One of my DCP's jokingly said to me the other day that their spouse doesn't think I feed their child enough. Wow. I didn't take it as a joke. I was told the child is starving when said child gets home. This child over eats at my home. I feed 2 snacks and lunch every day. I have weighed the child and said child is off the charts for weight. Dad is also considered morbidly obese. How would you handle? I can only shake my head because I'm shocked.

Do you ever log what the child eats? If not, perhaps start sending home a little note each day so the parents are aware. I have many kids here who go home hungry (since at that point it has been 2 hours since their last snack).

I have our menu posted and I am on the food program. If you are as well, then you might send home some info. on food serving sizes for that age.

My response to this is really simple:

By the time kids go home, they are all starving! They want dinner. The snack they have at 3pm isn't a meal, it's only intended to tie them over until dinner.

"Well sounds to me, DCD like it's time to raise my rates to cover the costs of feeding your child."

You are so right it's a snack and not a meal! 😃 I also read somewhere that huge explosive poopy diapers can be a sign of over eating. Those happen daily and sometimes twice a day.

I feed breakfast, lunch, am snack and pm snack. I even give a snack to a little girl who comes to pick up her sisters with dad after school. And I still have kids tell their parents sometimes they are hungry. My cousins child goes to a video monitored daycare that they pay double my rates for. She is in care there from am till 7:30 at night, they dont provide breakfast and only one meal and one snack in that length of care. It blows my mind. I think these parents just like to nit pick. I had one say the other day that even in a real daycare she figured this or that would go on. I'm thinking real? Lady I assure you I am real. I think they just talk out their wazzoos sometimes. To bad we cant charge a quarter for every stupid cromment they made. We would be rich ha ha.

Yeah I think comments like that are meant to be funny, but the DCPs don't realize how personally we take it because there are things that we take seriously. We start to analyze the comment, dissect it's origin and meaning and by the end we don't know what to think!? I have never had anyone complain about that here, if anything it's the opposite saying the child eats more here than at home. I had a DCD tell me how DCG just grazes all day and may have a hard time sitting in a high chair since they just feed her at the coffee table from the sofa at home. These parents aren't obese or anything, if anything I think they don't feed DCG enough and that she needs more nutrition. They don't give her cow's milk at home and she's pretty picky. I don't think she gets enough healthy fats in her diet. I know she will tell me she's all done but when I offer her another bite of something she hasn't finished or even touched she will eat it and finish the rest of the plate.

Anyway, I would perhaps document what you feed DCK for the week or even just a few days and say that you're feeding more than enough food. You also don't feed them after Xpm to avoid filling them up before dinner. You want them to have a healthy appetite at dinner time!

And put a side-by-side comparison of the requirements from the Food Program
I know my dcks eat much more than the minimum requirements and some still go home saying they're hungry. I think these kids just have a fast metabolism. They're very active and slender, and none have put on weight, even eating 2-3 times the minimum requirement.

Wow, I have never had a parent say that to me, if anything that child lives on carbs at home. I would just make sure he gets plenty of protein and call it good! Doesn't it kinda make you wonder what he eats at home? I give Breakfast, Lunch and pm snack. My parents are thankful for the snack but I real call it a "tide me over"! How hold is the kid? I would tell dad it really is just a snack not a meal. Good luck with this!
I will be for you.

I have said the exact same thing. And when my dc kids as for seconds on snack my standard answer is "it's a snack, not a meal!" Now they remind each other
