The truly accidental ones are heartbreaking. The clueless ones are tragic. But the drug-addled ones make me wish they'd just leave the kid in a shopping cart in a Target somewhere instead.

4-year-old died in hot car as father worked at Minnesota food festival for nearly 6 hours

A 26-year-old Minnesota father has been arrested after he allegedly left his 4-year-old son in a hot car for hours as he worked an event in downtown St. Paul.

The boy, who was not identified, died after his father, Kristopher Alexander Taylor, left him in the car for hours as he worked at the Minnesota Monthly 8th Annual Grillfest at CHS Field in downtown St. Paul on Saturday, according to charging documents filed in Ramsey County.

When Taylor returned around 5:15 p.m., he noticed that his son was unresponsive and "stiff," causing him to yell the boy's name and shake him, authorities said.

Taylor carried his son as he ran into the Regions Hospital around 5:35 p.m.and "frantically" asked for help, according to the probable cause statement.

Hospital staff thought the child was having a seizure, since his whole body was stiff, and he was pronounced dead after anti-seizure medicine had no effect, according to the complaint.

Taylor allegedly later admitted to police that he "left his son in the Journey for the entirety of his work shift" because he "couldn't find anyone to watch his son," according to the criminal complaint. Taylor also allegedly stated that the last time he checked on the boy was at 11:30 a.m., police said.

Taylor has been charged with second-degree manslaughter and is currently being held at the Ramsey County jail.

ST. PAUL, MN (KARE) The death of a 4-year-old boy in hot car Saturday in St. Paul, Minnesota marks a dubious distinction.

"This is the 800th pediatric vehicular heatstroke case that we've documented going back to 1998," Jan Noll said.

Noll, a meteorologist, runs the website noheatstroke.org. He's also extensively studied temperatures in parked car during a variety of weather patterns.

Under sunny skies Saturday in St. Paul, the temperature reached 70 degrees. Based on his research, Noll estimates the temperature in the car where the boy died "would have been probably approaching 120 degrees."

A Winston-Salem woman is charged with murder after she left her 9-month-old son in a car for hours while she went to work, officials say.

Kayla Rodgers, 23, brought her child, who was “lifeless and not breathing,” to Wilkes Medical Center on Thursday, WXII reported. Deputies from the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office were called to investigate the baby’s death at 4:20 p.m.

Rodgers told investigators she had picked up her son at 4 p.m. from a new babysitter’s house, where she found him face down in a crib, the Winston-Salem Journal reported.

She said she brought the child to the emergency room because he was “unconscious and not breathing,” Fox 8 reported. - https://www.newsobserver.com/news/st...229986039.html

I don't get it! The child was 9mo. In that age, they have no problem to turn from their belly to back. Some kids even start walking at that age. I think something else has happened in the babysitter house.

In the article, it states she said it happened at the sitter’s house, but was later revealed she left her baby in the car while she worked.

The child never made it to the babysitter's house, if there was one. Notice the word *new*. He died in the parking lot, in a hot car, at his mother's place of employment.

"The toddler’s mother attempted to take the girl into a daycare, but she didn’t want to go in before they drove home, the report said.

A source then told the outlet that there was some miscommunication about whether the mother or father would take the girl from the vehicle.

Mayor Meir Lichtenstein said warm temperatures contributed to this girl’s death. “It seems like wonderful parents. They have one other child that is approximately 4 1/2 years old that is also a girl, and they are very saddened,” Lakewood Mayor Meir Lichtenstein told CBS New York. “I was actually at the hospital and I saw the parents. They’re extremely saddened by what happened.”

On May 6, they were in the 70s in the area. On a 70-degree Fahrenheit day, temperatures inside a car can get into the 90s in short while. In 30 minutes, it can reach 100 degrees, NBC noted." - https://www.theepochtimes.com/toddle...s_2910391.html

I just read that one. 7 kids, total, one carseat. Only two were hers. I'd be curious to know if she is a family childcare provider out running errands? I will be watching this one.

"A woman is accused of leaving seven children, ages 2 to 4, in a hot car outside a Maryland shopping center last week, authorities said.

According to the Charles County Sheriff's Office, one of the children called 911 from the car shortly after 1 p.m. Friday.

The boy told dispatchers that "he and six other children were inside a car unattended and hot," the Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Deputies arrived to find the children inside the unlocked car with the windows up and the engine turned off, WJLA-TV reported. Only one car seat was in the vehicle, authorities said.

The car's driver, the 37-year-old mother of two of the children, returned to the vehicle about 10 minutes after authorities found and treated the kids, the Sheriff's Office said. Deputies said she had been gone for at least 20 minutes.

Authorities charged the woman, whose name was not released, with confinement of children inside a motor vehicle. She could face more charges, as well, the Sheriff's Office said."

Another public rescue

"New cellphone video Channel 2 Action News obtained shows a pair of shoppers rescuing a toddler from a hot car in Smyrna. The women are locksmiths who were in the right place at the right time. The rescue happened last Friday when the boy's mother went inside a Target to pick up some medication, officials said.

Police said the child was in his car seat all alone with his window cracked, but the air conditioning was not on. He was seen crying and sweating profusely, with his nose dripping. With no time to spare, Edaya Allison recorded the rescue on her cellphone. The woman seen in the video opening the car door is her sister, Lilach Butler. Butler said another shopper initially waved the sisters down after noticing the toddler in the hot car. "Everything happened for a reason because if I wasn’t standing at that door, she wouldn’t have called me," Butler said. In the video, the women say it was more than 80 degrees outside at the time. Less than a minute later, Butler got the door open. The sisters own a local locksmith business.

"The baby held on to me as if I was his mother," Allison said.

Allison said she called 911 and the mother came out about 10 minutes later.

The Target on Cobb Parkway is in Marietta’s jurisdiction and despite leaving the child in the hot car, police did not charge the mother.

A spokesman said the case is still open and investigators are reviewing the facts to make sure the safety of the child is protected.

"I was shaking. I was in tears because I just couldn’t believe some woman would let this happen to their child," Allison said.

Paramedics checked on the boy and gave him water. He's doing OK.

The rescuers believe he was by himself for at least 15 minutes." - https://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/rig...QitmfF8DXoKu0U

I'm sure that 4 year old is actually the child care provider most of the time I am so proud of him for knowing he should call the police and how to do it.

Also, I read in another version of the story she had 7 kids under 5 in a sedan and only 1 car seat. Which means the kids were not restrained, some had to be in the front seat in addition to leaving them in a hot car. She's going to get the book thrown at her.

4 technologies designed to prevent Hot Car Deaths: https://abcnews.go.com/US/technologi...ry?id=47991074

https://www.evenflo.com/sensorsafe/sensorsafe.html is a technology found in some car seats from the brand Evenflo. There is a receiver that goes into your car’s diagnostics port, a socket located inside a vehicle that accesses various vehicle subsystems where small receivers can be installed to tap into a car's computer system. That receiver communicates with the car seat's smart chest clip – letting the driver know through a series of chimes whether a child is still in the seat after the car is turned off.

