Default Are You Open On The 4th?

After reading how parents are asking for care on the 4th of July and then with the food program calling and seeing if we are open, it made me curious how many are open on the 4th.

Ugh why didn't I take it paid and closed! Feeling very unpatriotic now especially since hubby is in the military. Oh well we will still make the base festivities and fireworks and get to bbq!

I'm actually closed but not paid which is fine with me. I feel holidays are for familys to do things together and not have to worry about being responsible for other little ones if you are trying to do family things.

I want my kids to remember that I did set time apart for them. Also, I do need to take some time off and if it should be anytime, I think absoulutly it should be holidays.

Closed and paid here as well. I do wish the 4th had landed on a Friday though. Oh well. We're still going to the lake this weekend.

I'm closed the 4th and 5th both Paid. I always take both days as paid holidays. I know my own family and all the daycare families will be out late with fireworks and I don't want a house full of crabby kids on Thursday.

Looking foward to my two days off. I haven't been off since Christmas.

I'm open as you seen from my other post...I just got off from a weeks vacation so it was VERY nice, but still disappointed in myself for saying I am open because now my older kids are complaining that we can't do anything as a family on a Holiday day where all kinds of events are going on. Next year will be different!

I should have added into my post that I'm closed for the rest of the week after today. My last pick up should be at 5:15, I'm counting down, yay vacation time!

Off 4th and 5th. Paid both days. I don't want my Holiday ruined by havnig to come home early and/or clean up for daycare kids the next day. Plus who wants to deal with grumpy kids all day the next day?

I am off for the whole week.

It is my summer holiday/vacation! I have been taking the 4t off since the first year I was opened.

If the 4th falls on a week day, I take that week off and if it falls on the weekend, I take the up coming week off!

My time to spend on my houseboat....relaxing in the summer sun NOT thinking about anything but my tan!

Of course, due to the horrid weather we had come through here last night.......we aren't heading out until tomorrow morning.

I was suppose to be off today. I can't remember if I put it with pay or not. But, when my husband had surgery last month, I took off 3 days, and they never blinked an eye. One parent has to work the 4th, so I offered to keep her little one. We are going to my husband's annual family reunion, but this dcg is like part of the family, so we didn't think twice about taking her. Mom's on board with it, so it was all ok.

Then, early this morning, my step-father died. We weren't close, so I'm sad, but not devastated. But, my sister was close to him, and I feel like I need to support her. So, we are making an appearance at the reunion, then after lunch, we will drive further north to spend a little time with my sister.

If I had known this was going to happen, I wouldn't have offered to keep her, but it's too late for her to make other arrangements. She was too good to me during my husband's surgery, and I won't do that to her.

I take it off but no biggie as the clients have it off as well. No pay though, I don't get paid for any days I take off.

Hope everyone has a fun safe 4th celebration!

I have it listed as an unpaid holiday, but have told my parents I would work if they needed me for extra pay, probably a dollar and hour more. Nobody needed me. I figured they wouldn't, or at most only one or two and I could take them wherever we wanted to go.

Wow! you OWN a houseboat?? I used to be such a fan of the "Tammy" movies and I've always wanted to take a houseboat vacation. Unfortunately, on the Mississippi they are quite expensive and you have to spend hours VERY frequently going through locks to go anywhere. :P I'd love to stow away as well!!!

I was open, but all 5 kids parents kept them home, so I get paid because they CHOSE to keep them. It's not in my handbook or contract anything about holidays, so it's their choice and I don't mind if they did decide to come.

I was lucky though, all the families kept them home for Memorial day and for the 4th so far, and no one even tried to get it free they all paid me in full without me saying a word.

paid holiday and off. If it would have landed on a tuesday or thursday I would have been off Monday and Friday paid as well.

Most parents are paid, those that are not can plan for it well in advanced time. My paid holidays are in my handbook. Very few perks and paid holidays and vacations help make me be a better provider.

My hub was paid, but still had to work---- ugh

How weird it was to have a day off in the middle of the week- refreshing I might add.

It is a paid Holiday for me. If I was open, I would have parents bring their children all day, opening time to closing time, while they both sit at home.

When you redo your policies make sure you add the following line after you list your paid days off: "If any holiday should fall on a weekend day the daycare will be closed either Friday or Monday."

I feel that the parents all get their holidays off paid and we should too!
