Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>OMG! I just ripped myself off 15$...grrr.
Soccermom 11:41 AM 11-01-2012
DCD just came to pick up DCG early and handed me my pay for the week. He gave me 100$ and I told him no, it is only 80$ this week and handed him back his 20$. Normally on fridays I have my book out on the counter but I didn't have it out today. As soon as he pulled out I looked and it was 95$ not 80$.
I am too embarassed to say anything now.
Should I just let it go? It feels really unprofessional to tell DCM that I messed up and she owes me another 15$ tomorrow.
Grr..

Yes, of course you should say something.

Just shoot him a quick text and say "Oops, sorry I mis-read the bill and you actually owe $95 not $80. Sorry for the miscommunication. You can
just drop the additional $15 off when you next drop off DCG. Thanks"

Don't just let it go. Mistakes happen. Keep it friendly and just let them know. No biggie.

I'm sure BlackCat's probably right, but I also would feel too embarrassed. I would probably not bring it up. But that's me, I would feel like it was my mistake.

I would also feel like it was my mistake, but mistakes happen. This is a great opportunity to show the parent that providers are human too.

Let's say the parent realizes the mistake themselves and then comes to the provider and says "How come you never said anything?"...I'd feel pretty silly saying, I was too embarrassed. Just say, I was caught off guard or wasn't thinking clearly...which OP said herself.

Really, it IS ok to be human.

precisely! It really isn't a big deal and it's happened to the best of us. Just fix it now.

I did this yesterday when a dcm was late (on HALLOWEEN) and my late fees are always paid the following day. She came today and said "Can I just throw that in with my check NEXT Friday" and I honestly thought she was due to pay me again this Friday. I sent her a text after I looked and let her know to please bring it at pickup and she said "Ok, no problem"

You're just as human as anyone else so mistakes will be made. Just admit your mistake, like an adult, and request the additional money like BlackCat said. No big deal!

I just did exactly this last week. Sent them a text and said, I just looked at your invoice when I went to record payment and it was off by $25.00. left a little lol at the end of the text..... and then said You can just drop it off on monday, have a great weekend!!!

everything worked out just fine...I emailed them the new invoice with the corrected mistake!!!

I ripped myself off $3 yesterday because i billed subsidy but marked yesterdays pick up time wrong and shorted myself 3/4 hour on 2 children. Now im happy it wasnt 15! You have every right to collect due money...getting the courage to do so is another story. I bet the parent already realizes a mistake has been made. Maybe they will approach you first.

Don't be embarassed! Like the PPs said, we all make mistakes. Just correct it and then let it go... but get your money back first