Waze, a popular traffic app, has a setting that will remind a driver to check his or her back seat when a destination entered into the app is reached. But it won’t alert a driver during an impromptu stop. As Faris pulled into the driveway for her Waze destination, she received an alert before she turned off the car: "Check your car before you leave."

Driver’s Little Helper Sensor System is a sensor system sold at several major retailers that can be put in a car seat. The sensor goes under the car seat padding where the child sits. The sensor is then attached to a battery pack and synced with an app. You can set when you want the app to send you notifications after you stop the car. You can set the interval for when you receive the notification -- the fastest being a minute.

General Motor's Rear Seat Reminder System: This feature in some GM cars uses back door sensors that become activated when either the rear door is opened or closed within 10 minutes of the vehicle being started, or while the vehicle is running. Under these circumstances, when you reach your destination a reminder appears on the dashboard as well as an audible chime notification. When Faris opened the rear door before starting the car and then turned off the car, this reminder popped up on the dashboard: "Rear Seat Reminder. Look In Rear Seat."

Those are really neat.

A boy scout (I believe the story was) working on his Eagle Scout, came up with a long piece of yarn. One end tied to the car seat, then other to a rubber bracelet. One the driver is seated, they put the bracelet on, they can't get out without taking it off.

Ellis County authorities are investigating after an 11-month-old baby girl died in a hot car last Friday.

A family member called deputies about 5:15 p.m. to the 500 block of Elm Street in the town of Bardwell about an unresponsive child.

13. "When authorities arrived, the girl was not breathing. Deputies began performing CPR until paramedics arrived. Medical staff eventually ceased CPR and declared the child dead.

She was taken to the Dallas County medical examiner's office for an autopsy, authorities said. The child was identified as Mia Villegas, who died of hyperthermia, according to the Ennis Daily News.

Authorities didn't say how long the girl was left inside the vehicle." - https://www.dallasnews.com/news/elli...uthorities-say

15. "Morristown police discovered a three-year-old boy dead in a minivan Thursday after responding to a report of a missing child.

Officers were dispatched to a residence on the 2400 block of Fairview Road around 10 p.m. Thursday to investigate the disappearance of the toddler who had not been seen since around 4 p.m.

Officers found the child dead in a minivan parked in the driveway. Police say the van appears to have not been driven in some time and the child climbed into the van himself.

Morristown police say it appears to have been a miscommunication between the boy’s grandmother and parents. The parents work night shift and went to bed at 4 p.m. and the grandmother thought the child was with them taking a nap.

The boy’s parents left for work shortly before police were called and thought the child was with the grandmother. The grandmother called the parents when she was putting the kids to bed and couldn’t find the 3-year-old. The parents then called police.

Officers say it took around 15 minutes to find the boy and believe the passenger door was unlocked, not the sliding door. They believe the child got in through the passenger door and couldn’t get back out.

The police department at this time is calling it a tragic accident." - https://www.wkrn.com/news/tennessee-...tennessee-van/

16. "A 16-month-old girl died Sunday after police say she was left in a vehicle parked on the city's west side. According to a press release from the Sioux City Police Department, at around 3:58 p.m. Sunday, officers were called to the 1400 block of Rebecca Street for an unconscious child. The girl was left in the vehicle unattended.

The child was taken to UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's, where she was pronounced dead.

The Sioux City Police Department is investigating the incident." - https://siouxcityjournal.com/news/lo...2ae42ba86.html

I have a DC family that does NOT communicate with me about attendance. DCD works a construction job so if it's rainy he doesn't work and usually keeps DCK. This happens regularly. I have discussed the importance of communication with them several times to no avail.

Yesterday about 10-15 minutes prior to closing, I am outside picking up the playground toys when DCM pulls up. She enters the yard and looks around and says "Oh is DCK inside?" I am like and said "No, DCK was a no show today." DCM says "No one called or texted you?"

Nope.

For a few loooooong seconds I thought to myself "Oh my Lord! What if DCK is in the car!!!!!! "
Like everywhere across the country it's been seriously HOT outside.

They weren't (DCK was safe at home) but seriously....this is exactly how this stuff happens.... two parents that live together do NOT communicate with me or each other ALL day long.

Shameful and sad considering the methods of communication abundant today.
Scared the bejeezus out out of me.

With the temps in AZ right now a kid wouldn’t last 10 minutes.

Makes you wonder how many animals die this way

This kind of reminds me of something that happened in a town close by a couple years ago.

The mom forgot to drop off her 4 month old son at daycare and went to work, leaving him in his seat the entire day. She left work at 6 and realized what she had done. He had already passed away, unfortunately.

It got me thinking, as daycare providers, should we communicate with parents when their child is a no-show?

Just a quick text "Hey, will so and so be at daycare today?"

In no way do I think a daycare is responsible for a parent's lack of communication! Just my first thought when I heard this story was if the daycare would've gotten ahold of her when she didn't show up (and if they were expecting the child that day), things probably would've ended differently.

Like I said, in NO WAY do I feel a daycare is ever responsible. It's just something that is in my mind if I have a child later than expected, should I text and see if they will be here today?

Such sad stories.

There is actually a lengthy thread where we discussed this very thing. Seemed to be split 50/50 and I can see both sides, especially not wanting that level of responsibility on top of everything else.

Personally if a family doesn’t show up I text but mostly its to know if they are coming or not because once I am outside I cannot hear the door so I instruct them to come to the gate etc.

That is a hot topic of debate for sure!

Taking on the responsibility of calling No shows also includes taking on the liability too.

What happens if you forget to call/text because you are busy with other kids in care and a child does get left in a car. Guess who the finger gets pointed at?

I think it's a moral and ethical dilemma that has a solution but one that hasn't been enacted yet.

I'd like to see daycare's call as a courtesy because I DO believe it could make a difference but I also think the public needs to understand that we already have our hands full with child that ARE present so if we did forget or be in the situation where we weren't able to call that we (providers/child cares) were immune to any type of responsibility. Kind of like the good Samaritan law.

Here are some other threads about hot car deaths.... in many of them we've had some really good conversations about daycare providers calling or not calling.

I call, because it is really easy for me. I only have 6 kids.

I don't know how the big centers could do it unless each individual class was empowered to call. Maybe we should have a simple no liability form for it?

One would hope it'd scare the same out of the mom, and maybe she'd get on dad's case.

Ok...I forgot how to work the quotes. That was in response to BC's construction dad.

My sister had a "near miss" 25 years ago with my niece, who was about 3 or 4 at the time.

They have a tuck-under garage, accessible through the house. They were headed out to the grocery store, so my sister told Tiff to go down and get her shoes on. Then, the phone (landline) rang, and my sister spent a good 10 minutes dealing with whatever it was on the phone. She then went downstairs to put her own shoes on. Her daughter was not in the hall, so she thought she'd gone back upstairs. A few minutes of searching, and no Tiffany.

