I'm registered but just logged out.

How much is too much? I know that some surveyors try to find any citation they can just so they can mark it. However, what about the providers who have common sense violations of the regulations or are just blatantly ignoring the regulations?

I'm just in such a state of dismay today. We have a relatively new online system, which shows the compliance history of providers. I checked out one provider today, and I am appalled.

This provider had tons and tons of violations. Some included: having a horror movie playing, having cigarettes and lighters accessible, medications and cleaning supplies accessible, no outlet covers, trash sitting out, food on floor not put away, no fire extinguisher, and a consultation on the provider's tone of voice with her children. There were more than that, and the state gives you 5 business days to correct any violations.

The state went back a few weeks later, and the findings show pretty much the same violations other than the provider didn't have trash and food out. Plus, more violations than at the first visit.

The online system shows that they gave her another temporary license. When should the state just close the daycare? She has a complaint listed on the online system too, but it doesn't explain why. We have a checklist that shows every area the surveyors are looking for, so it's not hard to know what the regulations are.

The president of our daycare association has TWO for corporal punishment. I have NO idea how that works.

I have had this conversation with our licensor's. At least here it is very difficult to just shut someone down unless it is something serious like a child getting seriously injured. There are many hoops to jump through as far as the number of regulations, the types of regulations, and the frequency of the violations. Once a provider is shut down it stays on their state licensing record and they can NEVER open another program.

People seem to get shut down all the time here. However, they just open back up in someone elses home until they get caught again. It's ridiculous.
