Default Classic Children's Songs

I did a search on songs but couldn't find anything relating to this. Does anyone know of some good cd's that have all the classic kid's songs on them? I'm looking for the ones that are the sung the "old fashioned" way, if that makes any sense. Some of the songs that I have are sung by people with accents or the lyrics are a little bit off. (Like eensy-weensy spider instead of itsy-bitsy spider.)

I don't really have a preference if they are sung by children or adults. I just want something that is easy to listen to and not too annoying. lol.

I haven't listened to it yet but I got some cds that have kids songs at the $1 tree. they have about 30 songs each, I have one that is for preschoolers (ABCs), one for toddlers (nursery rhymes), and one that says 'silly songs' (im not sure what they have on there).

I just wanted to say that it's hard to pin-point the "original" version of songs ... it kind of depends on which version you are used to hearing from growing up. Itsy-bitsy vs. eensy-weensy is a good one ... I'm curious to see how many of us sing it which way.

When I was a kid we sang it 'itsy bitsy' but I notice now kids are being taught to sing it 'eensy-weensy' (I actually find it annoying). We did an experament in one of my CD classes and the teacher had us sing 'eensy weensy' instead of 'itsy bitsy' and less than 1/2 the class participated and most people admitted that the main reason was just that change in the words; some also didn't sing because they were taught to sing it in Spanish not in English.

Cedarmont Kids has good CDs if you are okay with Christian songs being in them.

Another good CD with nursery rhymes only:

I have two of those. Those are good as well. I have ripped all of the CD's into the children's computer and created playlists for certain times of the day (breakfast, center time, writing, lunch, rest time, wake up time, snack time, etc.). Rotating through A LOT of songs really helps. If you listen to the same CDs repeatedly you will go crazy.

I have lots of CDs from the $1 store. Most of theme are nature/classical/ cultural instumental songs/tunes. If figure I can use them to during arts and crafts or have a music time were they can create there own dance or even their own lyrics (older kids). I can also use it to teach about culture, instuments/sounds, when they are playing and even just to relax (lots of spa/ocean sounds)

I use a lot of the Wee Sing CDs. They are songs I learned when I was little. They also include fingerplays.

With that particular song it's not just the eensy-weensy that annoys me. Instead of the line "...and washed the spider out." it is "...and washed poor eensy out." and to top it off she's got some sort of British or English accent. (which is fine as long as it's not in my kid songs. lol)

I know that many of us have listened to some very different versions as children, especially growing up in different parts of the country, but this has been one of my big pet peeves since I've had children. I guess I just want them to learn the versions that I grew up with. Plus, it helps me to sing along with them. (It doesn't help my singing voice mind you. Just the actual words coming out of my mouth...)

I have those as well and I'll have to check but I think those also have some weird lyrics and/or strange arrangements. I haven't played them in a while and I think that's why. I should pull them out again though just for the fingerplays as those are all new to me. The only one I remember learning as a child was the itsy-bitsy spider so I've got a lot of catching up to do.