Finally, she checked the car. There was Tiffany, in her car seat, screaming, red hot, and completely hysterical. She'd gotten her shoes on, opened the car, gotten in, closed the door, buckled in, and then couldn't get back out. She panicked, and of course that made matters worse-it was also the middle of summer.

My sister got her out, comforted her, put washcloths on her head to cool her down, and called the doctor. It could have been a much different outcome!

Tiffany is now a mother of a beautiful 1 year old.

I work at a larger daycare. We have 10 classrooms and around 300 kids. We each write out a absence sheet daily and turn it in. The sheets are turned into the assistant director who then makes contact with all the absentees, unless the teacher has written a note telling the assistant director why the child is absent (parents often tell us and not the office). It takes about a hour, and the fallow up calls (the parents who dont answer) take about half that.

Infant twins died inside a car in the Bronx after their father told police he forgot they were there, went to work for the day, and found them hours later, according to officials.

The 7-month-old infants, a boy and a girl, were found around 4:00 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Kingsbridge Terrace and Kingsbridge Road in Kingsbridge.

The 37-year-old father of the twins is being questioned by police. He told them he drove to work at the VA Medical Center around 8:00 a.m. and forgot the children were in the car when he parked, police said.

He said he went back into his car in the afternoon and started to drive away, according to police. He drove for two blocks before discovering the children in the back seat "foaming at the mouth" and called 911.

So far, there are no arrests.

Police are investigating the incident as an accidental hot car death.

This is a breaking news story. Keep checking back for the latest information.

It has been updated: "Family and supporters cheered as Juan Rodriguez left custody just one day after his one-year-old twins died inside a hot car in the Bronx."

"Rodriguez told police he dropped one of his children, a three-year-old, at a home in Westchester, and then drove to work at the VA Medical Center in the Bronx around 8:00 a.m. He told police he forgot the children were in their rear-facing car seats when he parked, police said.

Everybody with small children should be required to install some kind of alerting device. There are items on the market aren't there? This type of thing is definitely a crime but not of an intentional criminal act, KWIM? So sad about the suffering of little children. Parents that make this fatal mistake, should be required to become speakers in the hopes of preventing it from happening to others. In the majority of these cases, I truly don't think jail is the answer.

I agree that jail may not be the answer but who forgets their kids, not for a minute, but for an entire day. Why should their be a device made for "someone not to forget their kid". Listen to how that sounds! I know we get busy, but something is wrong with "parenting" these days. Some of the kids we get in child care these days wander around in a spacey fog. It makes me wonder how they are alive within their home setting. The parents are the same way. Everyone lays around and the kids wander around. When we have sunday lunches, my cousins kids are EVERYWHERE with no parent in sight. The parents just let them do whatever and we have 6 acres. My house is about 100 yards from my mom where we have lunch. DH went home early to find one of the kids crying behind our house because they were lost I just don't get it! Just a rant this morning

24 7/29/2019 Oakland Park, FL 93 Noah Sneed 2 yr

"OAKLAND PARK, FLORIDA: A 2-year-old boy was found dead on Monday, July 29, inside a van parked outside an Oakland Park daycare center as temperatures soared to the 90s in the afternoon, authorities said.

Around 3.20 pm on Monday, emergency responders were called to the scene outside Ceressa's Enrichment and Empowerment Academy in Oakland Park, Florida, after daycare staff discovered the child's lifeless body inside a white Ford van.

“At this point, we don’t know why the boy remained inside the vehicle, but, evidently, he ultimately succumbed to the environment in which he remained inside that van,” Broward County Sheriff's spokesperson Keyla Concepcion was quoted as saying.

Authorities said hot weather in the area might have played a role in the death as temperatures in the area were reported to have been in the low 90s. Speaking to WSVN, Concepcion said, “We know at some time earlier today, the boy was transported to this facility inside that van.” "What happened once they arrived here is under investigation. You would think that any facility that deals with children — especially young children — would have some kind of checks and balances or some kind of system. Unfortunately, it's not the first time that we've heard of a case like this happening."

Health experts say a child’s body can heat up three to five times faster than an adult’s and this can cause major organs to begin to shut down, WSVN reported.

Horrified parents whose children attend the daycare rushed to the scene after the deceased child's body was captured in news footage.

Meanwhile, no arrests have been made so far and authorities also haven't released the name of the driver of the van.

This is the latest tragedy in a series of recent incidents involving one or more children dying after being left in hot vehicles.

Phoenix resident Juan Rodriguez, who accidentally left his one-year-old twins Luna and Phoenix in the back of his vehicle for eight hours in 108-degree weather, pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide charges on Friday." - https://meaww.com/boy-found-dead-ins...degree-weather

The infant was found by her father at 5:15 p.m. after she was left in the vehicle for an unknown amount of time.

26 8/1/2019 Corbin, KY 88 Aubrey Rose 2 yr

"Kentucky State Police released the preliminary autopsy report of a two-year-old girl found dead in Whitley County.

The state medical examiner's office said the cause of death was consistent with hyperthermia, which means Aubrey Rose's body temperature was much higher than normal.

Police said she was found in a hot car on the family's property. They do not suspect foul play.

The investigation is ongoing.

Kentucky State Police are investigating after a two-year-old girl was found dead in Whitley County.

Police were called to a home on Leona Wyatt Road around 2:00 p.m. to look for a missing child. Multiple law enforcement agencies searched the property and found the toddler unresponsive.

"The original call that came in as a missing juvenile. We went to assist another agency. Then it got upgraded to a possible full arrest. Which means not breathing, no heartbeat," said Corbin Fire Department Battalion Chief, Jack Partin.

The girl, Aubrey Rose, of Corbin was taken to Baptist Health Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The outcome was something police said they hoped would not happen.

However, they said they are motivated to make sure they get answers for the family.

"The main thing is to gather all the facts that we can, get to the bottom of what caused it. As much information as we can possibly get to help this family in their trying time," said Trooper Jordan Hopkins.

The body will be sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy. The autopsy results should be released Friday with the cause and time of death.

We will update this story when we learn more." - https://www.wymt.com/content/news/Mi...513503761.html

29. MOULTRIE, Ga. — A 21-month-old child died Tuesday after being shut in an SUV at his parents’ house on Tommy Meredith Road. Damian Elias Leyva, son of Yaniel and Maria Linda Leyva, was pronounced dead at Colquitt Regional Medical Center’s emergency room. Colquitt county deputies responded to the emergency room about 8 p.m. Tuesday.

“Everything appears the child succumbed to heat exhaustion,” Sheriff’s investigator Austin Cannon said. Cannon said there was a 30- to 45-minute gap between the last time the parents saw Damian and when they found him inside the SUV. Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock said it appeared to have been a tragic accident, but he said tests are being conducted that will shed more light on the situation." - https://www.moultrieobserver.com/new...21c38df9e.html

28. CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Authorities have identified the 13-year-old girl who authorities say died after being deliberately left in a car in Colleton County. Officials with the Colleton County Coroner’s Office say Cristina Pangalangan died in Ruffin Monday afternoon.

