What do you guys do with a kiddo that is just so incredibly loud All. The. Time. What makes it even worse is he’s first here every morning and right at opening. I’ve barely had any coffee!
He’s 5 years old and I really don’t feel like it’s a hearing problem he’s just really, really excited about life! His voice is really high pitched too so it’s kind of squeaky/shreiky...I feel bad because I ask him to lower his volume about 300 times a day!

I have color coded charts that tell my kids what voice level we are at. Level 0 (purple)is no talking at all while level 5 (red) is shouting and should never be used inside the classroom. Most of the time we are at a level 2 (green) inside voice. I have a child who tends to be very loud as well. When he starts to get loud I simply remind him we are at green and point to the green sign on the wall.

Did you make it yourself or buy it somewhere?

I have two boys that think that yelling is normal talking. But both of them come from families where they are the youngest of 4-6 kids and live in loud, constant chaos.. I think they have just learned that in their houses...you need to be loud to be heard! They are having to learn the opposite here.

I made it myself using poster board and construction paper.
Level 0 (purple) No talking
Level 1 (blue) Whispering/Spy voice
Level 2 (green) Inside/Quiet voice
Level 3 (yellow) Teacher voice
Level 4 (orange) Outside voice
Level 5 (red) Shouting
I also made smaller sign for each level and I hang these on the wall depending on what level we are at— usually a 2. Occasionally we are at a 3 if we are playing a game or singing songs or a 1 if we are walking in the hall. We are at a 0 during nap/quiet time.
