Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>Nap Time 'Accidents' When Awake?
newtodaycare22 11:18 AM 10-16-2012
Dcg is 3 and has been potty trained for approx 2 months. In undies, no issues...til this week. Yesterday, she had a little pee pee accident in the morning (in the bathroom, didn't quite make it on the potty). Then, at nap, she stood up next to her cot and peed...then laid back down (she fights naps and I'm lucky if she sleeps one day a week). She was awake and KNOWS that they can get up to go potty during nap. She also went right before nap as usual, and can usually make it 3-4 hours between pee trips.

We had a long talk before nap today about getting up to go potty (which is maybe 5 feet from her cot!). I honestly thought she'd take advantage of it and get up to play, but I'd almost rather that then pee everywhere. Today, I went in the kitchen to sweep during nap. I go in to check on her, she peed again allllll over AND pooped in her undies!!! Still..never even went in the bathroom. What the heck.

I don't want her to regress, but she's going back in pull ups at nap tomorrow. I am not cleaning up poop and pee everyday. Any other advice on how to handle it? I almost feel like shes pissed that I'm making her lay down and she's retaliating!

My almost 3 yr old still wears pull ups at naptime. mostly because she has not mastered holding her urine while sleeping. But she has regressed on occasion for no reason. All last week she "woke up" with poop. There is no way she pooped in her sleep. She woke up and then pooped and then woke me up. I tried to make it a non issue. This week she hasn't done it once. She actually asked me to go potty today and pooped before nap. I think all children regress every once in awhile at this age. I have heard many parents who complained when there previously potty trained child has "accidents". I just tell her that she needs to tell me when she has to poop so that we don't have a mess to clean up. Then I clean it up and move on.

In this case, yup, i'd put her back in pull ups for nap and not make a big deal out of it.

Those rent accidents. Those are on purposes. On purposes get diapers.

she's in a pull up today and now...she ripped it off. I went to check on her and it's off. I thought she peed but it's dry.She said she needed a new one because she ripped it. I told her Oh well you shouldn't have broken it...and made her put on the old one (she only ripped one side). WOW she wants attention doesn't she??

So now you need pull ups AND duct tape to hold them on! I had a 3yr old dcg do this too. Woke up covered in poop. So disgusting. I did put her back in pullups, gave her a week, then weened her off again. She has done fine since. I think sometimes they just need to reassured of what the rules are that they have to follow.....kind of a "pushing of boundaries" and when you don't back down, their world will right itself again.