The girl’s mother, Rita Pangalangan, and Larry King Jr., have been charged with her murder. A friend of Rita Pangalangan, who is a Colleton County teacher, said that’s not the woman she knows. Pangalangan and her boyfriend Larry King Jr. are both charged with murder.

No one was home Wednesday at the house on Lowcountry Highway in Ruffin where King lives. Sitting outside was the car Colleton County deputies say Rita Pangalangan‘s daughter was placed in and died in after being left in it for several hours on Monday.

“I was completely stunned, speechless, couldn’t believe it, just couldn’t believe it,” Rochelle Byrd said Wednesday. Byrd’s daughter was taught by Pangalangan, a former teacher of the year. Byrd hasn’t seen Pangalangan in several years.

“She was one of the best teacher’s I ever met,” Byrd said.”Honestly I don’t understand it. I don’t understand how any child can be supposedly left in a car, especially this child, the special needs that she had. That’s one of the first things you would think, she would get her child out of the car. It just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.”

She also can’t understand that investigators say the 13-year-old was deliberately left in the car. “I’m just stunned. I’m completely speechless," Byrd said."I don’t even know how to respond to that, knowing the person that I know her to be turned from that, being called a murderer is incredible."

The sheriff’s office says the investigation into the murder is ongoing. Byrd says she can’t get the 13-year old girl off her mind. “She’s back in the Lord’s hands,” Byrd said." Both Pangalangan and King have criminal pasts. King has prior arrests for domestic violence and assault and battery.

Court records also show an assault and harassment charge against him were dismissed. In January of this year, Pangalangan was arrested after being accused of stuffing candy bars in the gas tank of King’s truck. According to the incident report, the couple was not dating at the time. King told officers he was leaving a bar and saw chocolate and what appeared to be peanuts in and around the nozzle of the gas tank. He said it would cost between $500 and $600 to inspect and repair the damage. Rita Pangalangan is on paid leave from the Colleton County School District following her arrest for murder. - https://www.live5news.com/2019/08/07...eing-left-car/

27. "A toddler died Monday in Tierrasanta after the child was discovered inside a car, San Diego police said. The mother called police at 12:42 p.m. to report she had awakened from a nap and could not locate her 21-month-old child.
The mother then called the police back and said she had located the child inside a car. Officers arrived to the location on Leary Street where the toddler was pronounced dead just after 1 p.m.

Police did not say if the mother left the child in the car, or provide any other details as to how the child got inside the car.

The child's father identified her as Scarlett Grace Harris. San Diego Police Department Child Abuse Unit investigators took over the investigation Tuesday. Leary Street is located south of Tierrasanta Boulevard and west of Santo Road. The neighborhood is filled with housing used by U.S. personnel from local military bases.

"This is tough," one neighbor said. "It hits home. It could happen to any of us. I'm a mother, we go through a lot being military spouses, you know, with our significant others, just in life in general and this is just so unfortunate." - https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/loc...521323761.html

Also wondering what the full story is with the 13 year old.
Was she special needs? Why didn't she get out of the car?

Yes, "I don’t understand how any child can be supposedly left in a car, especially this child, the special needs that she had." It was a lot of text, I meant to bold that part. The time limit is hard with MS.

I just want their stories to be heard and read regularly in the hope more people will stop and think. This is the biggest daycare forum on the net, surely every parent out there has been here at least once.

31. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – The Knoxville Police Department and first responders are investigating the death of a young child after they were left in a car in a North Knoxville grocery store parking lot.

The circumstances surrounding the child’s death apart from reports of the child being found deceased in the car – were still in the preliminary investigation stages, according to KPD.

KPD did confirm the child to be “young.”

First responders were at the scene at a grocery store on a report of a child left in a car in the 5000 block of Clinton Highway Friday just after 3 p.m.

The child had reportedly been in the vehicle for an unknown amount of time, and resuscitation efforts were made.

Officials say the child died.

WATE 6 On Your Side observed the medical examiner arriving before 4 p.m. and a tarp being put over the vehicle in question. The majority of the parking lot was blocked off by authorities.

Details such as the child’s age, or the whereabouts of the child’s parents/guardians, were not yet available." - https://www.wate.com/news/child-dies...grocery-store/

32 8/11/2019 Lawrence, KS 89 DéVonté Lashawn Turner 2 yr

"Lawrence police have identified the child who was found dead inside a parked car Sunday afternoon as DéVonté Lashawn Turner.

Police Chief Gregory Burns Jr. at a news conference on Monday said the 2-year-old Lawrence boy at the time was in the care of family members who were not his parents, but Burns would not be more specific. He said a death investigation was underway and that it appears heat may have contributed to the boy’s death.

Burns said at this point in the investigation no arrests have been made. Burns described the child’s death as tragic; however, he reiterated that the police department still did not know the specific circumstances of the situation.

“As those involved attempt to heal from this loss, our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by this event,” Burns said. “Anytime we lose a citizen of our city it’s very tragic. This tragedy is only compounded when it involves a child.”

Burns said the event served as a reminder for people to take extra care when exiting their vehicles, especially this time of year when temperatures are high.

When asked how long DéVonté had been in the car and whether a cause of death had been determined, Burns said he did not have that information at this time. He said police would be investigating any and all factors as part of the death investigation.

Regarding who found the child and who alerted authorities, Capt. Adam Heffley, who is overseeing the investigation, said that information was known but was not being released to protect the integrity of the investigation.

“We do have that information but are not willing to give that out at this time,” Heffley said. “That is part of the investigation that will be looked at thoroughly, worked through and at the conclusion of this given to the proper charging authorities, if that is something that they wish to pursue.”

In response to additional questions from reporters, Sgt. Amy Rhoads said that no additional details or information about the investigation could be provided at this time but that if more information became available it would be communicated.

As the Journal-World previously reported, police responded to a residence in the 3300 block of Iowa Street after receiving a call that a 2-year-old had been left unattended in a parked car just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

On arrival, first responders determined that the child had died.

The only residentially zoned property in the 3300 block of Iowa Street is the Easy Living mobile home park at 3323 Iowa St., behind the movie theater and divided retail building that used to be J.C. Penney.

According to the National Weather Service in Topeka, the temperature in Lawrence reached a high of 88 degrees Sunday afternoon. An online calculator says that within 10 minutes in 88-degree heat, the interior of a car can reach 107 degrees."

"A two-year-old boy died after he was found critically ill inside a hot car.

Police were called after the toddler was spotted in an unattended parked car on Sunday afternoon.

Officers from the Lawrence Police Department in Kansas, smashed their way into the vehicle but the boy, identified as DéVonté Lashawn Turner, could not be saved.

It was not immediately clear how long the child had been left in the car." - https://indiatimespost.com/boy-2-die...-31c-heatwave/

I just still do NOT get it. It's become an epidemic. What is the answer to stop it from happening?

