In the middle of my first "bad check" experience. What a hassle. These were just kids I took on for summer. They couldn't leave soon enough. The older kids didn't listen, and mom didn't adhere to all the policies she signed in the contract...having them here later then she said, not making payments up front and here schedule was not what she said and the days they were here were random. Anyways is was cash coming in for the summer and although she paid me Friday's after, even when I reminded her she did always lay me so I just let it go. Anyways, I kept her kids 3 days and she wrote me a check on Friday. Deposited it on monday. She then brought her kids two days the next week and brought me a check on Wednesday and said it would be their last day as school starts next week..it was sooner than planned and she shorted me $50 but I didn't care I was ok with her them leaving. Thursday I get a notice that she put a freeze on the check I had deposited and I'm just waiting to see if the check deposited on Wednesday is the same. Of course I made several attempts to contact her to no avail. So frustrating, but I will take the steps to get the money she owes me. Has anyone else ever been in this boat? What a mess. Totally threw off my budget.

Oh that sucks. That's not just a bad check- if she put a stop on it she's trying to cheat you out of $$$. I agree- go balls to the wall to get your money. Make sure you talk to the bank. This situation is something they run across often I'm sure.

Good luck

Call the police. If she out a stop payment on money she owed you it's a crime, a pretty serious one at that.

Well I finally got through to her today after 4 failed attempts over Friday and Saturday. This time I told her that she needed to bring the cash by a set time (original amount I told her which included the fee I was charged by my bank) and if she did not I was taking legal action. I also told her if I do not get the money by Monday that I'm adding a $25 service charge. That got her attention. She replied that "I don't have the money so do what you have to do. I can have the money by Friday" she also said she did not freeze the check, but that is what the legal check returned to me says. Dcm says the bank did because she did not have the funds. Anyways I told her that I was a reasonable person and if she knew it was an issue she could have talked to me and we could have worked something out other than this taking me by surprise, and her ignoring me until I mention legal action. Anyways I told her Friday was fine but because it is after Monday I told her she needed to include the $25 as this has been a huge inconvenience and by that point the payment will be three weeks late. She responded that she will bring the original amount on Friday. I told her that that was not ok she needed to include the fee. So we will see, in all my years of daycare I have never dealt with a piece like her. Wish me luck

I'm surprised you trusted her after that.

If this was me I'd have called the police and started legal proceedings already.

I hope she follows through, regardless.

There is no way I would give her to Friday. She is already thumbing her nose at your authority by stopping payment on the check AND flat out telling you she won't be paying the service fee. Send her a registered letter today. In Ohio a bad check can be collected on for up to three times the face value of the check. She is trying to steal from you-and I wouldn't LET her do it!

Well she didn't show at the time for today, I don't mind giving her until Friday. She's a single mom, I get that and if she were to talk to me I would have tried helping her out with a payment arrangement or something. It's her attitude about it that gets me. I'm wondering I'm thinking I should go ahead and send the certifed letter today. From what I'm reading online she then will have 10 days upon receipt of the letter to make that payment and so she knows I'm serious. I've only had one bad check before, and the dad apologized profusely and brought me cash the very next day. This is all new to me after 8 years of having my own daycare. Pretty lucky so far.

I have never heard of a bank putting a freeze on a check. My bank runs the checks through twice before it is declared a bounced check. It usually takes 3 weeks before I know its bounced. I think most banks do that. She is pulling your leg. I hope she comes through.
