom's that are staying at home could be jealous that they have to be home with the kiddos 24/7.

If I were your wife I would reply with "I AM tired, I work 40+ hours a week outside the home and then come home to take care of my kids, my husband and my home!"
You guys shouldn't be ashamed of being hard-working parents!! Your wife needs to stand up to these snots!

maybe its your wife that is giving them a bad vibe. I find that those who work outside the house are the ones that give me the snotty look. I have some people who know what I do and they don't care, but then there are the others who think what I do is meaningless, I encountered those issues at a parent council meeting.

I find that I will find a mom also standing by herself and talk to her otherwise I just keep to myself.

There will always be that working mom vs. stay at home mom debate. Then there are the hybrids, the work at home moms... and even THEY get slack. Parenting is never easy, and the grass always looks greener on the other side. When I worked outside of the house I felt badly that I wasn't home with my kids. When I was home with my kids I felt guilty that my husband was the sole income provider and I honestly got bored sometimes. When I started daycare, I lamented about how my space was being invaded and how my children are around but not really spending quality time with me. It's just one of those things. We have to work to find our happy balance. If your wife has found hers, then screw what the other mothers say. They are probably bitter because they haven't found theirs.

Too many people let other's define who they are.

If your life is working for you and you are happy then you don't owe anyone an explanation for anything!

The grass isn't always greener on the other side, it is greener where we water and fertilize it.

Just remember, people who seem to have "perfect" lives usually don't!

As usual, BlackCat hit the nail on the head! Only YOU can make you happy and the same goes for your wife.

I started 'doing daycare' because we couldn't afford to have me be a SAHM. 20+ years later, I am still 'doing daycare' and people still look at me as though I am crazy or maybe can't do anything else. But really, I am doing what I love and it's none of their business.

I feel for you and your wife. I never wanted to be anything but a SAHM but we couldn't afford it so I had to work. My hubby felt bad that he didn't make enough for me to stay home, I didn't really enjoy daycare but it brought in some money and I was still technically home for my boys.

I was always envious of those SAHMs who seemed to have plenty of money for their "moms day out!" And when they started complaining about how hard they had it I wanted to slap them! LOL

We talked about this in my Bible study group recently.

There were many women who have done both. They were SAHM's with some of their children and WOHM's with other children. They said they found themselves longing for the other side of the fence no matter what they were doing. It's very likely that the SAHM's are envious of your wife, just as your wife might be envious of the SAHMs.

I think the secret is finding contentment in where God has you.

OP, Remember those snotty girls in high school? They are full grown now.

That is all.