I brought my 2 dogs to run errands with me Saturday, the day started off nice and cool, high 60's; ran into 1 place for less than 2 minutes, when I checked the temperature back in my car, it had reached 70. I said 'that's it pups, bringing you home and finishing my errands'.
WHEN will a child be foremost on some people's minds; when will they become mindful of a little child who depends on them to protect them as if their life depended on it?? When will children, once again, become a parent's most important part of their life?
Parents forgetting their child in a car? Parents taking so many vacations without their child/red? Parents leaving their child in dc more than is necessary? Parents who cannot seem able to bring their child to the grocery anymore because they can't handle it? Parents who don't use child restraints, abuse their children, use drugs and leave their children in dangerous places while they enjoy their 'trip'.
When are parents going to realize what parenting truly involves? It means love your child, care for your child, giving up a big part of yourself for years while you protect/teach/be with your child. I'm not talking the occasional trip with SO to reconnect or putting your child with Bert and Ernie for 30 minutes so you can make dinner.
It's so sad that this speaks of such a MEMEME generation, cellphones are more important than children. A thousand things going through people's heads are more important. If life is truly that crazy for a parent, something needs to slow down. Make your life as a parent, about your child; that IS the definition of parenting. Otherwise, use birth control.

So it looks like car manufacturers are making changes. Someone in my community group posted a picture from her rental car that reminded her to look in the back seat when she got to her destination. Apparently the sensor goes off if the back door was opened prior to driving.

That's a start, a teeny tiny start. Maybe it should be mandatory for every single person with a child younger than 10 yo, to have a sensor installed. Usually when car manufacturers make changes, it's to new cars. Why not send letters to others, stating install a device or pay high fines.

33 8/16/2019 Lindenwold, NJ 88 Milliani Robertson-Lawrence 22 mo

34. "BOONEVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Police are investigating after a toddler was found dead in a hot car in northeast Mississippi.

Booneville Police Chief Michael Ramey said the 21-month-old boy was found dead around 5 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of Mighty Cubs Daycare. Police say it appears the child had been left in the car for several hours.

That daycare shares a parking lot with an adult day care, but police said neither business had anything to do with the child's death.

Ramey says the child appears to have been left in the vehicle at a workplace elsewhere in Booneville and wasn’t discovered until the vehicle arrived at the day care.

"It's definitely a tragedy for the family and friends of this young child. It's a tragedy for the whole community here," Booneville Police Chief Michael Ramey said. "That child was left in that vehicle for several hours, and one of the parents had went to the daycare to pick the child up that evening. That's when it was noticed the child was still in the vehicle."

No one has been charged, but Ramey says officers are gathering video and statements.

Ramey did not name the child, and he stressed that the daycare was in no way responsible for the infant's death.

The body was sent to Pearl for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Ramey said family members are still being interviewed and said the infant’s death is “devastating” to the community." - https://wreg.com/2019/08/20/toddler-...h-mississippi/

33. A 22-month-old girl died Friday afternoon after being left inside a hot car in New Jersey.

Milliani Robertson-Lawrence was found unresponsive inside the vehicle outside the PATCO High Speed Line in Lindenwold, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. The car's passenger window had been broken.

The girl's father, Nasir Lawrence, told KYW-TV he was devastated.

“Once I got the call, I thought it was a joke,” Lawrence said. “I pretty much broke down and lost my mind.”

Lawrence said that Milliani had been in the care of relatives while he was serving time in jail. He was trying to regain custody, he said.

“How do you forget that there’s a 2-year-old who makes a lot of noise in the car?” he asked. “... You killed my daughter. You took her from me.”

No charges have been filed and it's not clear how the girl ended up in the car or why the window was broken.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office at 856-676-8175 or email ccpotips@ccprosecutor.org.

The majority of hot car deaths are accidental, according to NoHeatStroke.org. On average, 38 children a year die from heatstroke sustained from being left inside a vehicle. Last year was the deadliest on record, with 52 children dying inside hot cars. " - https://www.insideedition.com/father...daughter-55344

They definitely aren’t as common but it does happen in the summer which is roughly 4 months of the year. We also have a very small population compared to the USA with many states being hot all year round. Here we still treat it as an accident for sure and most news reports are very empathetic towards the parents.

37. "Lexington police continue to investigate the death of the newborn boy, Valen Hakizimana found dead Thursday night after being left in a hot car for several hours.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the 2-month-old boy found dead after a family member unintentionally left the child in a car for several hours Thursday. The high temperature in Lexington on Thursday was 84 degrees.
Police arrived to the home on the 1800 block of Barksdale Drive, which is in the Winburn area off Russell Cave Road, around 7:30 p.m. Thursday after learning the newborn had died.

The coroner confirmed the cause of death was hyperthermia, that is exposure to high temperatures.

“This is one of those things that as a department we hate to investigate,” Sgt. Donnell Gordon said.

“We have to do our job, and for anyone involved — the detectives, officers on scene, firemen, emergency care guys — it’s one of those cases that stick with you for your entire career.”

Officials have not stated if there will be a criminal investigation at this point.
Police did not indicate which family member was caring for Valen at that time.

According to Kentucky law, a person may be charged with second-degree manslaughter if he or she wantonly causes the death of a child younger than 8 by leaving the child in a vehicle. Second-degree manslaughter is a Class C felony.

Valen is the second child to die in a hot car this year in Kentucky and the 38th to die nationally this year, according to KidsAndCars.org. Kentucky has had 27 child hot car deaths since 1993, which is the tenth-most in the country." - http://www.theglobaldispatch.com/ken...-in-a-hot-car/

36. "A 1-year-old boy died Thursday after being left in a hot car parked at a North Carolina shopping center, police told local media outlets.

The boy's mother works at the center in Pineville, police told WSOC-TV, and realized he was in the car as she finished her shift.

This is the 37th case of a child dying of heat exhaustion in ovenlike cars nationally this year, according to KidsAndCars.org, which tracks vehicular heatstroke deaths. The case brings the toll to one short of the annual average.

Police found the boy in his car seat around 5 p.m., WCCB-TV reported, after receiving a 911 call. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. It is unclear how long the baby was inside the car, police said, and the mother is cooperating in the ongoing investigation. " - https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...le/2158491001/

35. "BROWNSBURG, Ind. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of an Indiana toddler who died after she was mistakenly left in the car after her family returned home from church.

WRTV-TV reports that the Hendricks County coroner identified the 21-month-old girl as Marah Anne Crapo.

The county sheriff’s office says she died Sunday near Brownsburg, northwest of Indianapolis. Her parents and four siblings took naps after church. Family members mistakenly believed someone had removed the girl from her car seat and brought her into the house.

Efforts to revive the girl after two hours were unsuccessful.

The sheriff’s office says a criminal case from the “tragic loss” is unlikely." - https://wgem.com/2019/08/27/coroner-...g-left-in-car/

How do you not notice your child is not in your house????

I seriously can understand accidentally not dropping off at daycare when there is a change in routine but coming home from church and you don’t realize ONE OF YOUR KIDS IS MISSING??? Ridiculous. Who are these people?

