Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>What To Do With A Huge Amount Of Crayons?

I have a few boxes of crayons but a former dcp gave me a small-med. sized tub of crayons(probably the size of a couple gallons) they collected when cleaning out their older kids' bedrooms. Have had them for years and don't know what to do with them all. I've used some for melting and making cookie crayons. Probably a dumb question but can you make candles out of them? What could be done with a sizeable amount of good crayons? We really don't use that many; we use markers most of the time.

to be honest I threw away all my crayons (markers too) and don't want spend my time and money for it anymore. The kids use only pencils here.

I have seen conflicting information on how toxic the fumes may be, I'm not sure I would want to use them as a candle burning for long periods of time. I would repurpose them and use molds to melt in the oven. It could even be a great way to give the daycare kids cheap gifts! You could do ABC's, spell their name, Bunny mold for Easter gift, Heart mold for Valentines day etc.

I've made candles. Maybe advertise them on a free share facebook group. That way you could get someone who needs them and that will actually come and get them from your home.

If the set is that big, maybe divide them into plastic baggies so that more than one family can have some.

We have melted them into rainbow crayons using an old muffin tins that I picked up at a thrift store. Something like this: https://www.hgtv.com/design/make-and...cycled-crayons

Then, the kids get to take their creations home to color with there!

Remake into fun shapes and give as prizes/gifts

Thanks everybody. Maybe I'll keep some to make into shaped crayons and put the rest on freecycle.
It's just that I've had this bucket for quite a few years and every time I clean things out I think what am I going to do with this, and end up sticking it back into some other corner. We don't use a lot of crayons here. The kids prefer markers and to be truthful, so do I. They wash off tables and floors, and kids don't get wax stuck in their teeth.

There’s a group around here that takes old crayons, melts them down, and distributed them to hospalitized kids:https://thecrayoninitiative.org
