Anyone make one homemade ornaments for their dcks? Last year we squirted paint inside glass ornamanent balls and they turned out beautifully. Looking for some other ideas for this year. Saw an idea in Family Fun for paper pulp ornaments. Any other tried and true ideas?

I've made these 2 felt ornaments. I've also made the second one in paper. It was gorgeous!

Here it is in paper. One year, I made a lot of them, in all sizes from very small to huge. Our entry hall is long and painted a stone gray color. They looked gorgeous scattered on the wall. Wouldn't stand up to kids though. ;-)

Here are some other cute felt ornaments.

This one is made with a wooden thread spool.

My nephew is in a center and they made some ornaments already. I am hoping they come up with a better Christmas craft idea for those kids before Christmas. My sister told me that her son came home with a little white styrofoam ball that had one piece of yarn glued to the top and a little bit of orange and green marker scribbles drawn on it. That's it.

Maybe it was the age or ability of the child. I let all the kids sit at the table when we do arts and crafts and some of the kids can make something great and others can only put a few scribbles on. It is not honest if a profider is doing the activity for the child or taking the the childs hand in there hand and doing it for them.

These are awesome ornaments. The smell lasts all season. It takes a while to dry, so start soon.

Make a bell. Styrofoam cup upside down. Punch a hole in the top with a pipe cleaner, run thru cup. Use part for handle on top (true bottom of the cup). Use part as a hook for a jingle bell on the bottom (true top of the cup).

Can be covered to start with foil, or colored with crayons, markers or paint.

I agree - sometimes the children (especially little boys) aren't into the craft very much and that's all you get. I think it's more important to put the date on the ornament so you can see how they progress through the years.

(And then there are others that will use the whole bowl full of decorations with 1/2 a bottle of glue and it takes a week to dry!)

Last yr for the little ones under 1 yrs we made ornaments. I bout the glass kind from michael's and had each child use one hand print painted and then printed onto the glass. The paint was red or green and it had glitter already in the paint. Then on the other side I painted there name on it with the yr. Then tied a little bow on the top. Then I got really cute decorative box's to put each one in. The parents loved it!!

Do you have a picture to show? I have some little ones I need an idea for. What paint did you use? Did you use a paint pen for writing? Do you use baby wipes to remove paint from hands? Did you do both hands or just one? Did you put any paint inside the ornament so it wasn't clear?

Last year we made Christmas balls with hand prints as well, I did the hand print in white and when they dried I used colorful sharpie markers to decorate the fingers like little snowmen with hard, scarfs, carrot noses, black buttons- there was a poem to for it - it was a huge hit

I make these every year. It's a good one for practicing fine motor skills as well.

Every few years I help the kids make an ornaments with their handprint - I paint their hand white and they put it on an ornament(usually red) Then I turn their hand into 5 snowman - put button dots for buttons and a hat on the head - One year I did a santa hat, another year I did a top hat - Really cute.

over the weekend one of my dcp posted a pic of the family decorating their tree and saw the ornament on it So glad they kept it

besides the hand and foot print ideas.....any other ideas for the wee littles? I feel like I go over board with the hand and foot print crafts, would like to try something else. It's hard when they are under two

The kids and I are going to make Cinnamon Applesauce ornaments. You roll the dough out, use cookie cutters then bake them like cookies. We'll use gingerbread men/lady shaped cutters and each child will make one man/lady for every member of their immediate family. The next day the kids can decorate their family of ornaments using buttons, sequins, pompoms, glitter, etc.

This will be our parent gift this year.

I just did these two days ago, but never read we were suppose to bake them? I read it takes 2-3 days to air dry. My kitchen still smells nice! I'm just going to hang mine with ribbon, not decorate them. They're only about 3 inches big.

Doesn't the cinnamon cost a small fortune? I've looked at these several times but never went ahead with them. They look yummy and I can imagine the smell...it was just the cost for me. Although I was always thinking of doing them as a craft not a gift.

I can get a pretty fair size size jar (2.3 oz) at WM or Dollar General for 50¢.

This site has some really cool and fun homemade ornaments: http://familyfun.go.com/christmas/ch...erland-671482/

Alot of them seem to only require the minimum materials and seem fairly simple to make.

We have a store here called the Bulk Barn. You can get thousands of food items in bulk, you scoop it out, including cinnamon. It's never been so expensive that I've hesitated using it for a craft.