The Knoxville death (#31) happened 5 minutes down the road from me at a store I shop at about once or twice a month.

I find it odd that we still have no more details other than the child's gender and age. It happened like a month ago and nothing. I know several of these stories had victims names, the adult's name and relation to the child, circumstances, etc out by that evening or the next day. Not with this one. The most recent story was 3 weeks ago! The news stories just say DCS is investigating but the family had no history with them.

A quick search of the local obits for a 6-month-old male infant who died that day would yield results. Unfortunately, my internet is too slow to proceed right now. I am sure it is due to extra resources devoted to the storm response. It tells me they have no intent to charge the parents.

The one in Santaquin, UT is being investigated as intentional. The baby was 6 months old (not sure why the list shows 2 months, unless this is a DIFFERENT case...I can't find any news about a 2 month old in Santaquin, though)

SANTAQUIN — Santaquin police have been investigating the death of a 2-month-old boy who investigators suspect was left in the back of a car for hours.

But why the baby was inside the vehicle that long was still being investigated Thursday. The boy’s mother, who Santaquin police say has given them inconsistent and false statements, is also under investigation.

As of Thursday, no one had been arrested and no charges in the case had been filed. But police say the case is still active as detectives continue to serve search warrants collecting evidence.

The investigation began Aug. 13 when officers were called to Mountain View Hospital in Payson.

“It was reported an infant had died at a storage unit in Santaquin,” a search warrant affidavit filed in 4th District Court states.

The boy had “hot red flushed skin” and a body temperature of 109.8 degrees, the warrant states. Doctors also noted that rigor mortis had already set in, according to the affidavit, which is something that happens a few hours after death.

”Prior to the emergency room calling, police and medical personnel had not received any emergency calls regarding this incident,” the warrant states.

As investigators were questioning the baby’s mother, they noted her “physical effect was unusual for a mother who just lost their infant child. She was calm and showing very little emotion. She was crying off and on struggling to provide tears and when asked a question she could stop crying instantly. (She) appeared to be overly concerned about self-preservation and me accusing her of something rather than being concerned about losing her child,” an officer wrote in the affidavit.

When asked to provide a timeline of the day, the mother “continually extended the time frames for each event and made it appear it took longer than expected to get to and from particular locations,” the warrant states.

For instance, she claimed it took 35 minutes to drive from Santaquin to the hospital on state Route 198 while driving in a “frantic rush.” But officers noted that even when driving the speed limit, that trip should only take 10 minutes.

Also neighbors who she claimed saw her with her child and a meeting she claimed to have at the storage unit in Santaquin turned out to be not true, according to the warrant.

“(Her) timeline was off and her story had large gaps of time that were unaccounted for. (She) proceeded to change her story a couple of times regarding the several hours leading up to her arrival at the hospital,” the warrant states.

The woman also claimed her cellphone was dead, which is why she didn’t call 911.

When the officer said he was going to seize her cellphone, the woman became defensive and “the phone was mysteriously lost,” according to the affidavit.

The next day, however, police say the woman gave them her phone as well as a different story about her whereabouts leading up to her arrival at the hospital.

“She claimed she went driving all around the south end of Utah County looking for her lost dog with her child in the car and lost track of time. She stated her child must have gotten too hot while in the car,” the warrant states.

Police say they believe the baby, Wade Ron Taylor, died from being in the back of the car too long, as the mother claims. But as of Thursday, the reasons for the child being in the car that long were unconfirmed. - https://www.ksl.com/article/46632909...eft-in-vehicle

I think that is bad reporting in the ksl.com article.

I do believe it is the same case, the dates/city/internal temperature lines up, but I think the age of the child is incorrect. If you search for his obituary, his photo is definitely that of a 6 month old vs. 2 month old.

Not that it changes the severity of the tragic event. It seems so suspicious though. I am interested to see how it pans out. I feel so sad about it

It is sad.

It is also sad that she is immediately charged with abandonment or abuse of a child resulting in death and the majority of the parents above that did the exact same thing were not charged at all.

"Investigators learned that the child was left in the care of 41-year-old, Tammie Brooks, of Hobbs, at approximately 6:30 AM on the morning of September 17. Brooks was supposed to drop the child off at daycare; however, drove to her place of employment instead. The child was left unattended in a car seat for several hours until Brooks realized the child was still in the car after running an errand. An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque, NM.

Tammie was charged with abandonment or abuse of a child resulting in death, a 1st degree felony, and is currently incarcerated in the Hobbs City Jail pending arraignment."

"SAN ANTONIO - A 3-year-old boy died Saturday after being left in a hot car in Texas, police said. A family came home from a T-ball game in the afternoon with their two sons and accidentally left one of the boys in the vehicle.

"One parent thought the other parent had grabbed both of the children, and, in fact, only the 6-year-old had been taken out of the car," Lt. Jesse Salame, of the San Antonio Police Department, told ABC News. "By the time they realized it, several hours had passed, and when they got the child out of the vehicle, he was not responsive.”

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

If confirmed by the medical examiner as a death related to being in a hot car, it would be the sixth child to die in that manner this year in Texas, according to Kids and Cars, a nonprofit group that brings awareness to safety issues surrounding children and vehicles.

Investigators called it a “terrible accident.”

“There's no way that this was anything more than just an accident," Salame told ABC News. "They were in a hurry or they got distracted, and that very literally could happen to anybody, and that's probably the most tragic thing of it all." - https://www.wsbtv.com/news/trending-...GpqN5AicjBg7B0

Every time I see these and see how MANY times we are warned about this, I get more and more suspicious these aren't 'accidents'. Sometimes, I feel it is negligence and sometimes, I feel it is purposeful. Ran a dc for over 11 yrs, never forgot a single kid. In fact, I would panick if say a Fri I had only 3 kids in care bc the other 3 had off, when doing head counts. In my mind I knew they had the day off but of course I knew I had 6 "enrolled" kids plus mine at the time. So, part time kids always threw me off but certainly, you CHECK! But no, these parents are consumed with everything else. Now, if a baby dies bc of a 'sensor failure' the manufacturer will be sued..mark my words. It isn't up to everyone else to do your job for you. Being a parent means SACRIFICE. Can't find a sitter? Take the kid WITH you to work that day. Or call your boss and be honest....maybe they'll have a hookup. If ur boss is a tool? Find other employment. Co parenting? Better get over yourselves and communicate. Have a sitter? You know dang well if you went to her house so that one 'i totally forgot that I had baby with me and forgot to.drop her off' sounds like bs to me. Out of routine? Then be extra cautious. I am sorry, but this seems MORE common with the warnings than it used to be in the past. I don't get it. These stories aren't enough to.shake up parents and make them think? No, ofc not bc they're SELF ABSORBED. No one 'forgets' they have a kid.

48. A 13-month-old baby is boy is dead after being left inside a locked car overnight Friday and into the afternoon hours on Saturday in north Alabama.

