I have a 3 year old that will literally eat one noodle at a time. Or one macaroni at a time. Or one corn at at time. You get the idea. If its snack then the same thing. Today one of the kids brought animal crackers for his birthday so everyone could have one at lunch and literally one small bit (basically a crumb size) and now she is staring at everyone eat and I feel like I am every 5 seconds telling her to focus and eat! Its under my skin and today I got so frustrated that I told her she was done and tossed her cookie. Then she cried. I feel horriable that I let it get to me but I am at my wits ends. I tried the timer thing and it didn't help at all. she still just stared at people instead of eating or still just picked basically. I even had mom bring lunches. Is there anything else I can do?

I set the timer at lunch time.

When the timer goes off, lunch is over.

Whether they are finished or not.

Part of my role is to prepare the kids for school and in school, lunch has a specific time frame in which it is served and eaten....so we practice the same guidelines here.

Does not take them long to figure it out.

I set my timer for 40 minutes. MORE than enough time.

I have a lollygagger, too. He is nearly 4 now. I am teaching him to scoop up more than 1 "whatever" onto his spoon because that is what big kids do. I feel your pain....

My 5yo granddaughter is like that. I don't set a timer for the whole meal, but when everyone else is done and I'm done tidying up the kitchen I give her a 2 minute warning and set the timer. Usually by this time she's down to sipping he milk. Then I go on with story while she's washing her hands and going potty. If she complains I tell her she should've eaten faster.

I've had this before. I usually tell the kid that if he isn't gonna eat his food i will
in a joking way though. it's always worked on different kids.

This is me! It's not that I'm not paying attention to eating I just take small bites and eat slowly. I remember my parents and my teachers trying to get me to eat faster-nothing worked. I also eat much less than most people (although you can't tell by looking at me lol) I"m the big joke in my family and group of friends
I agree that a time limit is fine. Once lunch/snack time is over take away take away the plate. She won't starve!