The boy’s mother, 36-year-old Elizabeth Anne Case, is charged with murder, according to Limestone County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Stephen Young. Case is being held without bond.

Deputies responded to the intersection of Highway 251 and Highway 31 Saturday afternoon where Athens Police and Athens Fire were on scene with a vehicle containing the child, his mother and grandmother.

Investigators determined, Young said, that the boy had been left inside a vehicle overnight Friday and well into Saturday on East Limestone Road, and that the mother and grandmother were attempting to transport the child to the hospital. The baby was transported to Athens-Limestone Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation showed that Case had left her residence on East Limestone Road between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. with her child buckled into a front-facing car seat and without strapping the seat to the vehicle. Case traveled to both Limestone and Madison counties where she was “dumpster diving” while the child was in the vehicle.

She returned home around 5:40 a.m. on Saturday and left the baby in the vehicle when she went inside the home and went to bed. Case awoke around 1:30 p.m. when the baby’s grandmother came to the residence to see him.

She woke Case up by banging on the door when she couldn’t find her grandchild. They searched for the baby and found him in the car, Young said.

Instead of seeking immediate medical help, Case took the child in the home and placed him in the shower. The grandmother called 911, loaded the child in the car with Case, and met Athens Police at the Recreation Center at Highway 251 and Highway 31. Investigators developed probable cause to arrest Case for murder and transported her to the Limestone County Jail.

Young said Case is a known drug user and was out of jail on bond for a first-degree robbery. - https://www.albugle.com/news/2019/10...harged-athens/

47. "Multiple parents are grieving the loss of four-month-old Samora Cousin. The infant girl died in the backseat of a van Tuesday afternoon, according to Phoenix police.

She was in the care of a foster parent who told officers he picked up the baby for an appointment and forgot to drop her off again before returning to work at the Washington Elementary School District Service Center, where he was a supervisor.

ABC15 has learned through law enforcement sources and those who know the foster family that the father is Roger Ham. Ham has not been arrested or charged with any crimes.

Ham and his partner received extensive media coverage over the past decade for their role in fostering and adopting more than a dozen children.

The same-sex couple was even featured on Good Morning America in 2011, where anchor George Stephanopoulos mentioned an award they received from Child Protective Services for all the work they had done to provide children in need a home.

Tragically, the family is now receiving media attention for the death of a baby in their care. The biological parents of Samora tell ABC15 they are devastated and angry at the loss of their child, who they were told was in safe hands.

"She was so amazing. She was such a little personality," said Jennifer Haley, Samora's biological mother.

May 21, 2019, was one of the best days of Wesley Cousin and Jennifer Haley’s life. "My first daughter. Words cannot explain just the first time I held her," said Wesley, Samora's biological father.

The couple's joy was cut short when the state took custody of their daughter just as they were preparing to leave the hospital. "They said that I was using drugs with her when I was pregnant," said Haley.

The parents would occasionally get to visit their baby. Haley told ABC15 she thought she would be holding Samora this morning.

"When I got there, the cops were there and I thought they were going to arrest me. But they said they were there because my daughter is dead," said Haley, choking back tears. Haley said she was notified roughly 18 hours after police and the state found out their baby passed away.

In a statement, the Department of Child Safety told ABC15:

"The Department mourns the tragic loss of this innocent child and we send our condolences and prayers to the child’s loved ones. We attempted to notify the parents as quickly as possible...Our first priority is to ensure the safety of any other children that might be living in the home of the foster placement. Our team worked this investigation with Phoenix Police Department well into the morning hours Wednesday."

The Ham family did not answer their door when ABC15 reached out to get their comments for this story.

A neighbor said he saw the family’s van return Wednesday afternoon. He noticed it Tuesday, on the news, surrounded by police cars.

The biological parents, Wesley and Haley, say they want to see the baby's foster father arrested. "If it was me, and I did something like that, I would’ve been booked hours ago," said Wesley.

The parents also say they plan to sue the Arizona Department of Child Safety.

Regardless of what happens next, four parents and many siblings will never be the same. More than that, one little girl has lost her chance of ever growing up.

"The first day of school, we don’t get that. First soccer game, we don’t get that," said Wesley. "Not even having the chance to at least call me dad."

Haley also told ABC15 that two of her sons were also foster children in the care of the Ham family.

DCS said they could not comment on how many kids, adopted or fostered, the Ham’s were caring for, or what may happen to them now. - https://www.abc15.com/news/region-ph...-dead-in-a-van

45 - 46. "Authorities have released the autopsy results of twin 3-year-old girls who were found dead inside a car in Hinesville Sunday afternoon.

According to Liberty County Coroner Reginald Pierce, Raelynn and Payton Keyes died of heatstroke. Their deaths have been ruled accidental.

Pierce said these are the preliminary autopsy results; a final report is pending.

Raelynn and Payton are the 45th and 46th children to die in hot cars this year.

According to the Hinesville Police Department, investigators are still working to establish a timeline of events on Sunday when the Keyes girls were found dead.

Hinesville PD says officers were called to a home on the 200 block of Augusta Way in the Griffin Park subdivision shortly after 1:30 p.m.

Earlier in the morning, a caregiver, now identified as a foster parent, could not locate the children inside the home after searching for them. The department said the foster parent searched the backyard and surrounding area in the neighborhood before returning to home to search again.

“It was during this second search that the children were found unresponsive inside a vehicle parked in the home’s backyard,” Hinesville PD stated.

Detectives told News 3 the foster parent then made the call to police.

“This is actually not the home of the caregiver or the children, this is someplace they come from time to time and do stay for extended periods of time and they were here visiting when this unfortunate tragedy took place,” Capt. Tracey Howard with the Hinesville Police Department added.

Authorities say the girls were staying with two caregivers and two of their other siblings. - https://www.wsav.com/news/local-news...nd-in-vehicle/

44. "Alabama investigators are looking into the hot car death of an 11-month-old boy after he and his twin sister were left for hours in a vehicle at a car dealership Friday, police said.

Emergency responders went to Sunny King Honda around 11:54 a.m. after receiving a 911 call of two infants inside a vehicle, Oxford Police Chief Bill Partridge said.

Their father, who works for the dealership, had taken the twins out of the backseat of his personal car by the time officers arrived, the chief said. The 11-month-olds were still in their car seats.

Both were transported to the Regional Medical Center emergency room, where the boy passed away. His twin sister is doing well, Partridge said.

Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown told CNN affiliate WIAT that the twins were in the car from about 8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. “All indications seem that this is a tragic accident,” Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown told the station. “No one can fathom the way this family feels, and I especially want to make sure that people are sympathetic to this family and that they get all the facts before they pass judgment.”

“The Sunny King Automotive Group family is hurting,” the dealership said in a statement, CNN affiliate WBRC reported. “We request your thoughts and prayers for our employee and his family and the Sunny King Automotive Group family.”

CNN has reached out to the coroner’s office.

The car dealership told CNN to call back on Monday when reached for comment. But in a brief statement provided to CNN affiliate WBRC, management said the dealership “family is hurting.”

“We request your thoughts and prayers for our employee and his family and the Sunny King Automotive Group family.”

“Keep the first responders and the families in your prayer and we are certainly continuing the investigation to find out what lead up to this occurrence,” Chief Partridge said.

43. "The mother of a Torrance 2-year-old who died after being left in a car has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said 34-year-old Lacey Mazzarella was arrested Wednesday in connection with her child’s death.

ADVERTISING

On Sept. 23, deputies were called to the 22400 block of South Vermont Avenue to find the girl, identified as June Love Agosto, unresponsive.

According to the Los Angeles county corner’s report, the child’s mother told deputies that she left her toddler in a car in a Torrance driveway at 11:30 p.m. Sept. 22 in her car seat covered by a blanket with the heater on and the windows rolled up. According to the report, Mazzarella went to drink with a friend in another car and fell asleep.

Almost six hours later, at about 5 a.m. Sept. 23, Mazzarella said she found her daughter covered in vomit, “really hot” and unresponsive. Mazzarella said she took her daughter out of the car and tried to hose her off in the yard to cool her down.

The 2-year-old was rushed to the hospital, where she later died.

Mazzarella was booked at the Carson Sheriff’s Station and is currently being held on $1 million bail.

The sheriff’s department said the case was still under investigation and would be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing considerations. https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2019...car-arrested/-

"According to WFLA, the 1 1/2-year-old girl's parents discovered the unresponsive child in their Jeep about 6:30 p.m. Monday and called police. Doctors at an area hospital later pronounced the girl dead, WFTS reported.

Investigators believe the girl's father forgot that she was in the vehicle Monday morning after he drove other family members to school and work, Tampa police spokesman Steve Hegarty told WFTS. He drove a different car to his own job and returned home that evening to find the girl inside the Jeep, authorities said." - https://www.wsbtv.com/news/trending-...HNLbvIt5NDbvzY

Here is the follow up for this case and what happened to the father

https://www.duluthnewstribune.com/ne...-Paul-ballpark

“No one can hate me more than I hate myself … I think about it everyday,” Kristopher Taylor said. “Every time I breathe. Every time I wake up … Yes, I think about him … Yes, I dream about him.”

The 26-year-old spoke during his sentencing hearing Friday, Oct. 11, on one count of second-degree manslaughter in the death of his little boy, who Taylor left inside a car for six hours parked in full sunlight outside CHS Field this past May as he worked a shift for a vendor.

Taylor even welcomed the notion of prison, Brown continued, adding that he wanted to do whatever he could to take responsibility for his actions.

But both sides agreed after Taylor entered a guilty plea in his case that prison wasn’t appropriate for him. Taylor doesn’t have a criminal record.

With that in mind, it was known heading into Friday’s hearing that Taylor would receive a stayed sentence for his conviction and instead be placed on probation for 10 years.

The only question was whether he would be ordered to serve either six months or a year in jail as well.

Ramsey County District Judge Robert Awsumb sentenced him to a year, but said half of it could be served on electronic home monitoring.

Awsumb also granted Brown’s request to stay the imposition of Taylor’s conviction, meaning the felony will become a misdemeanor if he successfully completes his 10-year probation period.

50. "LANCASTER, Texas - Lancaster police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old child over the weekend.

The boy was found unconscious inside of a car Sunday night. Police have not said whether or not it is a heat-related death, but they have classified the ongoing investigation as criminal.

The Lancaster Police Department is investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy who was found unconscious inside of a car on Birchwood Road.

Mary Walker was inside of her home Sunday night when she heard sirens from an ambulance. She looked outside to see first responders running towards the house next door.

“The guys ran back to the back to the garage and went inside and came out with a baby,” she recalled.

Lancaster police got the call around 8:50 p.m. Sunday. The unconscious toddler was transported to Methodist Charlton Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Walker says she doesn’t know the child’s parents but saw a woman outside of the garage who was visibility upset while talking to EMTs.

“I couldn’t hear exactly what they were saying,” she said. “But they were asking them if the baby had any allergies.”

Walker says she only knows one person who lives in the house next door, but she’s has seen children playing outside in the past.

The day before the child was found, Walker says she spotted a small toddler walking in the alley and guided him back to the home.

“When I seen the ambulance, I said ‘Oh I hope it wasn’t the same baby.’ I was concerned about him,” she said.

Lancaster police are working with the Dallas County DA’s office and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services on the ongoing investigation." - https://www.fox4news.com/news/lancas...nscious-in-car

51. "DESTREHAN, LA.– On October 4, 2019, just before 8:00 p.m., the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a
medical complaint at 494 Carolyn Drive in Destrehan, LA in reference to a child not breathing.

Deputies arrived on scene and located a two-year-old female, Avril Sanabria, lifeless inside the residence.

Investigators say the child was left in the custody and care of her aunt, Lezly Sanabria.

They went on to say that Lezly and Avril were shopping in Metairie along with Avril’s grandmother.

Upon returning home shortly after 1:30 p.m., the grandmother returned to her residence, while Lezly and another subject unloaded items from the vehicle.

After unloading the vehicle, Lezly and the other subject went inside Lezly’s residence, which is a separate home, but on the same property where the grandmother’s residence is located.

Lezly stated that she thought the child had gone with her grandmother not realizing that Avril was still inside of the vehicle buckled into her car seat.

After approximately six hours, Lezly returned to the vehicle and discovered Avril unconscious and not breathing inside of the car.

Temperature readings collected for St. Charles Parish in the Destrehan area through the National Weather Service during the incident timeframe showed temperatures reaching as high as 97 degrees with a heat index of 102 degrees outside of the vehicle.

Based on the investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Lezly Sanabria for Negligent Homicide.

On October 15, 2019, detectives made contact with Lezly Sanabria at her residence, where she was placed under arrest, transported to the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in Killona, LA where she was booked." - https://wgno.com/2019/10/16/arrest-m...-two-year-old/

"A baby boy found in a parked sport utility vehicle at a Walnut strip mall later died at a hospital Wednesday night. The coroner’s office identified the child as Kai Kayden Chen of Chino Hills. He was a year and six months old.

Sheriff’s officials didn’t say how long Kai had been in the car nor have they verified if was the father who found him. Deputies received a call at 5:45 p.m. of a 1-year-old not breathing on the 20700 block of Amar Road.

They saw the baby’s father doing CPR on the child inside a business, Sheriff’s Homicide Lt. Brandon Dean told NBC4. He said deputies took over until paramedics arrived.

Firefighters rushed Kai to a hospital where he died at 6:22 p.m. Deputies talked to the parents but made no arrests late Wednesday night.

On Thursday, there was a big yellow candle near the parking spot where the SUV had been the day before. A couple of store owners said the baby’s father is a dentist with an office at the same strip mall.

A sign at the dental office tells customers the office is closed Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays." - https://www.sgvtribune.com/2019/11/1...und-in-walnut/
